If you have seen talk of a Mounjaro price drop and want to know whether it is real, here is the simple answer: Mounjaro prices in the UK have not generally fallen at the manufacturer level. Following price increases in 2025, private market prices have largely stabilised. For UK adults considering or already using Mounjaro, this distinction matters if you want to understand current prices, possible savings and safe access without being misled by headline offers.

That does not mean you cannot find a better price. It simply means it is worth checking what an advertised "price drop" actually refers to. This guide explains current Mounjaro pricing, why prices changed, where "price drop" claims can be misleading, how to spot genuine savings, how the dose affects cost and why unlicensed products should be avoided.

The Honest Answer on Mounjaro Price Drops

In September 2025, Eli Lilly increased its UK list prices for Mounjaro. Mounjaro was initially introduced at lower UK list prices, and the later increase brought UK pricing closer to prices in some European and international markets. This is the wholesale price that private pharmacies pay, and many providers passed at least part of the increase on to customers. As a result, private prices went up rather than down.

Since then, private market prices have largely stabilised, but this does not mean the earlier increase has been reversed.

Changes in drug pricing can be affected by factors such as negotiations, competition and commercial decisions. However, that does not mean a reduction at one pharmacy represents a reduction in the underlying price of Mounjaro.

If you are hoping the underlying price of Mounjaro has come down, it has not generally done so. What you may see instead are pharmacies competing on price, keeping their prices unchanged or reducing their own margins to make treatment more affordable. These are pharmacy level pricing decisions rather than a reduction in the manufacturer's price.

What "Price Drops" You Might Actually See

When a website advertises a Mounjaro "price drop", it can mean a few different things. It is worth checking which one applies:

  • A first order discount. Many pharmacies offer money off your first order. This is usually a one off saving rather than a permanent price reduction. Later pens may be charged at the standard price.
  • A pharmacy reducing its own price. Some providers may lower their prices to remain competitive or run promotional offers. This can reduce the amount you pay, but the offer may change or end at any time.
  • A comparison with an older price. An offer shown as reduced "from" a previous figure may be comparing the current price with an older, higher price. This can make a standard promotion look like a larger price drop than it actually is.

None of these necessarily means that the manufacturer has lowered the price of Mounjaro. They are usually pharmacy level pricing decisions. There is no reliable way to predict future pricing, so it is better to check the current price rather than rely on a "price drop" headline.

Will Mounjaro Prices Come Down in Future?

It is difficult to predict how Mounjaro prices will change in the future. Tirzepatide is still protected by patents, so there is currently no generic version of Mounjaro available in the UK to create the same type of price competition that can occur with some older medicines.

Future pricing could be affected by factors such as competition, patent protection, commercial decisions and other medicines becoming available. Alternative treatments, including medicines such as Wegovy, may also influence how providers set their prices and may be suitable alternatives for some people following a clinical assessment.

For now, practical ways to manage the cost include comparing pharmacies carefully and checking whether you may qualify for NHS treatment. NHS access is separate from private treatment and depends on the relevant eligibility criteria and local arrangements.

If you are considering changing treatment because of cost, speak to your prescriber. They can discuss whether another treatment may be appropriate for you rather than making the decision based on price alone.

What Mounjaro Actually Costs Now

Mounjaro is priced per pen, with one KwikPen containing 4 weekly doses. The price generally increases with the strength. The table below shows standard reference prices across the range.

StrengthStandard reference price
2.5mg£174.99
5mg£204.99
7.5mg£254.99
10mg£274.99
12.5mg£304.99
15mg£323.99

In the private market, Mounjaro prices can vary between providers and strengths. Some lower priced 2.5mg offers may be available from around £120, depending on the provider and any promotion.

These are reference prices, so the amount you pay today may be different. Always check the live price before ordering rather than relying on an older quoted figure.

Prices can vary between UK pharmacies. Your overall cost may also be affected by consultation fees, delivery charges or other costs. Looking at the total price can give you a more useful comparison than the advertised pen price alone.

Is There a 40mg Mounjaro Pen?

No. This is worth clarifying because "40mg pen" is a common search term. Mounjaro doses are 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg, given once weekly. There is no 40mg Mounjaro dose.

The "40mg" figure usually refers to the total amount of tirzepatide contained in a 10mg KwikPen. A KwikPen provides 4 weekly doses, so a 10mg pen contains 40mg of tirzepatide in total across those 4 doses. It does not mean that you take a 40mg dose at once.

If you see "40mg" tirzepatide being offered as a vial or another product that does not match the licensed Mounjaro presentation, be cautious. Do not assume that it is an approved Mounjaro product. Check the product and supplier carefully before using it.

How to Genuinely Pay Less, Safely

If the underlying medicine price has not fallen, the practical ways to reduce what you pay are to compare providers carefully and use legitimate offers where available. For some people, discussing other treatment options with a clinician may also be appropriate.

  • Compare pharmacies using the total cost at the dose you are prescribed, rather than looking only at a headline "from" price or first order discount. If you are considering another treatment, discuss the available options with your prescriber, including whether a different starting dose or treatment may be suitable.
  • Factor in the extras: Check delivery costs, whether the clinical assessment is included and whether you need to pay for any consumables.
  • Use a first order discount if offered: This can reduce the cost of your first order, but check what you will pay for later orders.
  • Check whether you may be eligible for NHS treatment under current criteria and local arrangements: NHS access is limited and depends on eligibility, but it may be an option for people who qualify.
  • Be cautious about unusually low prices: A price that looks too good to be true can be a warning sign, particularly when the seller is not a regulated pharmacy or does not carry out an appropriate clinical assessment.
  • Get professional advice before switching treatment: If cost is making you consider a different medicine, speak to a qualified healthcare professional. They can help you understand whether another treatment is appropriate and how any change should be managed.

Beware Misleading "Price Drop" Claims

A little caution can help when comparing Mounjaro prices. A "price drop" that is actually a first order discount or a comparison with an older price is not the same as the medicine becoming cheaper.

A price that is much lower than the usual market range should also be treated carefully. It could be a genuine promotion, but it may also indicate an unlicensed or counterfeit product if the seller is not properly regulated.

Before ordering, check that the pharmacy is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and look at the total cost, including delivery and any assessment charges. It is also worth checking the product details, prescription requirements and what is included with your order.

The lowest advertised price is not necessarily the best value. A clear price from a regulated pharmacy, with appropriate clinical assessment and supply, can give you a better basis for comparing Mounjaro providers.
