A generic is a copy of the same medicine. For tirzepatide none is licensed here, so the real choice is between Mounjaro and different licensed treatments.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • No generic tirzepatide is licensed in the UK, so genuine Mounjaro comes only from a regulated pharmacy.
  • Wegovy (semaglutide 2.4mg) is a licensed injectable alternative and acts on one receptor, GLP-1.
  • Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed, but they are different medicines from Mounjaro.
  • Compounded copies, research peptides and berberine supplements are not equivalents.
  • A GPhC-registered prescriber can advise which licensed option suits you.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Which alternative suits whom

If you want the same active ingredient, the only option is genuine Mounjaro, supplied under prescription. The sensible comparison is with Wegovy, which is also a licensed weight-management treatment. Both are effective; your health profile and prescriber advice decide which suits you.15

You can see current doses on the Mounjaro pen page, where all six doses are in stock. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). Compare with the Wegovy pen, whose first pen costs £99.99.

02 · Deciding

Decision factors

In the first large head-to-head trial (SURMOUNT-5), adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy).15 Frequency matters too: Mounjaro and Wegovy are once weekly, while liraglutide is daily. Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

03 · Why no generic exists

Why there is no generic Mounjaro

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly, and licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes. It comes in six KwikPen strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 For more, see the generic name explained and tirzepatide generic cost.

04 · Dual action

What makes tirzepatide different

Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which helps regulate appetite and slows stomach emptying. This distinguishes it from single-action semaglutide.1 That is why other GLP-1 medicines are alternatives, not copies. Browse a good alternative.

05 · Ozempic and tablets

Ozempic, tablets and supplements

Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, not weight loss, so a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss. There is no Mounjaro tablet. Wegovy tablets were approved by the MHRA in June 2026 and Foundayo in August 2026; both are prescription-only.2021 See all weight loss treatments.

06 · Copies and stacking

Compounded copies and stacking

Mounjaro must not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed research peptides such as retatrutide, or compounded copies. These have no safety data and no regulated supply chain. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign. Report suspect products via the Yellow Card scheme.7 Our Mounjaro is supplied through official LillyDirect supply. How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is there a generic Mounjaro in the UK?
No generic tirzepatide is licensed in the UK. Mounjaro is the brand for tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly. Products described as generic or compounded copies are outside a regulated supply chain and have no safety data, so they should be avoided.
Which is better, Wegovy or Mounjaro?
Both are effective, licensed treatments. In the head-to-head SURMOUNT-5 trial, tirzepatide averaged 20.2% weight loss over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on Wegovy. Which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice.
How to mimic Ozempic?
There is no safe way to mimic it. Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes, and supplements marketed as natural GLP-1 products are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence. A prescriber can discuss licensed options instead.
Is Ozempic better than Mounjaro for weight loss?
Ozempic is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and using it for weight loss is off-label. The licensed options are Mounjaro and Wegovy, so the real comparison is Mounjaro versus Wegovy, using the SURMOUNT-5 evidence.
Can you regain weight after stopping Mounjaro?
Yes, it is possible. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Tirzepatide takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear after a final dose. Stopping should always be planned with your prescriber, with diet and activity habits ready to carry the load.
What should I avoid while taking Mounjaro?
Avoid combining it with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed research peptides or compounded copies, as these have no safety data. Tell your prescriber about all medicines you take, including insulin, as doses may need adjusting. If you take the contraceptive pill, Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well it is absorbed: switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
Can I switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro?
There is no licensed direct conversion. Switching is done under prescriber supervision: the previous medicine is stopped, a washout interval is observed, and Mounjaro starts at a dose your prescriber judges appropriate, often 2.5mg. Never run two GLP-1 medicines together.
