Telehealth vs In-Person GLP-1 Care in the UK (October 2026)

Neither route is automatically better: both can be safe if a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews you and follows you up. The NHS route is phased in over several years, while a regulated online pharmacy offers faster access and home delivery. Mounjaro starts at £169.99 for a 2.5mg pen (standard price); the first order is £40 less with code FIRST40. Prices checked 11 October 2026.

GLP-1 treatment is a long-term commitment, so the question is less 'online or in person?' and more 'who reviews me, how often, and what happens when something goes wrong?'

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Telehealth suits people who want speed, flexibility and home delivery; in-person care suits those who want physical examinations or have complex conditions.
  • The quality of care depends on the prescriber's review and follow-up, not on whether the consultation is in a clinic or on a screen.
  • NHS access to Mounjaro is being phased in over several years, starting with the highest-need groups.
  • Check the pharmacy's GPhC registration and that a prescriber reviews every order before you pay.
  • Ongoing monthly reviews matter more than the first consultation, because doses are adjusted over time.

01 · The short verdict

Which route suits whom

Choose telehealth if you meet the licensed criteria, want to start without waiting, and are comfortable managing a weekly injection at home. Choose in-person care if you have several health conditions, want a face-to-face examination, or are eligible for the NHS pathway and prefer to wait for it.

The NHS route is real but phased. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions). Full rollout is expected to take years.46 That is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment. See our guide to Mounjaro in primary care for more.

Follow-upVaries by provider; ask what is includedVaries; NHS weight-management services may be structured

The medicine itself is identical in both routes. In SURMOUNT-1 (2,539 adults), people on tirzepatide with diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Trial averages do not predict your own result, and individual results vary.2

03 · How to decide

Decision factors that actually matter

Start with eligibility and safety, then convenience. A good provider of either kind will ask about your medical history, current medicines and goals, and will decline if treatment is unsuitable.

  • Prescriber review: every order should be reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not an automated score.
  • Ongoing review: look for monthly check-ins, dose titration and side-effect support.
  • Regulation: verify the pharmacy on the GPhC register.
  • Genuine supply: ask where the pens come from.
  • Total cost: compare the pen price, any fees and whether there is a subscription.

04 · What good telehealth looks like

What good telehealth looks like

Good telehealth is a regulated pharmacy with a real prescriber behind it. At EverydayMeds the free online consultation is a short health questionnaire with no obligation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Orders are dispensed by our registered pharmacy (GPhC 9012878).12 Same-day dispatch applies when ordered by 3pm, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, with genuine KwikPens and all six doses in stock.

Warning signs include anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, or selling unlicensed products. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme.7

05 · Where in-person care wins

Where in-person care wins

In-person care is stronger when you need physical examination, blood tests or coordination between several specialists. If you have complex conditions, your GP knows your full record and can weigh the treatment against everything else you take.

Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems, and either route should work through your full medical history and medicine list with you.113 Some GPs are cautious about prescribing because NHS access is phased and criteria are strict; that is a commissioning reality rather than a verdict on the medicine.

The weakness of in-person care is access: appointments, waiting and local variation. Our guide to financing weight loss injections covers payment options if cost is the barrier.

06 · Cost and payment

Cost and payment compared

Across the UK pharmacies we track, a Mounjaro pen costs between £143.96 and £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider (checked 10 October 2026). The gap between providers for the same dose ranges from £27 to £41.

At standard prices, a first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order £25 less. We accept Visa, Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options, with no subscription.

07 · Which medicine to ask about

Which medicine to ask about

The licensed weight-management injections are Mounjaro (tirzepatide) and Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg). Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, so private prescribing for weight loss is off-label, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for that purpose.

In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg.15 In STEP 1, adults on Wegovy lost on average 14.9% over 68 weeks versus 2.4% on placebo.9 Both are licensed treatments; the choice depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone. See the Wegovy pen for the alternative.

Switching between them is prescriber-led: there is no licensed direct conversion, and two GLP-1 medicines must never run together.

08 · Cheaper alternatives and shortcuts

Cheaper alternatives and shortcuts

There is no tablet form of Mounjaro. Two GLP-1 tablets are now licensed in the UK: Wegovy tablets (approved by the MHRA in June 2026) and Foundayo (approved in August 2026). They are different medicines with their own eligibility checks, so ask a prescriber whether they suit you.

Orlistat blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses. 'Natural GLP-1' supplements such as berberine are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence; they are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight.

Unlicensed 'research' peptides, compounded copies and stacking have no safety data and no regulated supply chain. Anything promising faster results outside a licensed pathway is the warning sign.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is it better to get GLP-1 from a doctor or online?
Neither is inherently better. What matters is that a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your history, the medicine is genuine and licensed, and someone follows up your dose and side effects. An in-person doctor can examine you; a regulated online pharmacy is faster and more convenient. Pick whichever offers proper review and ongoing support.
Which GLP-1 telehealth is best?
No single provider is best for everyone, but you can judge any of them. Check the GPhC registration, confirm a prescriber reviews each order, ask where the pens are sourced, and see whether monthly reviews are included. Compare the total cost, not just the headline price. Our telehealth guide explains what to look for.
How to choose a GLP-1 provider?
Verify the pharmacy on the GPhC register, check that a registered prescriber reviews every order, and avoid anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. Ask about aftercare, dose titration and genuine supply. Compare the pen price plus any fees, and check there is no subscription lock-in.
Do doctors suggest GLP-1?
Yes, where you meet the criteria. NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Access is phased over several years, so your GP may be unable to prescribe yet.
Why don't doctors like to prescribe GLP-1?
A practical reason is that NHS access is phased, with strict criteria and the highest-need groups first, so many GPs cannot offer it yet. Treatment also needs monitoring alongside diet and activity changes. If your GP can't prescribe, ask about the NHS pathway or regulated private options.
What is known as the "poor man's Ozempic"?
Berberine is often given that nickname, but it is a supplement, not a medicine. It is not regulated for weight loss and has no comparable trial evidence to licensed GLP-1 treatments. It is available cheaply without assessment, so it carries no clinical oversight. Speak to a prescriber about licensed options instead.
How can I mimic Ozempic naturally?
There is no proven natural equivalent. 'Natural GLP-1' supplements are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence. Licensed treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and those lifestyle changes are the evidence-based foundation. A prescriber can discuss licensed options if you are eligible.
What is a cheaper alternative to Ozempic?
Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, so for weight loss the licensed options are Mounjaro and Wegovy. Other licensed choices include orlistat, Saxenda and the newly licensed Wegovy and Foundayo tablets. Compare current Mounjaro prices and ask a prescriber which suits you.
