01 · The honest picture
NHS versus private: how hard is each?
The private route is the easier one, because eligibility is set by the licence rather than by NHS rollout stages. The NHS route is harder mainly because of phasing. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
| Route | Who it suits | Main hurdle |
|---|---|---|
| NHS | Highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions) | Phased rollout over several years |
| Private | Adults meeting the licensed criteria (BMI 30+, or 27–30 with a weight-related condition) | Passing a prescriber's suitability review |
02 · Private route
What the private process involves
You complete a short health questionnaire, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. The consultation is free, with no obligation, and the price shown is the price paid. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
Once approved, the Mounjaro pen is dispensed by our registered pharmacy. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Our Mounjaro is supplied through official LillyDirect supply, so you receive genuine KwikPens.
Cost: your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). Every later order is £25 off the standard price, with code DOSE25. All six doses are in stock. When you are ready, you can start your free consultation.
03 · Who qualifies privately
Who is eligible for a private prescription?
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Examples include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1
A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.11 So the real difficulty is clinical suitability, not paperwork. Conditions are covered in our pages on prediabetes and PCOS, and on getting Mounjaro without diabetes.
04 · What it is and how it works
What you are being prescribed
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1
Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.2 This dual action distinguishes it from single-action medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).
05 · What to expect from results
What results look like in trials
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. If you want to compare the wider picture, see how hard it is to get weight loss drugs generally.
06 · Ongoing support and cost
Support after approval
Ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments are carried out by the prescribing team, with side-effect support. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically. There are no subscriptions, and you can pay by Visa/Mastercard, Klarna or pay-monthly options. Support is available Monday–Friday 9am–5pm on 0333 207 0413. For the full picture of buying, see buy Mounjaro, or compare all weight loss treatments.
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
