A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • EverydayMeds is a UK pharmacy; for NZ prices, funding rules and availability, use an NZ-registered prescriber.
  • Headline monthly figures for weight loss drugs usually leave out consultations, follow-ups and the higher doses most people step up to.
  • UK comparison: Mounjaro pens run from £169.99 (2.5mg) to £329.99 (15mg) per month at standard prices.
  • Low-cost supplements sold as 'natural Ozempic' carry no clinical oversight and are not equivalent to prescription treatment.
In this guide

What decides the cost of weight loss drugs in NZ

Three things decide the real cost of a weight loss drug anywhere: which medicine, which dose, and for how long. The first month is rarely the number that matters, because most injectable treatments step up in strength over several months.

02 · UK worked example

UK Mounjaro costs, for comparison

In the UK, the Mounjaro pen is priced per four-week pen, and the price rises with the dose. At standard prices the 2.5mg starter pen costs £169.99, 5mg costs £218.99, 7.5mg costs £279.99, 10mg costs £290.99, 12.5mg costs £319.99 and 15mg costs £329.99. All six doses are in stock.

A new customer's first order is £40 off at any dose with code FIRST40. Your first 2.5mg pen therefore costs £129.99 (standard price £169.99). If you are switching to us at 15mg, your first order is £289.99. After that, every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25).

Planning periodWhat it coversStandard-price cost
First year, settling at 5mg52 weeks, 13 pens£2,711.88
First year, settling at 15mg52 weeks, 13 pens£3,599.88
Settling at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mgMonthly pen price£279.99, £290.99 or £319.99 per month

These totals are before discounts: a new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less. The consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees. That is the kind of all-in clarity to ask any provider for.

Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens (all doses) are £143.96 and £339.00, checked 12 October 2026. For the same dose, the gap between providers ranges from £27 to £41. Comparing like for like matters a great deal, which is why our lowest cost weight loss drugs guide compares by dose.

03 · Checklist

How to compare any weight loss drug quote

Compare quotes by the cost of the whole course, not the first month. Ask every provider the same six questions and write down the answers.

  • Which dose does the quoted price cover, and what do later doses cost?
  • Is the consultation included, or charged separately?
  • Are follow-up reviews and dose changes included?
  • Are needles and a sharps bin supplied?
  • Is delivery included, and is it temperature-controlled?
  • Can you verify the pharmacy on a professional regulator's register?

Our own monthly cost of weight loss drugs page and the guide to the hidden cost of weight loss drugs walk through these extras in more detail, and the NZ medication cost guide covers the same ground from an NZ angle.

04 · Funded versus private

Are there funded weight loss drugs in NZ?

Check current NZ public funding rules with your NZ doctor or pharmacist rather than relying on a general web summary.

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

The lesson applies anywhere: when public funding is narrow, the private cost becomes the real question. That is why total-course planning matters more than a single monthly number. Our guide to prescription weight loss drugs explains how prescribing works when you are paying privately.

05 · Who is eligible

Who qualifies for a weight loss injection?

Eligibility is set by the product licence and your prescriber, and NZ rules may differ from UK ones, so ask an NZ prescriber. As a reference point, the UK licence for Mounjaro covers adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1

It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.11

Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes — it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. The licensed weight-management options are Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg). Whichever brand is discussed, a prescriber decides suitability, not a web page.

06 · Injections compared

Weight loss injections: how the main options differ

The main injectable options differ in active ingredient, dosing rhythm and how many steps you take to reach a maintenance dose. Prices follow those differences, so knowing them helps you read a quote.

  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide): a once-weekly pen in six strengths, 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 It activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1.
  • Wegovy (semaglutide): once weekly, with pens of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg. It steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18
  • Liraglutide (Saxenda and similar products): supplied at 6mg per millilitre and given as a daily injection, unlike the once-weekly options.

In SURMOUNT-1, a trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks. The comparison group lost 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages, individual results vary, and treatment works alongside diet and activity, not instead of them.

See our weight loss injection cost guide and the GLP-1 cost guide for how injection pricing is usually structured.

07 · Pills and supplements

Weight loss pills, tablets and over-the-counter products

Prescription weight loss tablets exist; ask an NZ prescriber about their availability and cost in New Zealand. In the UK, tablet options include Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron), each described in its own product information.2021 See current Wegovy tablet prices on our weight loss treatments page.

