How to Get Rid of Sulphur Burps on Mounjaro (October 2026)

Sulphur (eggy) burps are not listed as a side effect in the Mounjaro patient leaflet, though burping and indigestion are, and Mounjaro slows how quickly the stomach empties.1 Tell your prescriber, and ask a pharmacist about over-the-counter options that suit your other medicines.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Sulphur (eggy) burps are not a listed side effect in the UK leaflet, but burping is; speak to your prescriber rather than guessing at fixes.
  • Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which is part of its mechanism.
  • Ask a pharmacist before combining over-the-counter remedies with your other medicines.
  • Report any side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · Your next step

What to do about sulphur burps on Mounjaro

Start by telling your prescriber, who knows your dose, history and other medicines. Tirzepatide helps regulate appetite and slows how quickly the stomach empties.1

Many guides recommend specific over-the-counter products such as bismuth remedies, simethicone or Gaviscon. A pharmacist can tell you what is safe alongside your other medicines.

Our guide to eggy burps, the week-by-week sulphur burps guide and general Mounjaro burps advice cover the same topic from other angles.

02 · Dose

Can dose pacing help?

Discussing pace with your prescriber is the sensible step. Everyone starts on 2.5mg, and the dose can rise after at least 4 weeks, then by 2.5mg steps at minimum 4-week intervals, up to 15mg.111 Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber guides the pace.

03 · Ordering

Starting Mounjaro with support

Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and monthly reviews and side-effect support are part of our aftercare. You can start your free consultation. Every order is genuine LillyDirect supply with free next-day tracked delivery.

04 · Why timing matters

Are early weeks different?

Yes, the first weeks are an adjustment phase. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.13

There is no best time of day to inject. What matters is the same day each week. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.1

05 · When to seek advice

When to get medical advice

Contact your prescriber or GP if burps persist, worsen, or come with other symptoms that worry you. For severe or persistent stomach pain, fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes, or swelling of the face or throat with difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away.

You can report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19 If you are curious about similar complaints, see Mounjaro nasty burps.

06 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How long do Mounjaro sulphur burps last?
There is no set duration for sulphur burps. Early digestive effects after each injection usually settle, but if sulphur burps continue or bother you, tell your prescriber, who can consider holding or stepping down your dose within the licence.
Will I throw up if I have sulphur burps?
Being sick is a very common side effect of Mounjaro (it may affect more than 1 in 10 people); if you are being sick or cannot keep fluids down, contact your clinical team — dehydration needs medical help straight away. For severe, persistent stomach pain, with or without vomiting, stop using Mounjaro and get medical help straight away.
Does Gaviscon help with sulphur burps?
Ask a pharmacist whether it suits you alongside your other medicines, and tell your prescriber about any remedy you try.
Does your breath smell on Mounjaro?
Bad breath is not listed as a side effect in the UK patient leaflet, though burping is; if you notice a new or lasting symptom, discuss it with your prescriber and consider reporting it through the Yellow Card scheme.
What are the terrible side effects of Mounjaro?
The commonest early effects are mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection, which usually settle. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention: for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, pain in the upper right abdomen with fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes, or signs of a severe allergic reaction, get medical help straight away. Speak to your prescriber about anything persistent.
Can you smell weight loss?
Mounjaro works by helping regulate appetite and slowing stomach emptying, and results are judged by weight trend over months, not by smell. Discuss any new symptom with your prescriber.
Should I change my dose myself to stop the burps?
No.
