GOP Injection for Weight Loss: What It Means (October 2026)

"GOP" is not a licensed weight loss injection. It is usually a mishearing of GLP-1, the hormone pathway targeted by jabs such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide), a once-weekly prescription pen. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial, adults on 15mg lost 20.9% of their body weight on average over 72 weeks; individual results vary.2 Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). 01 · Cost and ordering

What a GLP-1 weight loss jab costs in the UK and how to get one

The weight loss pen we supply is the Mounjaro KwikPen, and one pen is four weekly doses, so every price here is per month. A first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40, against a standard price of £169.99. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). Switching to us at a higher dose? Your first 15mg order is £289.99, and the new-customer discount works on any dose.

All six doses are in stock, so you are not forced to restart at a low dose. Doses run from 2.5mg to 15mg, with the standard price at each step in the table. These are the prices before any discount.

DoseStandard price per month (one pen)Per week

7.5mg£279.99£70.00

02 · Year planning

Planning the cost over four pens and a year

The first four pens (2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg and 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A first year of 52 weeks (13 pens) costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, and up to £3,599.88 if you settle at 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less than these figures assume, and every later order is £25 less.

If you settle at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg, work from the monthly prices of £279.99, £290.99 and £319.99. Higher is not automatically better: many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg depending on response and tolerance.1

03 · Market context

How that compares with other UK providers

Across the UK pharmacies we track, a Mounjaro pen ranged from £143.96 to £339.00 per month across all doses (checked 10 October 2026). The 2.5mg starting pen ranged from £143.96 to £179.99. For the same dose, the gap between providers ran from £27 to £41. Boots' Mounjaro dose prices ran from £179.00 to £339.00 per month.

For Wegovy, a first pen costs £99.99 as a first-order price. Wegovy is a different medicine with its own dose ladder. Check availability at the time of order.

04 · Ordering

How ordering works in three steps

Ordering takes three steps, and the consultation is free with no obligation. The price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees.

  • Start your free consultation. Complete a short health questionnaire through our free online consultation. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Prescriber review. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. If an order is unsuitable it is refunded automatically.
  • Dispatch and delivery. Our registered pharmacy dispenses your pen. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day, with free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order. Repeat orders re-check suitability and nothing ships automatically, so there is no subscription to cancel. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options. Our pen is supplied through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0333 207 0413 or at support@everydaymeds.co.uk.

If you want to see the wider range first, our weight loss treatments page sets out the options we supply.

05 · What GOP means

What "GOP" means: GLP-1 jabs explained

The phrase is almost certainly a mishearing or autocorrect of GLP-1. That abbreviation refers to a natural gut hormone, and to medicines that act on its receptor. If you were told about a "GOP jab" by a friend, a clip or a salon, ask them for the exact product name and active ingredient before you consider buying anything.

Mounjaro is a GLP-1 weight loss pen available in the UK. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Is GLP-1 the same as Mounjaro? Not exactly. GLP-1 describes a hormone pathway and a group of medicines. Mounjaro is one specific medicine that activates GLP-1 receptors and a second one, GIP, at the same time. Semaglutide, sold as Wegovy for weight management and Ozempic for diabetes, is another GLP-1 medicine, though it acts on a single pathway.1

Pages on our site cover several of them, including the retinol weight loss injection, the forskolin injection and the "M" injection. Our site also has guides to the Majorna injection, the Fitaro injection and the Retro weight loss injection. Each deserves a check against the UK medicines register and a conversation with a prescriber. Not every name you see online corresponds to a regulated product.

A simple test applies to any weight loss jab. Is it a licensed medicine? Is it supplied by a pharmacy you can find on the GPhC register? Does a prescriber review you first? If the answer to any is no, walk away. Our registration number is 9012878 and anyone can verify it on the GPhC public register.12

For a wider overview of what is available, our hub on weight loss injections compares the main options in plain English.

06 · How it works

How GLP-1 and Mounjaro work on appetite

GLP-1 weight loss jabs work by changing appetite signals, not by burning fat directly. Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1

In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. That last point matters. The medicine makes eating less easier, but it is licensed for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not as a replacement for them.1

This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic).1 Both are licensed treatments, and the right choice depends on your health, your tolerance and what a prescriber judges suitable.

