If you are looking for Mounjaro 5mg in the UK, you may already have completed the starting stage of treatment and be wondering whether 5mg is the right next dose for you. The practical questions are usually simple: how much does Mounjaro 5mg cost, is there a discount available, and what should you expect when your dose changes?

The usual starting dose of Mounjaro is 2.5mg once a week. After at least four weeks, your prescriber may consider increasing the dose to 5mg based on your response to treatment and how well you tolerate it. Moving to 5mg is a clinical decision, so it should not be based on price or personal preference alone.

At EveryDayMeds, the current standard price for a 5mg pen is £199.99. New customers can currently use code FIRST40 to receive £40 off, bringing the price to £159.99. Eligible repeat orders are currently £174.99. Prices and promotional offers can change, so check the live price and offer terms before ordering.

This guide explains the current Mounjaro 5mg price in the UK, how the discount works, what may change when you move up from 2.5mg, and what to know about side effects, contraception, storage and ongoing clinical reviews.

It also covers eligibility and the ordering process, so you can understand the treatment and costs and have a clearer idea of what to expect before deciding whether Mounjaro 5mg is appropriate for you.

What Actually Changes When You Move Up to 5mg

The cost goes up

One of the practical changes when moving to 5mg is the price. A 5mg pen costs more than a 2.5mg pen, and higher strengths may cost more again.

At EveryDayMeds, the current standard price for a 5mg pen is £199.99. New customers can use code FIRST40 for £40 off, bringing the first order price to £159.99. Eligible repeat orders are currently £174.99.

Prices and promotional offers can change, so check the live pricing and current offer terms before placing an order. If you are planning longer term treatment, it can also help to check the prices of higher strengths rather than budgeting only around the 5mg price.

Our twelve month cost guide explains how treatment costs can vary across different strengths.

Side effects of Mounjaro may become noticeable again

If you had side effects when you first started Mounjaro, you may notice some of them again after increasing the dose. Common side effects include nausea, constipation, diarrhoea, indigestion, vomiting and reduced appetite.

These effects can be more noticeable after a dose increase, although everyone responds differently. They may improve as your body adjusts to the new dose. Eating smaller portions, stopping when you feel full and drinking enough fluids may help with some digestive symptoms.

If vomiting or diarrhoea continues, there is a risk of dehydration. Severe or persistent abdominal pain, particularly pain that spreads to the back, needs prompt medical assessment. Seek urgent medical help if you develop symptoms of a serious allergic reaction.

If your side effects are severe, persistent or causing you concern, speak to your prescriber. You do not need to simply push through symptoms that are difficult to manage.

Contraception advice applies again

If you take the oral contraceptive pill, this is an important point to discuss with your prescriber when your dose changes.

The MHRA issued advice in June 2025 concerning tirzepatide and oral contraception. Because tirzepatide can delay gastric emptying, it may affect the absorption of oral contraceptives. Additional or non oral contraception is advised for four weeks after starting treatment and for four weeks after each increase in dose.

This means the advice may apply when you move to 5mg and again if your dose is increased later. If you use oral contraception, mention it during your consultation so your prescriber can advise you on suitable contraception.

Your prescriber reviews whether the increase is appropriate

Moving from 2.5mg to 5mg is not an automatic step. Your prescriber will consider factors such as how you have responded to treatment, any side effects you have experienced and your overall health before deciding whether an increase is appropriate.

If you are unsure whether you should move to 5mg, speak to your prescriber rather than changing the dose yourself. The aim is to find a dose that is appropriate for you and that you can tolerate safely.

NICE guidance also includes a review point. Under technology appraisal TA1026, if less than 5 per cent of initial body weight has been lost after six months on the highest tolerated dose, the clinician should reassess whether continuing treatment is appropriate.

The important point: your prescriber decides whether you should move to 5mg and whether you should continue at that strength. The information on this page is not a substitute for individual medical advice.

What Mounjaro 5mg Is for Weight Loss

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly and supplied in the KwikPen device. The 5mg strength means each weekly dose contains 5mg of tirzepatide, and one pen contains four weekly doses.

