How Long Is Tirzepatide Good for at Room Temperature? (October 2026)

Once you have started using it, a Mounjaro (tirzepatide) KwikPen can be kept at room temperature, below the limit on the label, for up to 30 days (not above 30°C), after which it should be discarded.1 Unopened pens belong in the fridge until first use. Figures from other countries' labels do not apply to UK pens.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • An in-use UK KwikPen can stay out of the fridge for up to 30 days (not above 30°C), then it should be discarded.
  • Unopened pens go in the fridge at 2–8°C and keep until the printed expiry date.
  • Never freeze a pen, and never use one that has been frozen.
  • Day limits quoted online often come from other countries' labels, so rely on the UK leaflet.
  • If an unopened pen has warmed up, check with the pharmacy before injecting.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

How long can Mounjaro stay out of the fridge?

An in-use pen can stay out of the fridge for up to 30 days (not above 30°C). Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which is useful for short trips, and must then be thrown away.1 Keep the cap on to protect it from light.13

That window is for a pen you have already started. It is not a general allowance for any pen in any condition. For a closer look at the same rule, see our guide on how long Mounjaro lasts at room temperature.

02 · What to do next

Which situation are you in?

If your pen is in use and has been kept cool, simply count the days from the first injection and discard it when the window ends. A KwikPen holds four weekly doses, so a pen used on schedule is normally finished well inside the window.1

If your pen is unopened and has been out of the fridge, do not guess. Check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit.1 If you need a replacement, you can review the Mounjaro pen and consultation options, and our weight loss clinic page explains how treatment works from the start.

03 · Unopened pens

Unopened pens: fridge first

Unopened pens should be kept in the fridge at 2–8°C and keep until the expiry date printed on the box.1 Never freeze them, and never use a pen that has been frozen.1

If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit — figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.1 That is why a number you see in a forum or a search snippet may not match your own pen's leaflet.

04 · Warm or hot pens

What if my tirzepatide got warm?

The in-use allowance applies only at a temperature not above 30°C, for up to 30 days after first use. A pen left in a hot car, in direct sun or on a radiator has gone outside the tested conditions, so sterility and potency are no longer assured.13 Do not inject from it. Contact the pharmacy that supplied it and explain how long and how warm it was.

The same caution runs the other way: hold luggage can fall below freezing, so pens travel in hand luggage.1 Our page on Mounjaro temperature covers both extremes.

05 · Does it go bad?

Does Mounjaro go bad at room temperature?

Once the in-use window has passed, a pen should be thrown away even if medicine remains.1 There is no reliable way to judge potency by eye, so the label dates matter more than appearance. Never use a pen past the printed expiry date or one that has been frozen.

Warmth does not make the medicine work better. Room temperature is simply a permitted short-term storage condition for a pen in use, which is useful for trips. Questions about injecting a cold pen are answered in our guide on whether a pen needs to warm up before injecting.

06 · Travel and refrigeration

Travelling, and going back in the fridge

In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements; for hot climates use an insulated pouch.1 Carry pens in hand luggage, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.1

Putting a pen back in the fridge does not reset the clock for the in-use window. See refrigerating Mounjaro after room temperature for detail, or leaving Mounjaro at room temp for everyday situations.

07 · Expiry and shelf life

Expiry dates and overall shelf life

Two dates matter: the expiry printed on the box for an unopened pen, and the end of the in-use window once you start. Whichever comes first decides when to stop.1 Note the first-use date on the pen or in your diary.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How long can tirzepatide be out of the fridge?
An in-use Mounjaro pen can be kept out of the fridge below the labelled temperature limit for up to 30 days (not above 30°C), then it should be discarded. For an unopened pen that has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit.
What happens if I use Mounjaro after 30 days?
After 30 days (not above 30°C) in use, the pen is outside the licensed storage window and should be discarded, even if some medicine remains.
What if my tirzepatide got warm?
If it was kept at a temperature not above 30°C, an in-use pen is fine for up to 30 days after first use. If it was exposed to heat beyond that limit, such as a hot car or direct sun, do not use it. Contact the pharmacy that supplied it for advice.
How to tell if Mounjaro has gone bad?
You cannot reliably judge potency by looking at it, so rely on dates and storage history. Discard a pen that is past its printed expiry, past its in-use window, has been frozen, or has been exposed to excessive heat. If unsure, ask the pharmacy.
What happens if you use expired tirzepatide?
Never use a pen past its printed expiry date, even if it has been stored properly. After expiry, sterility and potency are no longer assured. Dispose of it safely and use a new pen. If you have any symptoms you are worried about, speak to your prescriber.
Does tirzepatide lose potency over time?
Pens are tested to keep until the printed expiry date when unopened and stored in the fridge, and for the in-use window once started. Outside those conditions, potency is no longer assured. Always store pens as the leaflet directs and keep the cap on to protect from light.
Does Mounjaro work better at room temperature?
No. Room temperature is a permitted short-term storage condition for an in-use pen, not something that improves its effect. Follow the leaflet and keep to the same injection day each week.
