Mounjaro Buy Now Pay Later: What It Costs and What Changed in 2026

  • Buy now, pay later became FCA-regulated on 15 July 2026, so newer agreements carry protections older ones did not.
  • Paying in instalments changes when you pay, not what treatment costs.
  • The price rises as the dose steps up, so instalment plans can overlap if you are not budgeting for the whole year.
  • Credit approval and clinical approval are separate. Being accepted for finance does not mean you will be prescribed treatment.

Buying Mounjaro using buy now pay later may be possible through some UK pharmacies. However, since 15 July 2026, certain buy now pay later arrangements have been subject to tighter rules. Mounjaro is still a Prescription Only Medicine and requires approval from a UK registered prescriber before it can be supplied.

For UK adults considering Mounjaro for weight management, the cost can be significant and ongoing. Spreading payments may seem helpful, but it is important to look at the total cost rather than only the monthly payment. Dose changes, repeat prescriptions and how long you continue treatment can all affect what you pay.

This page explains what buy now pay later means under the 2026 regulatory changes, what Mounjaro may cost over time, how financing prescription medicine differs from an ordinary retail purchase, and what to consider before choosing an instalment option.

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide and is a Prescription Only Medicine. Your payment method does not affect whether treatment is clinically suitable for you.

Key things to know

  • Buy now pay later, known in law as deferred payment credit, came under Financial Conduct Authority regulation on 15 July 2026.
  • Agreements entered into before that date may remain outside the new rules, so the protections that apply can depend on when you entered the agreement.
  • Deferred payment credit generally refers to interest free credit that is repaid in 12 or fewer instalments within 12 months. Credit that charges interest is a different type of product and may have different rules.
  • Instalments do not reduce the overall cost of treatment. They simply spread the payments over time.
  • Mounjaro doses may be increased over time under prescriber guidance, so the price of your starting pen may not be the same as the price of later pens.
  • A credit assessment and a clinical assessment are separate. Passing one does not mean that you will pass the other.

Can You Buy Mounjaro on Buy Now Pay Later in the UK?

Some UK pharmacies may offer instalment payment options at checkout. However, availability depends on the pharmacy and the payment provider, so it is best to check the payment options shown when you place your order.

The clinical process remains separate from payment. Before Mounjaro can be supplied, a UK registered prescriber needs to review your consultation and decide whether treatment is suitable for you. Choosing a payment method does not replace this assessment.

If treatment is not approved, you should not proceed with an order for medicine that has not been prescribed. If you have already made a payment, check the pharmacy's refund policy to understand what happens next.

What Changed on 15 July 2026

The rules around some buy now pay later products changed in July 2026. This is important if you are considering using instalments to pay for Mounjaro.

Before July 2026, some interest free buy now pay later products were outside FCA regulation. The UK Government introduced legislation to bring certain products into the regulated consumer credit system. The FCA then published its final rules in Policy Statement PS26/1 in February 2026, with the new rules taking effect from 15 July 2026.

What deferred payment credit means

The legal term is deferred payment credit, or DPC. It generally refers to interest free credit used to pay for goods or services, with repayment made in 12 or fewer instalments over 12 months or less.

The rules can apply when a third party lender finances your purchase from a separate merchant. In these arrangements, the lender is generally the regulated party rather than the pharmacy simply offering the payment option.

Lenders providing regulated deferred payment credit need the appropriate FCA permission or must operate under an applicable temporary permissions arrangement. The exact rules can depend on the type of agreement and the parties involved, so check the terms provided by the payment provider before committing to an instalment plan.

The protections that now apply

ProtectionWhat it means in practice
Affordability assessmentLenders must carry out proportionate creditworthiness and affordability checks before lending
Clear product informationYou must be given accessible information on repayment terms, amounts and what happens if you miss a payment
Missed payment rulesLenders must provide information after a missed repayment and give notice before taking certain action
Consumer DutyLenders are required to deliver good outcomes and act in customers' interests
Support in difficultyLenders must offer support and, where appropriate, forbearance if you are approaching or in financial difficulty
Financial Ombudsman ServiceIf you are unhappy with a lender's response to a complaint, you can escalate it
Section 75 protectionWhere something goes wrong with what you bought, you may be able to claim from the lender, similar to using a credit card

If your agreement predates July 2026

The new regulation is not retrospective. Agreements entered into before 15 July 2026 may remain outside the new rules, so protections such as access to the Financial Ombudsman Service or Section 75 may not apply in the same way. If you already have an older instalment plan, check the terms you agreed to rather than assuming the newer rules apply.

