Hum GLP-1: What It Is and How It Compares to GLP-1 Medicine (October 2026)
"Hum GLP-1" refers to a HUM Nutrition fibre supplement marketed with GLP-1 language, not a GLP-1 medicine. It is not a prescription treatment and does not work like tirzepatide, which activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors.1 A supplement can sit alongside a healthy diet, but it is a different category from licensed treatment.

Hum GLP-1 usually means HUM Nutrition's supplement, sold as a food product rather than a prescription medicine.
-
Mounjaro is a licensed prescription medicine; its action on GIP and GLP-1 receptors is not something a fibre powder replicates.
-
Weight-loss trial figures belong to licensed medicines, not to supplements, and individual results vary.
-
If you want a licensed option, start with a free consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
-
Always check any supplement with a pharmacist or your prescriber if you take other medicines.
In this guide
01 · The short answer
What does Hum GLP-1 actually mean?
Hum GLP-1 is shorthand for a supplement from the HUM Nutrition brand that is promoted as supporting your body's own GLP-1 response. It is sold as a food supplement, not a medicine. That means it has not been through the licensing process that a prescription treatment goes through.
Some people find a fibre product helpful for digestion or for feeling full between meals. That is a modest, everyday goal. It is quite different from the claim that a powder can "boost" a hormone in the way a medicine does.
For more on how this particular product is discussed, see our guide on whether the Hum GLP-1 Booster works.
02 · Comparison
Supplement or medicine: what is the difference?
The difference is regulation, evidence and mechanism. The table sets out the categories.
| Feature | Fibre or "GLP-1 booster" supplement | Mounjaro (tirzepatide) |
|---|---|---|
| Category | Food supplement | Prescription-only medicine1 |
| Assessment before supply | None needed | Online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber |
| Mechanism | Dietary fibre and other ingredients; dosing is not standardised | Activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors1 |
| Trial evidence for weight loss | None available for supplements | SURMOUNT-1, over 72 weeks2 |
| Cost | Low-cost supplement, no clinical oversight | See the live prices on the product page |
03 · What next
Which route is right for you?
The right route depends on your goal and your health. If you want general digestive support, a supplement may be reasonable, and a pharmacist can tell you whether it suits any medicines you take. If you want clinically meaningful weight management and meet the licensed criteria, a prescribed treatment is the better-evidenced path.
If that second route interests you, our weight loss clinic explains the options. The Mounjaro pen starts at a standard price of £169.99 for the 2.5mg starting dose, and the consultation is free with no obligation.
04 · How GLP-1 medicine works
How does a GLP-1 medicine work?
A GLP-1 medicine works by activating a gut-hormone receptor. Tirzepatide goes further: it is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1.1
Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1
That is a pharmacological action at a defined dose. A supplement that claims to "boost" GLP-1 is making a different kind of claim, and dosing is not standardised across such products.
05 · Do GLP-1 supplements work?
Do GLP-1 supplements work?
There is no evidence that a supplement matches a licensed GLP-1 medicine. The headline weight-loss numbers people see online come from medicine trials, not from supplements.
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, and individual results vary.2 Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2
You should be wary of any seller that offers a comparable figure for a supplement alongside dramatic weight-loss claims. Low-cost supplements are available cheaply without assessment, and that convenience is exactly why the marketing deserves scrutiny.
06 · Natural GLP-1 and food
Can food or lifestyle activate GLP-1 naturally?
Your body already produces GLP-1 after eating, and ordinary healthy eating is the sensible foundation. No food or powder mimics a prescription medicine's effects.
Regular meals, protein, plenty of fibre-rich plants, sleep and activity are standard healthy-living advice. They help overall health. If you are curious about the biology, our page on AMPK and GLP-1 goes deeper.
Questions like "what foods should you not eat on GLP-1" or "what is the worst carb for belly fat" have no single-food answer. Weight is not lost from one body area by avoiding one food, so a registered dietitian or your prescriber can give advice that fits you. If you are prescribed a medicine, follow the guidance in the patient information leaflet.13
07 · Fibre and safety
Is a fibre supplement safe with GLP-1 medicine?
Check with a pharmacist or your prescriber before combining any supplement with a prescription medicine.
Tirzepatide slows how quickly the stomach empties, which is part of how it works.1 That is one reason to run any new product past a professional rather than adding it by yourself. The same goes for oral contraceptives: the medicine can reduce their absorption because stomach emptying slows, so ask your prescriber about extra precautions.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1
If you notice any new symptom after starting a supplement or a medicine, tell your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. 08 · Licensed options in the UK
What licensed GLP-1 options exist in the UK?
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
Wegovy (semaglutide) is another licensed once-weekly option, and you can view the Wegovy pen on our site. Names that look like brands but are not, such as Ozempil, are worth checking carefully, as is any "agonist" wording used loosely online.
EverydayMeds is a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (GPhC 9012878), and you can check our entry on the GPhC register.12 We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, and delivery is free and next-day in temperature-controlled packaging. Always buy prescription medicines from a registered pharmacy, never from anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.
09 · NHS and private access
What about NHS access?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46
Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.
Our process is simple: a free online consultation, a review by a GPhC-registered prescriber, then dispensing and delivery. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. New customers save £40 on their first order with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