There is no honest way to rank over-the-counter weight loss pills. Products sold without a prescription are low-cost, have no clinical oversight and vary in quality, and their dosing is not standardised. Labels such as 'nature's Ozempic' describe marketing, not an equivalent medicine, and dramatic weight-loss claims on them should be treated with suspicion.

If you are tempted by a very cheap product, ask whether anyone has checked it is safe for you alongside your current medicines. A prescriber review is the thing a supplement cannot offer.

08 · Hidden costs

The costs people forget to budget for

The costs most often missed are the higher doses, the length of treatment and the follow-up. A quote for a starter dose is not a quote for the dose you may end up on.

Budget for these:

  • Dose increases. In the UK, each step up in Mounjaro strength raises the pen price, so a first-month price understates later months.
  • Duration. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.1 Planning an exit is part of planning cost.
  • Consultations and reviews. Some providers charge separately; ours are free and the price shown is the price paid.
  • Supplies. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every EverydayMeds order.

09 · Avoiding fake pens

Cheap offers and counterfeit pens

The cheapest offer is the riskiest place to look, because falsified pens are sold on price. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.7

Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the regulator's register, such as the GPhC register in the UK, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.12

A genuine UK pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution is clear and colourless. Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, or has been above 30°C or out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If anything seems wrong, contact the pharmacy before injecting.13

10 · If you are in the UK

If you are in the UK: how ordering works

If you live in the UK and want to compare, ordering takes three steps. We supply Mounjaro direct through official LillyDirect supply, so pens are genuine KwikPens, and all six doses (2.5–15mg) are stocked.

  • Free consultation. Complete a short health questionnaire online, with no charge and no obligation, via our free consultation.
  • Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery. Same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Ongoing monthly reviews are included, repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping or subscription lock-in. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options. Our discount code guide explains the current new-customer and reorder discounts.

If you are in New Zealand, we cannot supply you. Please speak to an NZ-registered prescriber and an NZ-registered pharmacy instead.

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What is the cheapest weight loss drug in NZ?
The lowest sticker price is not always the lowest cost: doses step up, and consultations and follow-ups may be extra. Very cheap supplements have no clinical oversight and are not equivalent to prescription treatment. Ask an NZ-registered prescriber to price the whole course.
Who qualifies for Ozempic in NZ?
Ask an NZ-registered doctor about the criteria that apply in New Zealand. Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes — it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. As a UK reference, Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition, alongside diet and activity.
Can I get weight loss pills in NZ?
Prescription tablets exist in the UK, such as Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, and a prescriber decides suitability. Over-the-counter products are low-cost with no clinical oversight and non-standardised dosing, and they are not the same as prescription medicines. Ask an NZ prescriber or pharmacist what is available locally.
Are there any funded weight loss drugs in NZ?
Check current NZ funding with your NZ doctor or pharmacist. In the UK, Mounjaro is on the NHS but access is phased over several years, starting with the highest-need groups from June 2025. Funding rules can change, so always check current criteria.
Will Wegovy get cheaper in NZ?
Ask an NZ pharmacy about current Wegovy pricing in New Zealand. Cost depends on dose too: Wegovy steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17, so the first pen is not your long-term price. Ask an NZ pharmacy for a price at maintenance dose, not just the starter.
What are the alternatives to Ozempic available in New Zealand?
Licensed alternatives in the UK include once-weekly Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide), and daily liraglutide products at 6mg per millilitre. All need a prescriber's assessment. Ask an NZ-registered prescriber which are available and suitable for you.
How can I lose weight safely in New Zealand?
There is no safe shortcut we can endorse. Licensed medicines work alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them, and trial results are averages that vary individually. Be wary of dramatic weight-loss claims. An NZ-registered doctor can assess whether medication is suitable for you.
Which over-the-counter weight loss pill works best?
No over-the-counter pill can be ranked as better than another. They are low-cost, offer no clinical oversight and have non-standardised dosing. Marketing like 'nature's Ozempic' is not an equivalent to a prescription medicine. A pharmacist or prescriber can advise on safety, particularly alongside other medicines you take.
