Is Mounjaro on the stock market, or is it the pens that are in demand?

Mounjaro is not listed on any stock market, because a medicine brand is a product and not a company. Eli Lilly, the manufacturer, is the business whose shares investors trade. Buying shares gives you a stake in the company; it does not give you access to the medicine, and ordering the medicine does not give you any stake in the company.

Headlines about Eli Lilly's results tend to describe demand for the medicine across many countries. They do not tell you whether you are suitable for treatment, what dose you would start on, or whether you can get a pen this week. Those depend on a consultation and on a pharmacy's own supply.

For UK patients, the most direct link between corporate news and daily life has been pricing. Eli Lilly announced a UK list-price increase for Mounjaro on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025. Pharmacy sell prices vary, so we show ours live rather than quoting a list price.

Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens (any dose) were £143.96 and £319.99 per month when checked on 24 October 2026. The gap between providers for the same dose ranged from £20 to £36.03.

04 · What Mounjaro is

What Mounjaro actually is

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.¹ It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen, called a KwikPen, in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.¹

A brand name is a label for a product. It is not a company, it has no share price of its own, and it cannot be bought or sold on an exchange. What investors trade is ownership of the manufacturer, which also sells many other products. The two things are connected commercially, but they are separate, and nothing about owning one gives you the other.

The medicine itself is prescription-only. It is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary.

Because the name is also widely discussed in business news, it is easy to forget that the product is a clinical treatment with a licence, eligibility rules and a dosing ladder. Starting treatment is a medical decision made with a prescriber who looks at your BMI, medical history and current medicines. It is not a consumer purchase you can make because the company is in the news.

One practical note on naming: you may see 'tirzepatide' and 'Mounjaro' used interchangeably. They refer to the same active medicine. The brand name belongs to Eli Lilly, and the pens we supply are the genuine branded KwikPens sourced through LillyDirect.

05 · Why we do not cover shares

Why we do not give share advice

We do not tell you whether to buy, hold or sell Eli Lilly shares, and we do not forecast what the company will be worth in future. We are a pharmacy, and giving investment views would be outside our expertise and our regulatory role.

Several questions come up repeatedly around this topic: why the share price moves, how much the company might be worth in 2030, which GLP-1 shares are a good buy, which shares might rise next, and how much you would need to invest to earn a given monthly income. Each of those has a different answer on different days, and each depends on your own finances, tax position and appetite for risk. A pharmacy page that gave a confident answer would be guessing, and a wrong guess costs real money.

First, share prices rise and fall, and any figure printed in an article is out of date quickly. Second, company results reflect worldwide sales across many countries, not the UK experience of one patient. Third, a share price tells you nothing about whether a medicine is right for you, how it works, or what it would cost you to start.

If you are weighing an investment, a regulated financial adviser, the company's own published reports and your broker's research are the right starting points. If you are weighing a treatment, a prescriber is. We would rather point you to the correct professional than offer a view that sounds authoritative and is not.

The same caution applies to the phrase 'which stocks will skyrocket'. No one can reliably say. Be wary of any page that names specific shares as certain winners, whether it is about this sector or any other, because outcomes in markets are uncertain and past performance does not predict the future. The most useful thing to do with a hot tip is to check who is giving it, whether they are authorised to advise, and what they gain if you act on it.

06 · Pen availability

Are Mounjaro pens available to order?

All six Mounjaro doses, from 2.5mg to 15mg, are currently in stock with us.

Availability is what most patients mean when they ask whether Mounjaro is 'out of stock'. It depends on the pharmacy, because each one buys and holds its own supply. 07 · How it works and results

How tirzepatide works and what trials found

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.¹ In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

This dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic). Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.

The headline trial is SURMOUNT-1, which included 2,539 adults. People taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.² These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.²

To make a percentage tangible: for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. That is straight arithmetic on the trial average, not a prediction for any one person, and trial averages do not predict your own result.