The way these pens are built also shapes the experience. Mounjaro is taken once a week, on the same day each week. Liraglutide products such as Saxenda are daily injections, so the weekly schedule is a real difference in day-to-day routine.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1

Because the medicine slows stomach emptying, many people notice their eating pattern changing within the first weeks.

07 · Do they work

Do GLP-1 injections actually work?

Yes, in clinical trials tirzepatide produced large average weight losses alongside diet and exercise. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks. People using lifestyle changes alone lost 3.1%.2

These are trial averages, and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them. Trial averages do not predict your own result.2

The same trial reports how many people reached specific thresholds. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

To make the percentages concrete, here is a worked example. For someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg, and 15% is about 15 kg. Those are straight arithmetic on the trial averages, not a prediction or a timetable for any individual.

What pace to expect

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. The trial measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend rather than individual weigh-ins.1

Experiences in the first weeks differ widely. Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in.1

When a prescriber steps in

Treatment response is reviewed by your prescriber. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.1 Our ongoing monthly reviews are built around that kind of check, and the free GLPTrackr app helps you log doses and progress between them.

Be wary of any product, whatever it is called, that promises dramatic weight-loss claims without a prescriber, a licence or a trial behind it.

08 · Who it is for

Who can take GLP-1 injections, and who should not

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Qualifying conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

That answers who it is for. You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you.1 Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.13

What the consultation covers

Our consultation is a short health questionnaire, free and with no obligation. It is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Be complete and accurate about your health, your regular medicines and anything you have been told by a doctor. The prescriber can only judge what they are shown.

Who is outside the licence

Someone with a BMI below 27, or with a BMI between 27 and 30 and no weight-related condition, falls outside the licensed criteria. A GLP-1 jab is not a shortcut for a few pounds. If you are not sure whether you qualify, the consultation is the right place to find out, and you are under no obligation to proceed.

Medicines you already take

Tell the prescriber about every medicine you use, including anything for diabetes. The prescriber reviews your current medicines before deciding whether treatment is suitable.1 Do not change or stop an existing prescription yourself on the strength of something you read online. Raise it in the consultation, or with your GP or pharmacist, so any adjustment is made safely.

Eligibility is the same whatever name a product goes by. The guide to getting a weight loss injection in the UK walks through what to expect from the process, step by step.

09 · NHS or private

NHS or private: how to access a GLP-1 jab in the UK

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially people with a BMI of 40 or above and four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.6 The NHS route is a good first call if you are in a higher-need group. Your GP is the person to ask whether you are likely to be eligible in your area, and the NHS guide to tirzepatide is also a useful starting point.5

The two are not mutually exclusive in principle, but you should tell any clinician involved in your care about every treatment you use. Never take two supplies of the same medicine at once.

NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP about it.

What private treatment should look like

A regulated private service should be a registered pharmacy, should assess you before supplying, and should offer follow-up. We are GPhC-registered (9012878), supply through official LillyDirect supply, and include monthly reviews. If you are comparing providers, our guides to buying a weight loss injection in the UK and to weight loss injections in stock explain what to check before you pay anyone.

10 · Dose ladder

The Mounjaro dose ladder and how titration works

Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself.1 It is the reason the first pens often feel unremarkable, and it is why patience in the first month matters.

After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg. It can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1 Each pen holds four weekly doses, so a step up normally means a new pen at the next strength.

Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace.1 If side effects are troublesome, a prescriber can hold you on a dose for longer rather than pushing on.

Putting it together

PhaseWhat happensCost at standard prices
Weeks 1 to 42.5mg starting dose, adjustment phase£169.99
First year, settling at 5mg13 pens over 52 weeks£2,711.88
First year, settling at 15mg13 pens over 52 weeks£3,599.88

A new customer's first order is £40 less than these standard figures, and every later order is £25 less.

The Wegovy ladder is different: 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once weekly, stepping up after at least 4 weeks and reaching the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18 Never mix up the strengths of different medicines.

