That is why you may find plenty of blue light offers on products such as clothing, travel and leisure, but far fewer on prescription medicines.
How to Check Whether a Discount Is Genuinely for Blue Light Cardholders
This is worth checking before you choose a pharmacy based on a claimed blue light discount. A genuine offer should have clear terms and should be available specifically to eligible cardholders.
- Is a specific amount or percentage stated, or does the offer only use vague wording such as "bigger savings"?
- Is there a verification step, such as confirming your Blue Light Card membership or providing proof of your role?
- Could someone who is not eligible get the same price using the same code? If so, it is a general promotion rather than a blue light discount.
- Are the terms clearly published, including the expiry date, exclusions and whether the offer applies to repeat orders?
- Does the pharmacy appear in the Blue Light Card partner directory? Check the official directory rather than relying only on wording on the pharmacy website.
- Are you simply asked to mention that you work for an eligible service to receive an unspecified reduction? If the discount has to be negotiated, it is not a clearly defined scheme benefit.
If the details are unclear, check the terms before ordering. A clear, genuine offer is more useful than choosing a provider based on an unclear discount claim.
Discount Codes Are Pharmacy Specific
A discount code issued by one online pharmacy will not normally work at another pharmacy. Each pharmacy sets its own prices, promotions and terms, including whether it offers any role based discount.
There is no general industry code that automatically gives you a lower Mounjaro price at every pharmacy. Comparison websites and coupon sites may also list old or inaccurate codes, so it is better to check the pharmacy's current terms directly.
Some providers may offer discounts for new customers, returning customers or future consultations. Check whether an offer is for a first order only, because the price you pay after the promotion ends is more important when planning the ongoing cost of treatment.

How Much Is Mounjaro on the NHS?

Starter pricing can be around £129.99 for first orders, while some pharmacies list 2.5 mg from £103.99. Asda lists the starting dose at £168.97, Pharmacy2U starts at £169.99 before discounts, and Numan advertises £249 reduced to £165.

Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses, so one pen covers four weeks. The annual column assumes thirteen pens rather than twelve, because a year contains 52 weekly doses. It also assumes one strength is used for the whole year, which is unlikely for most people because the dose is usually increased gradually under prescriber supervision.
A discount of £30 or £40 on a first order can be useful, especially when buying your first Mounjaro pen. However, when you consider the potential cost of ongoing treatment, the first order discount should not be the only reason you choose a pharmacy.
How to Compare Pharmacy Prices Properly
Comparing prices can be more useful than looking for a discount code, but only if you compare the same things.
- Compare the same strength at each pharmacy. Do not compare one pharmacy's starting dose with another pharmacy's higher maintenance dose.
- Look at the standard price as well as any introductory price, since a first order discount usually applies only once.
- Add delivery costs and check whether next day delivery is included or charged separately.

Be careful with claims such as "cheapest" or "best price". Prices can change regularly, so it is difficult for any pharmacy to remain the cheapest at all times. For a useful comparison, check the same strength, delivery costs, consultation fees and any other additional charges.
Other Ways to Reduce What You Pay
- Check your NHS eligibility with your GP first. If you are eligible for NHS treatment, this could make a significant difference to your overall cost.
- Check whether you qualify for free NHS prescriptions or whether a prescription prepayment certificate could reduce your costs.
- Health Service Discounts is a free scheme for NHS staff and can be used alongside a Blue Light Card. The Defence Discount Service also offers discounts for eligible armed forces personnel. Individual pharmacy offers can change, so check the current terms before relying on a discount. MedExpress, Asda, Pharmacy2U, Morrisons, Numan and Voy may offer promotional discounts at different times, but availability, eligibility and terms should be checked directly with each provider.
- Ask your employer about occupational health and staff wellbeing support. Some NHS trusts offer weight management, nutrition or physical activity programmes for staff.
- Ask your prescriber whether another treatment could be suitable for you. Orlistat is available on prescription and, at a lower strength, from pharmacies. It works differently from Mounjaro by reducing the absorption of dietary fat. It may be less expensive, but whether it is suitable depends on your individual circumstances.
- An oral weight loss medicine may avoid some cold chain delivery costs because it does not need to be transported in the same way as refrigerated medicines.
The right option depends on your individual clinical assessment. Your prescriber can help you understand which treatment is appropriate for you and what costs you may need to consider.
Does the Blue Light Card Cover Wegovy or Other Weight Loss Injections?
The same general principle applies to Wegovy and other prescription weight loss injections. Wegovy contains semaglutide and is a Prescription Only Medicine, so it is not automatically covered by the Blue Light Card scheme.
If a pharmacy advertises a blue light discount on Wegovy or another prescription weight loss medicine, check the offer carefully. Look for a clearly stated discount, eligibility requirements, verification process and published terms. Also check whether the price is genuinely different from the pharmacy's general promotional price.
Eligibility and the Clinical Assessment
A discount does not affect whether you are suitable for treatment. For private weight management services, eligibility is generally considered from a BMI of 30 or above, or from 27 upwards where a weight related condition is present, such as high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, raised cholesterol or obstructive sleep apnoea. Meeting a BMI threshold does not automatically mean that treatment is suitable.
In clinical trials, some people taking tirzepatide achieved weight loss of up to 22.5% over around 16.5 months. This was a clinical trial result and does not mean that everyone taking Mounjaro will achieve the same amount of weight loss.
Mounjaro is not suitable during pregnancy, when trying to conceive or while breastfeeding. It is also not intended for people under 18. People with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or MEN2 syndrome should discuss their medical history with a prescriber before treatment. Your prescriber will consider your BMI, medical history, current medicines and other relevant factors before deciding whether Mounjaro is appropriate.
Anyone using an oral contraceptive should also be aware of MHRA advice from June 2025 to use an additional barrier method, or a non oral form of contraception, for four weeks after starting tirzepatide and for four weeks after each dose increase.
Every prescription should involve a review by a UK registered prescriber, and the medicine should be dispensed by a GPhC registered pharmacy.