Interest Free Instalments Are Not the Same as Finance

These terms are often used interchangeably, but they can mean different things.

Interest free deferred payment credit allows you to spread a purchase over a short period, often a few weeks or months, without interest being added if you meet the payment terms. Late payment charges may still apply, depending on the agreement.

Interest bearing credit, such as some longer instalment plans, credit cards and personal loans, charges for borrowing the money. If an option includes an interest rate, APR or a repayment period longer than 12 months, it is not generally classed as deferred payment credit and may be subject to different rules.

If you are offered a longer payment plan, look at the total amount you will repay, not just the monthly payment. This gives you a clearer picture of what the credit will actually cost.

Why Financing a Prescription Medicine Is Different

Many instalment purchases are one off purchases. Weight management treatment can continue for longer, which changes how you need to look at the cost.

The cost can continue over time

Mounjaro is taken once a week, and each KwikPen contains four weekly doses, so one pen covers four weeks. Prices can vary between providers. For example, Mounjaro has been listed at £179.00 by Superdrug Online Doctor.

If you continue treatment, you will normally need further prescriptions and pens. This means the cost is not limited to your first order. Before choosing instalments, consider whether you would be comfortable with the ongoing cost as well as the first payment.

The price may change as your dose changes

The Mounjaro dose is increased gradually under prescriber supervision. Treatment normally starts at 2.5 mg before the dose is increased when appropriate.

The price of a later pen may therefore be different from the price of your starting pen. The highest available strength is 15 mg, but not everyone will need or be prescribed the highest dose. Your prescriber will decide whether a dose increase is appropriate based on factors such as your response and tolerability.

When planning your budget, look beyond the starting price and check the current cost of the strength you are actually prescribed.

You might not be approved, and you might not tolerate it

Not everyone who applies for Mounjaro will be suitable for treatment. A prescriber needs to review your medical history and other relevant information before deciding whether it is appropriate.

Mounjaro can cause side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea and constipation. These can be more noticeable when starting treatment or after a dose increase. Some people may also experience injection site reactions. If you develop severe symptoms or signs of a serious allergic reaction, seek urgent medical attention.

This is one reason to think carefully before taking out credit for several pens at once. Your treatment plan may change depending on how you respond and what your prescriber recommends. It may be better to understand your treatment and ongoing costs before committing to a larger purchase.

Stopping treatment can also affect your plans

In the SURMOUNT 4 trial, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained some of the weight they had previously lost over the following year, while people who continued treatment lost additional weight. This shows why stopping treatment can affect weight management, although individual results vary.

The practical point is that you should look beyond the cost of your first pen. If you are considering buy now pay later, ask yourself whether the repayments would remain manageable if treatment continues for a year or longer.

How long you use Mounjaro depends on your response, tolerability and ongoing clinical review. A sustainable eating pattern, healthy lifestyle habits and regular physical activity can also form part of a long term weight management plan.

What Mounjaro Actually Costs

Honest budgeting starts with the standard price rather than an introductory one, because the introductory price applies once and the standard price applies for the rest of your treatment.

StrengthPrice per penCost per weekly doseCost for a year at that strength
2.5mg£174.99£43.75£2,274.87
5mg£204.99£51.25£2,664.87
7.5mg£254.99£63.75£3,314.87
10mg£274.99£68.75£3,574.87
12.5mg£304.99£76.25£3,964.87
15mg£323.99£81.00£4,211.87

Prices are the standard website prices, correct at the time of writing. The live pricing table at checkout always takes precedence.

Two things about the annual column are worth keeping in mind. It assumes thirteen pens rather than twelve because a year contains 52 weekly doses and each pen covers four weeks. It also assumes that you stay on the same strength for a full year, which may not reflect your actual treatment plan. Clinical trials have reported substantial weight loss with tirzepatide, but individual results vary. Treat each annual figure as an illustration of the cost at that dose, rather than a prediction of what your treatment will cost over a year.

Costs that sit outside the pen price

  • Pen needles are usually bought separately. The Mounjaro KwikPen is supplied without needles, so you need a new suitable needle for each injection. Store unopened Mounjaro pens in the refrigerator at 2 to 8°C and do not freeze them.
  • A sharps bin may also be needed for safe disposal of used needles.
  • An express clinical review may cost extra, depending on the provider.
  • Next day delivery may also cost extra, depending on the delivery service you choose.
  • Introductory discount codes may only apply to a first order. When comparing prices, check what you will pay for your next pen rather than looking only at the discounted first order.

