A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • "Rowe GLP1" is a surname plus a drug class, not a treatment. It usually refers to investment notes, professional profiles and overseas guides.
  • EverydayMeds is a GPhC-registered UK pharmacy (9012878) and is not affiliated with any investment firm, coach or clinician named Rowe.
  • GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only in the UK and are used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.
  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates both GIP and GLP-1 receptors, so it is described as dual-acting rather than a pure GLP-1 medicine.
  • Digestive side effects are the most common. Severe, persistent stomach pain, upper right abdominal pain with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction need immediate medical help.

01 · The short answer

What does "rowe glp1" actually mean?

The phrase combines a surname and a drug class. Nothing sold or prescribed carries the name. Material using it falls into a few groups, and knowing which group you want saves time.

Some are investment commentary. Asset managers have published views on how GLP-1 receptor agonists could affect food and drink, insurance, medical technology and surgery. That is market analysis about industries, not health advice for individuals. Others are professional profiles, where a clinician or coach with that surname writes about supporting people on GLP-1 treatment, often with a focus on muscle, nutrition or women's health. A further group are overseas guides to weight-loss drugs that do not describe how the UK system works.

We are none of these. We are a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (registration 9012878), and we write about the medicines, not the markets.

02 · Your decision

Is GLP-1 treatment relevant to you?

It may be if you are an adult considering medically supported weight management. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 It is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary.

NHS access exists but is phased. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions). Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.46

If you want to see what private treatment looks like, the Mounjaro pen page has the free consultation. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and all six doses are in stock.

03 · What GLP-1 means

What GLP-1 medicines are

GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone that helps regulate appetite and blood sugar. Medicines that copy its action are called GLP-1 receptor agonists.

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Other medicines in the wider family include semaglutide, sold as Wegovy for weight management, which is a once-weekly injection with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg. Liraglutide, sold as Saxenda, is a daily injection supplied at 6mg/ml. Your prescriber decides which medicine suits you.

04 · Is tirzepatide GLP-1?

Is Mounjaro a GLP-1 medicine?

Mounjaro acts on GLP-1 receptors, but it also acts on a second hormone receptor. Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1

In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1

So when a headline says "GLP-1 drugs", it may be describing the whole class loosely. The exact medicine matters for dosing, side effects and what a prescriber can advise.

05 · What trials show

What the main Mounjaro trial reported

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

Trial averages do not predict your own result. Your prescriber will talk through realistic expectations and review how you respond over time.

06 · Side effects and safety

Side effects and when to seek help

Most side effects are digestive and settle with time. Like all medicines, Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive. The most common — affecting more than 1 in 10 people — are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Common effects (up to 1 in 10) include indigestion, reduced appetite, dizziness, reflux, burping, hair shedding and injection-site reactions. Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts.13

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.13

For any new symptom that continues, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist, and you can report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

07 · Contraception and storage

Contraception and storing the pen

If you use the contraceptive pill, Mounjaro matters for you. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. This applies to the pill only — implants, coils and injections are unaffected.17

Storage is straightforward. Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use — useful for short trips — and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light.1

08 · Judging GLP-1 sources

How to judge what you read about GLP-1

Check who is writing and why. An investment note is written for investors and describes sectors, not patients. A clinician's profile reflects one person's practice. Neither replaces a consultation with a prescriber who has your health history.

Look for the regulator. A UK pharmacy should appear on the GPhC register, and ours does under 9012878. Be wary of anyone offering to supply a prescription medicine without a consultation or prescription. Counterfeit and unregulated products are a real risk, and the MHRA publishes alerts about them.7

Watch for dramatic weight-loss claims and for anything that promises specific results. Real trial figures always name the trial and say that individual results vary.

Be careful with supplements marketed as natural alternatives. They are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and dosing is not standardised. Our page on berberine with GLP-1 explains why you should speak to a pharmacist or prescriber before combining anything with a prescription medicine.

Is EverydayMeds connected to anyone called Rowe?
No. EverydayMeds is a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (registration 9012878). We are not affiliated with any investment firm, clinician or coach who uses the name Rowe, and we cannot speak for their views or services. Our information covers licensed UK medicines and how to access them.
Is Mounjaro a GLP-1 medicine?

Can I get a GLP-1 medicine on the NHS?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Ask your GP about your position.

Does Mounjaro affect the contraceptive pill?
It can. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which may reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method, for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Implants, coils and injections are unaffected.
How do I start treatment with a UK pharmacy?
Complete a free online consultation, which a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Approved orders are dispensed by our registered pharmacy, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery.
Should I rely on investment commentary for health decisions?
No. Investment commentary analyses industries and companies, not individual patients. For health decisions, use the UK product information and speak to a prescriber who can review your history.