Tirzepatide acts on two hormone receptors called GIP and GLP 1. These hormones are involved in appetite regulation, feelings of fullness and blood glucose control. When used alongside dietary and lifestyle changes, Mounjaro may help some people manage their weight.

Some people notice changes in appetite or feelings of fullness during treatment. The timing and extent of these effects vary from person to person, so there is no single experience that applies to everyone.

Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management alongside a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is also licensed separately for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. Clinical guidance and trial protocols consider tirzepatide alongside dietary and activity changes rather than as a replacement for them.

The Evidence

Clinical studies have found that people taking tirzepatide experienced reductions in body weight on average, although individual results varied. The amount of weight lost can depend on factors such as the dose, treatment duration and individual response.

SURMOUNT 5 compared tirzepatide with semaglutide directly over 72 weeks. Mean weight reduction was 20.2 per cent with tirzepatide and 13.7 per cent with semaglutide. These figures are averages from a clinical trial and should not be treated as a prediction of how much weight you will lose. Individual results can be different, and semaglutide may be more suitable for some people.

For context, Health Survey for England data reports that 29 per cent of adults were living with obesity and 64 per cent were overweight or living with obesity.

Eligibility

For weight management, the licensed criteria generally include a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI of 27 or above where at least one weight related health condition is present. Examples include high blood pressure, dyslipidaemia, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.

Mounjaro may not be suitable if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or trying to conceive. Your prescriber will also consider your medical history, including conditions such as previous pancreatitis, certain digestive conditions, or a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma or multiple endocrine neoplasia type 2. Mounjaro is not licensed for weight management in people under 18.

These are general criteria rather than a self assessment. Meeting the criteria does not automatically mean that Mounjaro will be prescribed. Your prescriber will review your individual circumstances and decide whether treatment is appropriate.

Eligibility can also differ between private prescribing and NHS access. NHS treatment follows specific eligibility requirements and may involve referral through specialist weight management services.

If you are still weighing up options, our guide to prescription weight loss treatments covers injectable and oral routes side by side.

Ordering Mounjaro 5mg Online

  1. Complete the free online consultation covering your medical history, current medicines, any diabetes medications, height and weight, and how you have responded to treatment so far if you are already using Mounjaro. If you want to request Mounjaro online, you need to complete a consultation because it is a prescription only weight management treatment and can only be supplied following an appropriate clinical assessment. If you use insulin or a sulfonylurea, your prescriber can consider whether you need additional monitoring or any changes to your medicines.
  2. Prescriber review is typically completed within 3 working days as standard, or within 24 hours where express review is available.
  3. Dispensing is carried out by our GPhC registered UK pharmacy once your prescription has been approved.
  4. Free tracked delivery is provided in plain, insulated packaging.

If your prescriber decides that Mounjaro is not suitable for you, you are not charged for medicine that is not supplied.

How fast can it arrive?

Express review may provide a prescribing decision within 24 hours. Once treatment has been approved, your order can be prepared for dispatch. Delivery is tracked, so you can follow its progress.

Comparing 5mg Prices Between UK Pharmacies

The price of Mounjaro 5mg can vary between UK providers. Before choosing a pharmacy, it is worth looking beyond the headline price.

Check what is included. Some providers charge separately for the consultation, prescription, delivery or needles, while others include these in the advertised price. A lower starting price may not mean a lower overall cost once additional fees are included.

Check the strength being quoted. Some advertised prices refer to the 2.5mg starting strength rather than the 5mg pen you are looking for. Always compare the same strength.

Check that it is the licensed product. There is no licensed generic tirzepatide in the UK. Compounded or unbranded tirzepatide is not the same as the licensed Mounjaro product, and the MHRA has warned about falsified weight loss medicines being sold outside the regulated supply chain.

Check the pharmacy on the GPhC register. The General Pharmaceutical Council maintains a public register of registered pharmacies. Checking the pharmacy before sharing your medical information or placing an order can help you make a more informed choice.

We publish our prices openly so you can compare the cost without adding anything to your basket. We do not claim to be the cheapest pharmacy in the UK because prices and offers can change between providers.
