Is Jardiance an Appetite Suppressant? (October 2026)

No, Jardiance (empagliflozin) is not an appetite suppressant. It is a prescription diabetes medicine, not a licensed weight-management treatment, and it is not designed to make you feel fuller or less hungry. Any weight change on it is modest and varies from person to person; your prescriber can advise on what to expect. Medicines that do act on appetite, such as Mounjaro, work in a different way. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Jardiance is a diabetes medicine, not an appetite suppressant and not a licensed weight-loss treatment.
  • Any weight change on Jardiance is modest and varies from person to person; your prescriber can advise on what to expect.
  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed for weight management and acts on appetite hormones, which Jardiance does not.
  • Never take someone else's diabetes tablets for weight loss; a prescriber should review any medicine you use.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Does Jardiance decrease appetite?

Jardiance is not used to reduce appetite. It is prescribed to manage diabetes, and its job is to help control blood sugar. Reduced hunger is not what it is for, and it is not how it is expected to work.

That distinction matters. An appetite suppressant changes the signals that tell you when to eat. Jardiance does not act on those signals in the way tirzepatide does. If you feel less hungry on it, mention it to your prescriber rather than assuming it is a benefit.

Any weight change on Jardiance is modest and varies from person to person. Your prescriber is the right person to discuss what to expect.

02 · What to do next

Is this relevant to you?

If you already take Jardiance for diabetes, keep taking it as prescribed and do not stop it to chase weight loss. If you want to lose weight and do not have a diabetes prescription, Jardiance is not a route to that. It is a prescription-only medicine and is not suitable to take for weight loss on your own.

For adults who meet the licensing criteria, treatments that are licensed for weight management exist. Our weight loss clinic explains the options, and a free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

03 · What appetite suppression means

What counts as an appetite suppressant?

An appetite suppressant is something that lowers hunger or makes you feel full sooner. Plenty of everyday things are loosely called that, from espresso to honey or spirulina, and the evidence behind such claims is usually weak.

Among prescription medicines, only some are designed for this. Tirzepatide is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Jardiance is a diabetes medicine, so it sits in a different category.

04 · How Mounjaro differs

How Mounjaro works on appetite

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

That appetite effect is the reason it is used for weight management.

05 · Other 'appetite' claims

Other medicines people ask about

Low-cost supplements are sold without clinical oversight, and dramatic weight-loss claims around them should be treated with caution.

Some prescription medicines are also asked about for appetite, such as guanfacine, and others have only minor links, like zinc. A medicine prescribed for one condition should not be repurposed for weight loss without a prescriber's advice.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can Jardiance decrease appetite?
Jardiance is not prescribed or designed to decrease appetite, and it does not work on hunger signals the way tirzepatide does. Some people notice changes in how they eat for other reasons. If your appetite changes noticeably on any medicine, tell your prescriber, who can check whether it is related.
How much weight can you lose on Jardiance?
Any weight change is generally modest and varies from person to person. Your prescriber can discuss what to expect for your situation. If weight loss is your main goal, a licensed weight-management treatment is a different conversation.
Do you lose more weight with Jardiance or Ozempic?
The two are not interchangeable. Ozempic is semaglutide, licensed for type 2 diabetes only; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss. Jardiance is a different diabetes treatment. Your diabetes prescriber should decide which suits you, based on your health rather than weight alone.
Does Jardiance get rid of belly fat?
Where weight is lost, it is not possible to choose where it comes from. A reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity remain the foundation of any weight-management plan.
What is the biggest side effect of Jardiance?
The full list is in the patient information leaflet that comes with the medicine. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you notice anything new or worrying, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist, and you can report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
What's better than Ozempic for diabetes?
No single medicine is better for everyone. The right diabetes treatment depends on your blood sugar, other conditions and other medicines, so your GP or diabetes team decides. Tirzepatide is also licensed for type 2 diabetes in the UK, and the NHS explains where it fits in its guidance.5
Can I use Mounjaro instead if I want to lose weight?
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. It is prescription-only and supplied after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, who checks whether it is suitable for you.1
