A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The pen dial will not turn past the medicine left inside, so a pen cannot be made to deliver more than it was built to.
  • An in-use pen is discarded after 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge, whatever is left in it.
  • Real savings come from first-order and reorder discounts and from planning your costs in advance.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Is there a safe way to hack a Mounjaro pen?

No, there is not. The Mounjaro KwikPen is a prescription-only pen that contains four weekly doses, and it is set by turning the dose knob until the correct dose shows in the window.13

A pen cannot be "unlocked" to give more than it holds, and a leftover amount that cannot make up a full dose is not a dose. Online threads sometimes describe pulling the remainder out with a syringe. Drawing out a remainder is outside the licence and the pen is not designed for it. Altering doses outside the licence means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.

02 · What to do next

The two decisions you are really facing

The first is cost. Treatment is a monthly expense, and cost is the usual reason people look for shortcuts. A better route is to plan the cost properly. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). You can see current doses and prices on the Mounjaro pen page, and if you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices before those discounts.

The second is a practical problem: a stiff dial, a leftover amount, a damaged pen or a pen that has been out of the fridge. Those are genuine questions with proper answers, and a hack is the wrong tool. Our guides on how to unjam a Mounjaro pen and what to do with a broken Mounjaro pen cover the common cases, and your pharmacy can replace a faulty item.

03 · What is at stake

Why we do not support pen hacks

The risks sit in two places. Dose accuracy is the first, because the pen delivers a dose by its dial and window, not by guesswork. Missing clinical oversight is the second, because your prescriber sets your dose from how you respond and tolerate treatment, and a hacked dose breaks that feedback loop.

Tirzepatide also stays in the body for a long time, which means a dosing error does not wear off quickly. It has a half-life of about five days, and after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system.1 Do not alter how you use a pen; if you have concerns about your dose, speak to your prescriber. Starting with a weight loss clinic consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber is the right way to adjust a plan.

04 · How the pen is built

How the KwikPen is designed to work

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

The word that matters in that description is "multi-dose". A KwikPen is not a single-use device and it is not a vial. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses, and the pen is engineered around that fact.13 You set the dose by turning the dose knob until the dose indicator shows the correct dose in the window.

This is why so many hacks collapse on contact with the real device. People often ask about clicks, about forcing the knob or about reading the pen differently. The window is the instruction.

The pen also has a built-in stop. That is a safeguard, not a flaw to be bypassed. It means the last dose in the pen is the last dose, and any small amount of liquid left beyond that is not a usable dose.13

If you want to understand the dial more fully, our guide to Mounjaro measurements explains how doses, strengths and the window relate. Each strength is a different pen, with its own fixed dose, so you do not mix strengths or build one dose from another.

Finally, the pen is meant to be used as supplied. Taking it apart, piercing it or drawing liquid out of it alters a sterile, tested device. We do not describe how, because there is no safe version of it. If your pen is not working as expected, the answer is to contact the pharmacy that supplied it, not to open it up.

05 · The leftover and extra dose idea

The leftover and extra-dose idea, explained honestly

The pen is built to deliver its four weekly doses and no more. A partial amount is not a licensed dose. You cannot read it accurately and you cannot top it up from another pen.

Why would anyone want to? The motive is almost always cost. A pen is a month of treatment, and squeezing out a little more feels like a saving. But the saving is small compared with the risk. An unmeasured dose can leave you under-treated, or it can give you more than you intended if you combine remnants. Neither is predictable, and there is no safety data for improvised dosing.1

There is also a practical point about timing. Mounjaro is taken on the same day each week. A dose built from scraps often leads to mistimed injections, which then collide with the missed-dose rules. If you miss a dose, you take it as soon as you can within four days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than four days have passed, you skip it and take the next one on your normal day. You never take two doses within three days of each other.1 A leftover "bonus" injection can easily break that rule.

Our position is the same as the product information: the licensed dose ladder is the only supported way to dose. If cost is the pressure, there are better levers. If you are unsure whether your pen has the right amount, contact the pharmacy rather than testing it yourself.

06 · Storage and the 30-day rule

Storage, the 30-day rule and why pens cannot be stretched

A pen cannot be made to last longer, because it has a use-by window as well as a dose count. Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, useful for short trips, after which it should be discarded.1 Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.1

After 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge once in use, the pen should be discarded, even if it looks like it has something left.

A pen cannot be stretched past this window, and trying risks injecting medicine that is outside the tested window, where sterility and potency are no longer assured.

Unopened pens are different. Unopened pens should be kept in the fridge and keep until the expiry date printed on the box.1 If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels, so do not trust a number from a forum over the UK leaflet.

If you travel, you can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.1 For preparing a pen safely, see our guide to preparing a Mounjaro pen.

07 · Selling, sharing and unused pens

Selling, sharing and what to do with unused pens

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.1 It is prescribed for one named person, based on their health, their dose and their response. That is why selling or passing on a pen is something we cannot support, whatever the reason.

The honest, practical answer is that prescription medicines are meant for the person they were prescribed for, and you should not hand them to other people or sell them. A buyer cannot know how the pen was stored, whether it has been tampered with or whether it is genuine. If you are unsure of the rules for a specific item, ask a pharmacist.

This also applies to friends and family. Another person might be on a different dose, take other medicines or have a health condition that makes the pen unsuitable. Our guide to sharing a Mounjaro pen explains why this is unsafe, even between people who trust each other.