Questions Worth Asking Before Using Instalments for a Prescription

  • Is the plan interest free, and what is the total amount you will repay?
  • Are there any late payment fees, and when would they apply?
  • Will the agreement affect your credit file?
  • How many instalment payments could you have running at the same time?
  • Would you still be able to afford the payments if your prescribed dose or treatment cost changes?
  • Is the lender FCA authorised or operating under an applicable temporary permissions arrangement?
  • What happens to the payment agreement if your treatment is stopped or your prescription is not approved?

If you are worried about borrowing money to pay for treatment, it is better to pause and look at your options rather than taking on repayments that may become difficult to manage. You can also seek free debt advice from organisations such as StepChange, National Debtline or Citizens Advice.

Lower Cost Routes Worth Checking First

  • NHS access to tirzepatide is available in England for eligible patients, although the criteria and access arrangements are different from private treatment. It may be worth checking whether you qualify before paying privately.
  • Orlistat, available as Xenical, Alli and Orlos, is another weight management medicine. It works differently from Mounjaro by reducing the amount of dietary fat your body absorbs. It generally produces less weight loss than tirzepatide, but may cost less.
  • Other prescription weight management treatments may also be available. Your prescriber can explain which options may be suitable for you.
  • Comparing pharmacies can help, but make sure you are comparing like for like. Check the same strength, standard price, delivery costs and any clinical fees rather than comparing an introductory price with a standard price.
  • When working out your budget, look at the likely cost over several months rather than focusing only on the first pen.

The right option depends on your health, medical history and treatment needs. A prescriber can help you understand which treatment, if any, is suitable for you.

Eligibility and the Clinical Assessment

Private eligibility for Mounjaro weight management is generally considered from a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or above, or from 27 upwards where a weight related condition is present, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, raised cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea. Meeting a BMI threshold does not automatically mean that Mounjaro is suitable for you.

Mounjaro is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding. It is also not suitable for people under 18. Your prescriber will review your medical history, current medicines and other relevant factors before deciding whether treatment is appropriate. If you have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 syndrome, make sure your prescriber is aware.

If you use an oral contraceptive pill, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist about the MHRA advice on contraception when starting tirzepatide and after dose increases.

Mounjaro contains tirzepatide, which acts on the GIP and GLP 1 receptors. It can affect appetite and blood glucose regulation. Treatment should only be supplied after a clinical assessment and prescription from an appropriate prescriber and dispensed by a registered pharmacy.

If you want to buy Mounjaro online, choose a UK service that carries out a proper medical consultation and prescription review. You can check a UK pharmacy through the General Pharmaceutical Council public register. EveryDayMeds is operated by OVIO LTD, registered in Leicester, with pharmacy premises registration number 9012878.

Full details of the treatment are available on our page for Mounjaro treatment, and our overview of medically supervised weight loss explains the options available in the UK. If you have concerns about whether Mounjaro is suitable for you, speak to your GP, pharmacist or another qualified healthcare professional.

Warning Signs When Paying for Medicine Online

Be cautious if you come across:

  • A supplier offering Mounjaro without a proper consultation or medical assessment.
  • A questionnaire that appears unable to result in your treatment being refused, even when there may be a medical reason not to prescribe.
  • Prices that seem unusually low. Very low prices can be a warning sign of falsified or unsafe medicines. The MHRA has issued warnings about falsified Mounjaro pens in the UK.
  • Sellers operating through social media or online marketplaces, particularly where there is no clear information about the prescriber or pharmacy.
  • Products sold as research peptides in vials rather than licensed Mounjaro pens.
  • Requests for payment by bank transfer or another payment method where you may have limited consumer protection.

When buying prescription medicine online, checking the supplier and pharmacy is just as important as comparing the price. A genuine medicine should come through an appropriate prescribing and dispensing process.

Mounjaro is a Prescription Only Medicine and should only be used under the supervision of an appropriately qualified prescriber. Treatment suitability depends on an individual clinical assessment, and results vary between individuals.

Borrowing money can have financial consequences, including possible effects on your credit file. Always read the full terms of any credit agreement before accepting it. Prices quoted are correct at the time of writing, but live pricing at checkout takes precedence.

Speak to your GP, pharmacist or prescriber before starting or stopping treatment. If you are concerned about affordability, consider seeking independent advice from a free debt advice service.

Do not use Mounjaro if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. If you feel seriously unwell or develop severe stomach or abdominal pain, contact NHS 111 or seek urgent medical care. If you miss a scheduled dose, follow the instructions in the Mounjaro patient information leaflet or speak to your prescriber or pharmacist rather than taking a double dose.

Suspected side effects can be reported through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
