Your Mounjaro price guide · October 2026
How Often Should You Weigh Yourself on Mounjaro? (October 2026)
For most people on Mounjaro, weighing yourself once a week works well: same day, same time, same scale, same clothing. Weekly readings show a real trend without the noise of daily ups and downs. Daily weighing is not harmful, but single readings mislead and can cause needless worry. Pair the weigh-in with other measures. Guidance as of October 2026.

A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Weigh once a week, ideally the morning of your injection day, so each reading is comparable.
-
Daily weighing is a personal choice, but only the trend over several weeks means anything.
-
Weight loss on Mounjaro is rarely a straight line; plateaus and small rises do not mean treatment has failed.
-
Measurements, clothes fit, appetite and energy tell you things the scale cannot.
-
Raise stalls or worries with your prescriber rather than changing your dose or routine yourself.
In this guide
01 · The short answer
How often should you weigh yourself on Mounjaro?
Once a week suits most people. Mounjaro is a once-weekly medicine, so a weekly weigh-in fits naturally into the same routine and gives you a clean series of comparable readings.1
Your body weight moves from one day to the next depending on what you ate and drank, when you last visited the toilet and how much fluid you are carrying. Those swings are normal and tell you nothing about whether treatment is working. A weekly reading, taken in the same conditions, strips most of that noise away.
If you want a fuller walkthrough of building a routine, our weekly weigh-in routine guide goes through it step by step.
02 · Timing
When should you weigh yourself?
Pick a set day and stick with it. Many people choose their injection day, because it is easy to remember. Others prefer the morning after, so the weigh-in sits clearly apart from the injection itself. Either works; what matters is that you never change it halfway through.
On the day, use the same conditions every time:
- Weigh first thing in the morning, after using the toilet and before eating or drinking.
- Wear minimal clothing, or the same clothing, each time.
- Use the same scale on a flat, hard floor rather than carpet.
- Take the reading once, write it down and step off.
If you are unsure where your injection fits into the week, our guide to the time of day to inject Mounjaro explains how to choose a day and keep it.
03 · The daily question
Should you weigh yourself every day on Mounjaro?
You can, but most people find it unhelpful. A daily number invites you to react to noise: a higher reading after a salty meal feels like failure, and a lower one after a poor night's eating feels like a win. Neither is true.
If you do weigh daily because it keeps you accountable, treat each reading as a data point only. Look at the average over several weeks, not today's figure. If you notice the number is affecting your mood or your eating, go back to weekly or stop using the scale for a while and talk to your prescriber.

04 · Why the scale is not a straight line
Why weight loss on Mounjaro is not a straight line
Trial results are averages, and averages hide a lot of individual variation. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2
Those are trial averages, and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 Nobody in a trial lost weight at an identical pace week after week, and you should not expect to either.
That is the main reason a weekly reading is more useful than a daily one. A plateau lasting a week or so, or a small rise after a good week, is usually just variation around a longer downward trend. Judge progress over a run of weigh-ins, not a single one.
05 · Which week brings the most loss
Which week do you lose the most weight?
There is no fixed week when loss peaks, because trial results report averages over the whole treatment period rather than week-by-week figures.
Your appetite response may change as the dose changes, so early weigh-ins at the starting dose may look different from those later on.
Do not change dose timing yourself to influence the scale.
06 · What else to track
What to track besides the scale
Weight is only one signal, and sometimes not the best one. If the scale stalls, other measures often show progress it misses.
- Body measurements: waist, hips and thighs, taken monthly in the same place with the same tape.
- How clothes fit: a looser waistband is real change, whatever the scale says.
- Appetite and fullness: how soon you feel full and how much you think about food between meals.
- Energy and activity: whether movement feels easier and you are more active.
- Side effects: note nausea, constipation or reflux so you can discuss them at your review.
Photos taken monthly in the same light can also help when the number is slow to move. A free companion app, GLPTrackr, is available for iOS and Android if you want somewhere to log weight, measurements and symptoms together.
07 · When the scale stalls
What to do if the scale stalls or rises
First, check whether it is a genuine trend. A single higher reading is rarely meaningful. If several weekly readings in a row have not moved, look at your routine: are conditions on weigh-in day consistent, and has your eating, activity or sleep changed?
Remember that the medicine supports a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity rather than replacing them, and that trial averages do not predict your own result.2 Wanting to speed things up is understandable, but do not use extra doses, shortened gaps between injections or any off-label approach. Those put your safety at risk, and your prescriber can review your plan properly.
If you notice new or worrying symptoms, tell your prescriber, and you can report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
08 · Your relationship with the scale
Keeping the scale in perspective
Treatment is a long process, and the scale is only a tool. If weighing makes you anxious, preoccupied or tempted to restrict food in unhealthy ways, step back from it and speak to your prescriber or GP. Weighing less often is a perfectly sensible choice.
Some people find it helps to decide in advance what a reading will and will not change. A higher number on a given week does not change your dose, your plan or your goals. It is simply another point on the line.
Consistency matters more than precision. A slightly inaccurate scale used the same way every time still shows your trend, while a perfect scale used randomly does not. If you replace your scale, start a fresh series of readings rather than comparing old and new numbers directly.
If you are considering treatment, our weight loss clinic explains how a prescriber-led programme works.
09 · Injection routine and weigh-ins
Linking weigh-ins to your injection routine
Because the medicine is once-weekly, tying your weigh-in to the same weekly rhythm means you notice both together and rarely miss either. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system.
If you are new to injecting, read how to give yourself a Mounjaro injection and see how weekly injection timing works. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time; if more than 4 days have passed, skip it and take the next one on your normal day. You can change your injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.
Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.
