In this guide
01 · The core answer
Is Mounjaro a treatment for ADHD?
No. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 ADHD is not on that list, and no part of the UK product information presents tirzepatide as an ADHD medicine.
You will see online claims that Mounjaro calms an ADHD brain. Treat these with caution. What the evidence does support is an effect on appetite, which is a different thing from an effect on attention, focus or impulse control.
Mounjaro cannot replace your ADHD medication either. Mounjaro and ADHD treatment do different jobs. Stopping or changing ADHD treatment is a decision for the clinician who manages it, not something to do because you have started a weight-management injection.
02 · Is this relevant to me?
What this means if you have ADHD and are considering Mounjaro
Having ADHD does not by itself rule you out of weight management treatment, but it does mean your consultation should be thorough.
| Question | Honest answer |
|---|---|
| Is Mounjaro licensed for ADHD? | No. Licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 |
| Does it improve ADHD symptoms? | It is not listed as a side effect in the UK patient leaflet. It is not a listed benefit in the product information. |
| What does it do? | Activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which helps regulate appetite and slows stomach emptying.1 |
| Can it replace ADHD medication? | No. It is a different type of medicine for a different purpose. |
| Should I tell my prescriber about my ADHD treatment? | Yes, always, including every prescribed medicine and supplement you take. |
| Where do I report an unexpected symptom? | To your prescriber, and through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 |
The practical decision you face is simple. Do you have a weight-management reason to consider Mounjaro, and can you give a prescriber your full medical picture? If both are true, the next step is a proper consultation. If your main goal is better ADHD control, speak to your GP or ADHD specialist instead.
03 · What to do next
Your next step
If weight management is the reason you are reading, our weight loss clinic explains how the service works. The consultation is free, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), as of 10 October 2026.
If you take ADHD medicines, read our guide on Mounjaro and ADHD medication before you apply. It covers what to tell the prescriber and why.
04 · What Mounjaro is licensed for
What Mounjaro is licensed for
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
That licence matters for ADHD questions. A licence describes the conditions where a medicine has been tested and shown to work, and where its risks have been weighed. ADHD is not one of them for tirzepatide. Using a medicine for an unlicensed purpose is a prescribing decision with its own responsibilities, and we do not offer Mounjaro as an ADHD treatment.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. It is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.1
The patient information leaflet in every pack lists the recognised side effects and what to do about them. It is the right place to check whether a symptom is a known effect.13
05 · Does Mounjaro affect ADHD symptoms?
Does Mounjaro affect ADHD symptoms?
There is no established effect of Mounjaro on ADHD symptoms.
What the medicine does is act on appetite. Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1
That is an appetite effect. A person with ADHD who eats impulsively might find that feeling fuller changes their day, but that is a side benefit of the weight-management action. It is not a treatment of the condition, and it should not be described as one.
What if you feel different in other ways after starting? Perhaps your mood, focus or sleep changes. Treat any new or worrying symptom seriously. Tell your prescriber, who can look at the full picture including your ADHD treatment, and consider reporting it through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Yellow Card reports help the regulator spot patterns across the whole UK.
Online posts about how Mounjaro feels for ADHD are not evidence. If a clinician has a formal view on your case, that is the view to trust.
06 · Mounjaro alongside ADHD medication
Mounjaro alongside ADHD medication
Many adults with ADHD take prescribed medication, and many also want help with weight. Whether the two can be used together is a clinical decision for your prescriber, based on your medicines, your health history and your response to treatment.
There is no blanket rule here, which is why disclosure matters. Our consultation is a short health questionnaire, free and with no obligation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber rather than a scoring script. List every medicine you take, prescribed or not, and the prescriber can assess the combination.
Three principles hold whatever you take:
- Never stop, reduce or swap ADHD medication on your own because you are starting a weight-management injection.
- Tell the prescriber about your ADHD diagnosis and every medicine you use, including those from a specialist or private clinic.
- Raise any change in how you feel with a clinician rather than waiting to see if it passes.
Our related guides go into the practical detail. See can I take Mounjaro with ADHD medication for the question most people ask first, and ADHD meds and Mounjaro for what to bring to your consultation. If you are wondering how ADHD drugs interact with body weight, our page on ADHD drugs and weight loss sets out that separate question.
Ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team are part of our aftercare, so there is a place to raise concerns as treatment continues. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically.
07 · Dopamine, food noise and what is unproven
Dopamine, food noise and what is unproven
Dopamine. Tirzepatide acts on gut-hormone receptors, appetite, stomach emptying and insulin response. Mounjaro is not known to change dopamine in a way that treats ADHD.
Food noise. This is a popular, non-clinical phrase for constant thoughts about food. It is not a term used in the product information. What the product information does support is that most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1 Some people describe this as quieter thinking about food. That is a description of appetite, and it is a reasonable one. It does not follow that attention or impulsivity in general improve.
Blood sugar. Tirzepatide improves the way the body responds to insulin.1 Steadier eating patterns can make a day feel more manageable, but that remains an indirect and individual effect, not an ADHD treatment.
Be wary of pages that present these indirect ideas as proven ADHD benefits. A fair summary is this: appetite changes are the established action, and anything beyond that is unproven. Our guide to gut-hormone medicines and ADHD takes the wider class of medicines through the same question.
08 · Weight, eating and ADHD
Weight, eating and ADHD
If your reason for considering Mounjaro is weight, the evidence base is for weight management, so it helps to know what it shows. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2
These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 The trial was not about ADHD, so it cannot tell you how someone with ADHD will respond. Be honest with yourself and with your prescriber about that gap.
Practical points specific to ADHD often matter more than the trial figures. A weekly injection suits some people with ADHD because it is a single, fixed routine, while others find remembering a weekly day hard. Think about phone reminders, a set day, and a place to keep the pen. Our free companion app GLPTrackr can help you log your journey on iOS or Android.
Similarly, regular meals and a reduced-calorie plan need organising. If planning is hard for you, say so in the consultation. Support from the prescribing team is built into monthly reviews. If you are comparing options, see weight loss injections and ADHD.
09 · Getting Mounjaro safely in the UK
Getting Mounjaro safely in the UK
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions). Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.4
If you go private, choose a regulated pharmacy. We are GPhC-registered (9012878), and you can check that on the public register.12 Beware of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts, and genuine pens come from a legitimate supply chain.7 Our Mounjaro comes via official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.
- Free online consultation. A short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. Include your ADHD diagnosis and treatment.
- Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
- Dispensing, dispatch and delivery. Dispensed by our registered pharmacy, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.
Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Support is available Monday to Friday by phone on 0333 207 0413 or email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk.
10 · ADHD questions we leave to clinicians
ADHD questions we leave to clinicians
Questions about ADHD diagnosis, ADHD medicines and their side effects are best answered by your GP or ADHD specialist.
For those questions, speak to your GP, your ADHD specialist or service, or see the NHS website. They can look at your history, your symptoms and your goals. If an ADHD medicine is causing side effects, take that to the clinician who prescribes it rather than trying to manage it with another product.
11 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