Why does the clinical picture matter if you follow the stock market? Because investor coverage tends to describe the medicine through sales figures and headlines. Patients deciding about treatment need the clinical picture: what the medicine does in the body, what the trial measured and over how long, and the fact that results differ person to person. Sales growth is a statement about the company's revenue. It says nothing about whether treatment will work for you.

A prescriber will discuss realistic expectations, side effects and the dose pathway with you. Finding a dose that suits you is a process guided by the prescribing team rather than a fixed schedule applied to everyone.

08 · Who can use it

Who is Mounjaro licensed for?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.¹ It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.

A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you. That assessment is the reason the medicine is prescription-only. The review is carried out by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script, and if an order turns out to be unsuitable, it is refunded automatically.

Eligibility is the point where the stock market framing falls away completely. Whether a company is performing well has no bearing on whether you meet the licence. Equally, strong public interest in the medicine does not change the criteria. They are set out in the product information and applied individually.

If that is you, a useful first step is to work out your BMI and list any weight-related conditions and current medicines, then complete the consultation honestly. Giving accurate information lets the prescriber make a sound decision.

Interactions and personal circumstances matter. Medicines you already take, other conditions and plans such as pregnancy all feed into the prescriber's decision. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. The prescriber, and the patient leaflet supplied with the pen, are the right sources for individual safety questions, and any new symptom should be raised with the prescriber.

You can also report a suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.¹⁹ Reporting helps regulators monitor medicines, and it is open to patients as well as healthcare professionals.

09 · NHS and private

NHS access versus private treatment

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.⁴ The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40 or above with four or more qualifying conditions.⁶

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. The NHS has its own guide to the medicine, which sets out what it is used for and how it is taken.⁵ Your GP can tell you where you sit in the local rollout.

NHS prescriptions in England carry the standard prescription charge of £9.90 per item where applicable, though exemptions exist, and your GP or pharmacist can confirm whether you are exempt. Private treatment is paid for directly. With us, the price per pen depends on the dose, the new-customer discount applies to your first order at any dose, and a reorder discount applies to every later order.

It is worth noting how the NHS and private routes differ in practice, rather than treating one as better. The NHS route follows national criteria and local capacity, so timing depends on where you live and how your circumstances are categorised. A private route follows the product licence, so people who fall within the licensed criteria but outside the current NHS priority groups can be considered by a prescriber now.

Both routes involve clinical oversight. Neither is a way of 'buying Mounjaro' in the sense that you might buy a share. In each case a clinician decides whether the medicine is appropriate, you are expected to pair it with a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and ongoing review matters. Government and regulator guidance can change as the rollout proceeds, so rely on the NHS pages and your GP for the current position in your area rather than on a figure in a news item about the company.

10 · Costs over a year

What a year of treatment costs

Planning a year of Mounjaro means adding up pens, because each pen lasts four weeks. All figures here are at standard prices before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £879.96 at standard prices. After that, your cost depends on the dose you settle on, which your prescriber decides with you.

A first year (13 pens) costs £2,399.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,279.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. For other maintenance doses, think in monthly terms: 7.5mg is £244.99 per month, 10mg is £274.99 and 12.5mg is £289.99.

Compare that kind of planning with investing: a pen cost is a known, repeating expense, whereas a share price is uncertain. If you are treating the medicine as a household budget item, plan for the full course rather than only the first pen, and ask the prescriber how long treatment is expected to continue for you.

It also helps to compare like for like. A low headline price on a starter pen says little about what you will pay for the dose you end up on, so look at the whole pathway.

11 · Buying safely

How to buy Mounjaro safely in the UK

Buy Mounjaro only from a pharmacy that is registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council and that requires a consultation reviewed by a prescriber. You can check any pharmacy on the GPhC public register.¹² Ours is registration 9012878.

High public attention on a medicine attracts sellers who are not what they seem. A seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign, because Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. The MHRA publishes guidance and counterfeit medicine alerts, and it runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting suspected side effects.⁷

Some practical checks. Confirm the pharmacy appears on the GPhC register and that the registration number matches the business. Look for a clear consultation step before payment. Be cautious about social media offers, unusually low prices that cannot be explained, and sellers who promise specific results. 12 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.¹
