01 · The short answer

Does Humira help you lose weight, and what should you do instead?

Humira is not a weight-management medicine. Your Humira prescriber or specialist team is the right person to ask about weight changes you have noticed.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults, once a week, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 If you already take Humira for another condition and also meet the weight criteria, you can ask for a prescriber to consider Mounjaro. The decision rests on your full medical history and current medicines.1

The SURMOUNT-1 figures come from a trial of 2,539 adults who took tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise, compared with 3.1% for lifestyle changes alone. They are trial averages, and individual results vary.2

02 · Your next step

What to do if you take Humira and want help with weight

Start by being open with whoever prescribes each medicine. Your Humira team should know that you want to lose weight, and a weight-management prescriber should know that you take Humira. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro is suitable.1 Nothing is lost by listing everything: the consultation is free, and an order that turns out to be unsuitable is refunded automatically.

Licensed eligibility is a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 If you fit that description, you can start your free consultation. The Mounjaro pen comes in six strengths, and we stock all six doses, currently in stock.

If you are only comparing options, our weight loss injections guide sets out what is licensed and what is marketing.

03 · Ordering

How ordering works, in three steps

First, complete the free online consultation: a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. Include Humira and every other medicine you take.

Second, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. This is a person making a clinical decision, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

Third, our registered pharmacy dispenses your pen. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day, with free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order, and you can pay by Visa, Mastercard, Klarna or pay-monthly options, with no subscription.

04 · Humira and weight

Does Humira cause you to lose weight?

Humira is not one of the medicines we supply, and weight change is a question for the clinician who prescribes it.

If your weight has moved up or down since starting Humira, the useful steps are practical. Note when the change began, how much it has been, and whether it came with other symptoms such as altered appetite, tiredness or digestive changes. Take that record to the clinician who prescribes your Humira. They know your condition, your dose and your monitoring history, which we do not.

If you suspect a medicine has caused a symptom, you can report it yourself through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, which is open to patients as well as professionals.19 Reporting helps regulators spot patterns across many people. It is not a diagnosis, and it does not replace speaking to your prescriber.

05 · Do biologics help?

Do biologics help you lose weight?

Biologics are prescribed for the conditions they are licensed for, and weight management is a separate licensed use with its own treatments.

That distinction matters when you are researching online. A medicine can be associated with weight change in conversation without being a weight-management treatment. Licensing means a regulator has reviewed evidence for a specific use, in a specific group of people, at a specific dose.

For comparison, here is what a licensed weight-management evidence base looks like. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults, and the SURMOUNT-1 trial measured results at 72 weeks in 2,539 adults. People taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg, against 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 Those are trial averages, and individual results vary.

Treat any claim that a non-weight-loss medicine is a hidden slimming aid with caution, particularly if it comes from a seller. Sellers who promise dramatic weight-loss claims from a product that is not licensed for weight management are a warning sign. A legitimate supplier asks about your health, reviews your medicines and requires a prescription for a prescription-only treatment.

If you want to explore other injections that people ask about, we have covered several on their own pages, including NAD injections and weight loss and Beplex Forte injections.

If you notice a new symptom after starting any medicine, tell your prescriber and consider a Yellow Card report.19

06 · Combining injections

Can you take weight loss injections while on Humira?

Whether you can add a weight-loss injection while on Humira is a decision for a prescriber who knows your full medicines list.

That means the single most useful thing you can do is complete the consultation fully. Name Humira, name the dose schedule your specialist set, and mention the condition it treats. Add everything else too, including over-the-counter products and supplements. Leaving something out does not make it safer. It only removes the information the prescriber needs.

Do not stop, delay or change your Humira in order to start a weight-loss injection. Decisions about your Humira belong to the clinician managing the condition it treats. If a weight-loss prescriber has questions about how the two fit together, the sensible route is for both clinical teams to be told what the other is doing.

Some medicine interactions are described in the product information for Mounjaro, and the prescriber works from that. One example is insulin and sulfonylureas, where doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk. Another is oral contraceptives, because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well the pill is absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 If you use any of those, say so.

The medicine also has side effects of its own. The commonest early ones are mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection, and these usually settle.1 Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention: seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

If you notice something new, report it to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.19 If you want a wider look at what else exists, see our page on an alternative to GLP-1 injections for weight loss.

07 · What Mounjaro is

What Mounjaro is and how it works

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1 That dual action is what distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, sourced directly from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, as genuine KwikPens. You can check our pharmacy on the GPhC register under registration 9012878.

If you would like to compare it with the other licensed weekly option, read our guide to Wegovy weight loss injections in the UK.

08 · Eligibility and NHS

Who is eligible, and what about the NHS?

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples are high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.1 If you take Humira for an inflammatory or autoimmune condition, that is part of your medical history and belongs in the consultation. The prescriber, not a website, decides.

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40 or above with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

If you already see a specialist for the condition you take Humira for, they may be a good first contact about NHS weight-management routes. Ask your GP or specialist team what is available locally and where you sit in the phased rollout.

Private treatment is a different route with different rules. You pay for the medicine, the consultation is free, and the licensed criteria in the product information apply. Neither route is a shortcut around a clinical assessment. Both involve a clinician deciding whether the treatment is appropriate for you.