Counterfeits are a real concern. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting problems.7 Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, and anyone selling "hacked" or "modified" pens. Buy only from a registered pharmacy. We are GPhC-registered (9012878), and our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, which means genuine KwikPens from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

So what should you do with unused pens? If a pen is unopened, keep it in the fridge until the printed expiry date, and contact your prescriber if your dose or plan changes. If a pen is in use beyond its window, or you no longer need it, do not keep it for later. Used pens and needles go in a sharps bin, and our page on Mounjaro pen recycling explains disposal. Ask your pharmacy about returning medicines you no longer need.

08 · Legitimate ways to lower cost

Legitimate ways to lower the cost of treatment

The first is discounts. A new-customer discount applies to first orders at any dose, and a reorder discount applies to every future order. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and if you are switching to us at a higher dose, your first 15mg order is £289.99. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25).

The second is planning. At standard prices, if you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. Those totals are before discounts: a new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less. Knowing the figure in advance is more useful than any workaround. Prices were checked 12 October 2026.

The third is paying in a way that suits you. We offer Visa and Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options, with no subscriptions. Repeat orders re-check suitability and there is no auto-shipping, so you stay in control of when you order.

The fourth is the NHS. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

You can compare current prices on the Mounjaro pen page.

09 · Realistic expectations

Realistic expectations: why stretching does not pay off

Part of the pull of a hack is impatience. People want faster results or a cheaper route to them, and both are the wrong frame for this medicine. Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

Outside the licensed doses, the published results stop being relevant to you.

The early weeks are also variable. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.

Treatment response is reviewed by your prescriber. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you. That review is the proper mechanism for changing course. If you feel the medicine is not working, tell the prescribing team. Our aftercare includes monthly reviews, dose titration and side-effect support, so you do not have to improvise alone.

10 · Safe habits that replace hacks

Safe habits that replace the hacks

If you worry about wasting medicine, inject on the same day each week. Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, at any time of day, with or without food. There is no best time of day: it works the same morning or evening. What matters is the same day each week. Pick a day and time you will remember, and many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.1 A steady routine means fewer missed doses and fewer anxious decisions about leftovers.

If you need to move your day, you can change your weekly injection day as long as at least three days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1 That is a legitimate, flexible tool and removes the temptation to improvise.

Use the licensed sites and rotate them. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.1 Our orders include needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance.

Keep the pen cap on, store the pen correctly and respect the in-use window. If a dial sticks, do not force it. Look at our pages on unjamming a pen or contact the pharmacy, because force can damage the pen and the dose.

If you notice a new symptom, speak to your prescriber, and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Do not rely on online posts as evidence of what a medicine does or does not do.

Finally, avoid chasing the next trick. The reliable habits are boring ones: the right dose, the same day, proper storage, diet and activity, and regular reviews. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you unlock a Mounjaro pen?
A Mounjaro KwikPen has no lock to open, and it should not be forced. If the dial is stiff or stuck, do not force it.
How to disguise a Mounjaro pen?
The safe way to be discreet is to keep the pen in its carton or a small cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription, rather than removing paperwork. Carry pens in hand luggage when flying, because hold luggage can fall below freezing. Our deliveries use discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Keep the cap on to protect the pen from light, and store it correctly: in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use.
How to make a Mounjaro pen last longer?
You cannot safely make a pen last longer. Each pen contains four weekly doses, and once in use it can be kept not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. Trying to stretch it means injecting medicine outside the tested window, where sterility and potency are no longer assured. To manage cost, use the new-customer and reorder discounts and plan your spending in advance instead.
Can I use the leftover Mounjaro in my pen?
No. Do not draw out the remainder or combine it with another pen. Discard the pen safely in a sharps bin, and ask the pharmacy if you think it is faulty.
Can I use half of my Mounjaro pen?
No. A half-pen is not a licensed way to use Mounjaro. Talk to your prescriber or pharmacy rather than dividing a pen yourself.
Can I sell my unused Mounjaro?
We cannot support selling or passing on Mounjaro. It is a prescription-only medicine, supplied after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber for one named person. A buyer cannot know how the pen was stored or whether it is genuine, and it may be unsuitable for them. If you no longer need a pen, ask your pharmacy about returning it, and use a sharps bin for used pens and needles.
What to do with unused Mounjaro pens?
Keep unopened pens in the fridge at 2–8°C until the expiry date printed on the box, and never freeze them. If your plan or dose changes, tell your prescriber before the next order. If a pen has passed its in-use window or you no longer need it, do not keep it for later. Dispose of it through a sharps bin and check pen recycling guidance, or ask your pharmacy how to return medicines.
What happens to Mounjaro after 30 days?
Once a pen is in use, it can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days. After that it should be discarded, even if some liquid seems left, because sterility and potency are outside the tested window and no longer assured. Unopened pens are different: they stay in the fridge and keep until the expiry date printed on the box. If an unopened pen has been left out, check with the pharmacy before using it.
Is it illegal to sell diabetic supplies?
We are a pharmacy, not a legal adviser, but the safe position is clear: prescription medicines such as Mounjaro are for the person they were prescribed for, and should not be sold or shared. Pens that leave the supply chain cannot be checked for storage or authenticity. Needles and sharps bins are a separate matter, so for a specific item ask a pharmacist. For any Mounjaro you no longer need, return or dispose of it properly.
Is there any legitimate Mounjaro hack to save money?
The legitimate savings are discounts and planning, not pen tricks. A new customer's first order carries the first-order discount with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price. NHS access is being phased in over several years, so check with your GP whether you qualify.
