A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Lilly's Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a weekly injection licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.
-
Mounjaro activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors together, which separates it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide.
-
Mounjaro is on the NHS, but access is phased over several years, so many people use regulated private treatment.
-
Mounjaro and Foundayo are prescription-only: buy only from a registered pharmacy after a prescriber review.

01 · The core answer
Which Lilly GLP-1 medicine is relevant to you?
For most UK adults researching weight management, the relevant Lilly medicine is Mounjaro. It is licensed in the UK for weight management and has an NHS pathway and trial results behind it. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly.1
Foundayo (orforglipron) is Lilly's tablet. It has its own UK product information, which your prescriber would use to judge suitability.21

02 · What to do next
What should you do next?
If you meet the licensed criteria and want the injection, the next step is a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40, against a standard price of £169.99. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25).

03 · How Mounjaro works
How Mounjaro works
Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1
In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1
Our page on AMPK and GLP-1 goes into related biology.
04 · Mounjaro trial results
What the trial showed
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2
These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight.2
Trial averages do not predict your own result, so a prescriber will set expectations with you individually.
05 · NHS and private access
NHS and private access
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46
Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. A private prescription is still a prescription: it follows a consultation and a prescriber's review.
06 · Buying safely
Buying Lilly GLP-1 medicines safely
Buy only from a pharmacy listed on the GPhC register. Anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7 Report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19
We are GPhC-registered (9012878) and supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution. Delivery is free, next-day, tracked and temperature-controlled, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm.
07 · Investor and news searches
Lilly in the news versus Lilly on prescription
Many news stories about Lilly cover its profits, share price and pipeline. They tell you little about whether a medicine suits you. If you are curious about the company side, see our stock analysis page and our wider Eli Lilly overview.
Pipeline headlines also cover medicines still in development. None of these medicines in development is something you can be prescribed today.
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