Do not be tempted by anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. A prescription-only medicine should never be available that way, and counterfeit products are a recognised risk. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for suspected problems.7

09 · Doses and pace

Dose ladder and a realistic pace of results

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber guides the right pace.1

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. The SURMOUNT-1 trial measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.2

Experiences differ widely. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in.1

For a sense of scale, SURMOUNT-1 reported that 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight at 72 weeks. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.2 As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. Trial averages do not predict your own result, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

Your response is reviewed. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.1

10 · Injecting and timing

How to inject, and the best time of day

There is no best time of day to inject Mounjaro. It works the same morning or evening, with or without food. What matters is the same day each week.1 Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off. If you are asking the same question about Humira, follow the schedule and leaflet your Humira prescriber gave you, because we cannot advise on a medicine we do not supply.

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses.1

You set the dose by turning the dose knob until the indicator shows the correct dose in the window. For the pen's exact steps, follow the instructions that come with it.13

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.1

You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1

If you take several injectables on different schedules, a simple calendar helps keep them straight. Our free companion app, GLPTrackr, is available on iOS and Android for tracking a GLP-1 journey. Keep each medicine's schedule separate, and never assume that rules for one apply to another. Each has its own leaflet and its own prescriber to ask.

11 · Storage and travel

Storing and travelling with your pen

Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2 to 8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which is useful for short trips, after which it should be discarded. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.1

For unopened pens, store them in the fridge until first use, and they keep until the expiry date printed on the box. If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy and the patient information leaflet before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.13

That warning applies even more strongly if you keep several refrigerated injectables. Storage rules differ between medicines, so do not carry a rule over from one product to another. Read the leaflet for each, and ask the pharmacy that dispensed it if you are unsure.

You can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements. For hot climates use an insulated pouch, and check destination rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.1

Our deliveries arrive in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging by free next-day tracked delivery, so a pen should reach you in good condition. Put it in the fridge as soon as you open the parcel unless you are about to use it.

Sharps need safe disposal. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order, so you do not have to improvise.

If you ever doubt a pen, whether because of a freezing event, damage or an unfamiliar appearance, do not use it. Contact support on Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat, or by phone on 0333 207 0413.

12 · Costs over a year

What Mounjaro costs over the first year

Planning the cost of Mounjaro is simpler than it looks, because the dose ladder sets the order of pens. All figures here are standard prices before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

PhasePensCost at standard prices
First year if you settle at 5mg (52 weeks)13£2,711.88
First year if you settle at 15mg (52 weeks)13£3,599.88

Other maintenance doses cost their monthly price: £279.99 for 7.5mg, £290.99 for 10mg and £319.99 for 12.5mg. Each is a standard price for one 4-week pen, and every later order is £25 off it.

Many people stay below the top dose. Your prescriber guides where you settle, and higher is not automatically better.2 If you switch to us from another provider at a higher dose, your first order is still £40 off the standard price.

Consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees. You can pay by card, Klarna or pay-monthly options, and there is no subscription. Repeat orders re-check suitability, with no auto-shipping, and ongoing monthly reviews are included.

See the Mounjaro pen page for live prices at every dose.

13 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does Humira cause you to lose weight?
If your weight has changed since you started it, note when it began and any other symptoms, then talk to the clinician who prescribes your Humira. You can also report suspected effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Can you take weight loss injections while on Humira?
That is a decision for a prescriber who knows your full medicines list. In our process, a GPhC-registered prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether Mounjaro is suitable. Name Humira on your free consultation and do not stop or change it yourself. Your Humira prescriber should also know that you are considering a weight-loss treatment.
Do biologics help you lose weight?
Biologics are prescribed for the conditions they are licensed for, and weight management is a separate licensed use with its own treatments. Mounjaro, for example, is licensed for weight management in adults and has measured trial results. Be cautious of anyone promoting dramatic weight-loss claims for a medicine that is not licensed for that purpose.
How long does it take to feel the benefits of Humira injections?
Your prescriber or specialist team can tell you what to expect and when it will be reviewed. For comparison, Mounjaro is gradual by design: the first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase, and most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.
Is Humira hard on your body?
Read the patient information leaflet that came with it, and raise concerns with your prescriber. If you notice a new or worrying symptom, tell your prescriber and consider reporting it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, which accepts reports from patients as well as professionals.
How long do most people stay on Humira, and can you ever get off it?
How long you stay on it, and whether stopping is appropriate, is a clinical decision for the specialist managing your condition. Do not stop it on your own to start a weight-loss injection. If you take Mounjaro, note that after a final dose tirzepatide takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear.
How can you tell if Humira is working?
Your prescriber or specialist team is the right person to judge that, using the measures relevant to your condition. Keep your review appointments and keep a record of symptoms. For Mounjaro, progress is judged by trend rather than single weigh-ins, and if you have lost less than 5% of starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will review the plan.
When is the best time of day to inject Humira?
Follow the schedule and leaflet from your Humira prescriber, since we do not supply it and cannot advise on its timing. For Mounjaro, there is no best time of day. It works the same morning or evening, with or without food, and what matters is the same day each week. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.
What is the licensed injection for weight loss if I take Humira?
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injection licensed in the UK for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity. A prescriber decides suitability after reviewing your medicines, including Humira. Your first 2.5mg pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40, and prices are checked 12 October 2026.
