Your Mounjaro price guide · October 2026

How Many Units Is 5ml of Tirzepatide? (October 2026)

On a standard insulin syringe, units are a fixed fraction of a millilitre, so that volume converts to a very large number of units, but it is not a Mounjaro dose. UK Mounjaro comes in a KwikPen dialled in mg, not drawn up in units, and your dose is set by your prescriber. Never inject a volume because a conversion says it is possible.

Units, millilitres and milligrams

Three different measures get mixed up in this question. Units and millilitres measure volume on a syringe, while milligrams measure how much tirzepatide you actually receive.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Units measure volume on an insulin syringe, not the amount of tirzepatide. The dose in mg is what matters.
  • Mounjaro is supplied as a KwikPen with doses of 2.5mg to 15mg, so there is no syringe maths to do.
  • A volume that large is far beyond any single Mounjaro dose and should never be injected.
  • If you hold a vial from an unknown seller, stop and speak to a pharmacist or prescriber first.
  • Your prescriber sets your dose and guides the pace of any step up, which is at least 4 weeks on each dose, depending on how you respond.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Why the unit conversion is the wrong question

A unit on an insulin syringe is simply a marking for a small fraction of a millilitre. Converting any volume into units is therefore arithmetic, and the syringe scale will show you the number. But that number says nothing about how much tirzepatide is in the liquid. Strength depends on the concentration, which is printed on the label in mg per ml.

That is why a conversion alone is unsafe. The same volume could hold very different amounts of drug depending on the product. A volume as large as the one in your question is not a normal single dose of any licensed tirzepatide product. If you are asking because you have a vial and a syringe, do not draw anything up or inject it; speak to a pharmacist or prescriber first.

02 · What to do next

What you should do instead

Start from the dose in mg that your prescriber gave you. In the UK, Mounjaro is a pre-filled pen, so you dial the prescribed strength and inject as the pen's instructions show. No syringe, no drawing up and no unit conversion is involved.

If you are not yet a patient, our weight loss clinic explains how treatment works, and you can start a free consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber through the Mounjaro pen page. Current prices are £169.99 for the 2.5mg starting pen as of 11 October 2026.

03 · How Mounjaro is supplied

How Mounjaro is supplied in the UK

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Because the strength is set on the pen, nothing needs converting. For more on pen contents, see our guide on how many units in a Mounjaro pen, and for specific doses, how many units of Mounjaro applies to each strength. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen. Store unopened pens in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use, and check the leaflet for details.13

04 · Related dose questions

If you are comparing strengths, these guides each cover one case in plain language: how many units is 12.5 mg of Mounjaro, 15 mg of Mounjaro in units, 7.5 Mounjaro in units and how many units in one dose of Mounjaro.

Volume questions also come up around 3ml Mounjaro and Mounjaro 2ml. In each case the lesson is the same: the dose in mg is the figure to follow.

05 · Vials and safety

Vials, unknown sellers and safety

Questions about drawing up tirzepatide with a syringe usually come from vials sold outside a pharmacy. We only supply the licensed KwikPen through regulated routes, and we do not give instructions for drawing up from vials. Counterfeit medicines are a known risk, and the MHRA publishes alerts about them.7

Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. If you have taken a dose and feel unwell, talk to a doctor immediately. For severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away. You can also report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How many units is that much tirzepatide on a syringe?
On a standard insulin syringe, units are a fixed fraction of a millilitre, so a volume converts to units by simple arithmetic. But the number of units does not tell you the dose, because that depends on concentration. A volume this large is not a normal Mounjaro dose, so do not inject it. Check your prescription.
Do I need units to inject Mounjaro?
No. Mounjaro is supplied as a pre-filled KwikPen in strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg. You dial your prescribed strength and follow the pen's instructions. There is no drawing up or syringe measuring, so you never need to convert to units.
Is my dose measured in units or mg?
Your Mounjaro dose is measured in mg. Units and millilitres describe liquid volume on a syringe, whereas mg describes how much tirzepatide you receive. Your prescriber sets the mg dose and guides when to move up, which is at least 4 weeks on each dose, depending on how you respond.
Can I use a syringe with a Mounjaro pen?
No. The KwikPen is designed to be used as supplied, and its instructions and leaflet describe how to inject. Do not extract liquid from it. If you are unsure how to use your pen, contact our support team or your prescriber for guidance.
What should I do if my vial label does not match my prescription?
Stop and do not inject. Contact a pharmacist or your prescriber, who can check the product and the dose. Medicines from unknown sellers can be counterfeit, so tell them where it came from. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Where can I get Mounjaro safely in the UK?
Through a registered pharmacy after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. EverydayMeds is registered with the GPhC (9012878) and supplies genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply. Start on the Mounjaro pen page; your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40.
