01 · NHS route

How to get Mounjaro from your GP on the NHS

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6

In practice, book a routine appointment, ask for a weight and health review, and ask whether you fall into the group currently being offered treatment. Your GP can tell you where your practice is in the rollout. Our guides on whether a GP can prescribe Mounjaro and the NHS prescription process go into more detail.

If you are not yet in an eligible group, your GP will not be refusing you personally; the rollout is simply staged. Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.6

02 · Private route

Getting a prescription privately without your GP

You do not need a GP prescription to buy Mounjaro, but you do need a prescription. It is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.1 You cannot buy it without a consultation, and we would be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.

Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens are £143.96 and £319.99 per month (checked 25 October 2026).

03 · Ordering

How ordering works

Start with the free consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge and no obligation. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Our registered pharmacy dispenses, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging.

04 · Who qualifies

Eligibility: NHS versus licensed use

The licence is wider than current NHS access. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

NHS criteria are narrower: NICE recommends a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, with the rollout beginning at BMI 40+ and four or more qualifying conditions.46

Whichever route you use, a prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable. See also how a Mounjaro prescription works.

05 · What to expect

What the medicine does and what trials show

Mounjaro is tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection in a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 It activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, helping regulate appetite and slow stomach emptying, so most people feel fuller sooner.1

In SURMOUNT-1, 2,539 adults on tirzepatide with diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. These are trial averages; individual results vary.

06 · Planning costs

Planning the cost privately

The first four pens (2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg) total £879.96 at standard prices. A first year costs £2,399.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,279.88 at 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less. You can pay by card, Klarna or pay-monthly options, with no subscription.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