11 · How to inject

How to inject a weekly GLP-1 pen

Mounjaro is injected under the skin (subcutaneously) once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.1 It is a small injection from a pen, and most people find the routine becomes automatic within a few weeks. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order.

Where to inject

Licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.1 Follow the pen's instructions for how to hold and release it, as the exact steps are in the leaflet.13

Choosing your day and time

There is no "best" time of day. Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food. What matters is the same day each week. Pick a day and time you will remember. Many people choose a weekend morning so early side effects fall on days off.1

If you miss a dose

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other.1

Changing your injection day

You can change your weekly injection day if needed, as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1 This is handy if your routine changes, for example around a holiday or shift pattern.

If anything about the pen looks wrong, such as a window that will not turn properly, do not improvise. Contact our support team on 0333 207 0413, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. If a pen arrives faulty, damaged or the wrong item, contact us within 3 days.

12 · Storage and travel

Storing and travelling with your pen

Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2 to 8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, which is useful for short trips, after which it should be discarded. Keep the pen cap on to protect it from light, and never use a pen that has been frozen.1

Our pens arrive in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging by free next-day tracked delivery. Unpack and refrigerate them when they arrive, rather than leaving the parcel on a warm doorstep or in a car.

Unopened pens

Unopened pens should be kept in the fridge and keep until the expiry date printed on the box. If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.1 The patient information leaflet is the other place to check.13

Flying and holidays

You can fly with Mounjaro. Carry pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing. Ideally use a cool bag, and carry the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.1 In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need no special arrangements. For hot climates use an insulated pouch. Check destination rules for travelling with prescription injectables before you fly.

A simple storage routine

  • Fridge for pens you have not started, between 2 and 8°C.
  • Cap on after every use, to protect from light.
  • Note the date you first used a pen, so you can discard it after 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge.
  • Never freeze a pen, and never use one that has frozen.

Planning around a trip is easier with a tracking tool. The free GLPTrackr companion app (iOS and Android) lets you log doses and keep an eye on your injection day, which helps if you are changing time zones. Remember that if you change your day, at least 3 days must separate two doses.

13 · Safety and scams

Side effects, safety and spotting scams

The commonest early side effects are mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection, and these usually settle.1 The complete list, including rarer effects and when to seek urgent help, is in the Patient Information Leaflet in every box.13

Taking the injection on a weekend morning, as many people choose, means the early effects fall on days off. If effects are troublesome, tell your prescriber.

Reporting problems

If you notice a new symptom, discuss it with your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme. Reporting helps regulators monitor medicines, and you can do it yourself as a patient.19

Counterfeits and unregulated sellers

Weight loss pens are a target for counterfeiters and unregulated sellers. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme.7 Warning signs include:

  • a seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription;
  • a product with no recognisable brand, no leaflet or no batch details;
  • a name you cannot find in the UK medicines information;
  • dramatic weight-loss claims presented as certain.

Check any pharmacy against the GPhC register. Ours is 9012878.12 We supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, and the price shown is the price paid.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

14 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What is a GOP weight loss injection?
"GOP" is not a licensed medicine, so there is no GOP weight loss injection to buy. The phrase is almost certainly a mishearing of GLP-1, the gut-hormone pathway targeted by prescription pens such as Mounjaro (tirzepatide). If someone offers you a product by the name "GOP", ask for the exact active ingredient and check it with a pharmacist before spending anything. A regulated service will always require a consultation reviewed by a prescriber first.
Is GLP-1 the same as Mounjaro?
No. GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone and the name of a medicine group, while Mounjaro is one specific medicine, tirzepatide. Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1, which distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic). Both types help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties. Which suits you is a decision for a prescriber, who will review your health and medicines.
Do GLP-1 injections actually work?
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, against 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Those are trial averages and individual results vary. Treatment is used with a reduced-calorie diet and more activity, and progress is gradual, so think in months rather than days.
Who should not take GLP-1 injections?
You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation. Be complete and accurate in your consultation, and ask your prescriber about any concern before starting.
Are GLP-1 injections legal in the UK?
Yes, when they are licensed prescription medicines supplied properly. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, and is prescription-only. It should be supplied only after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, by a pharmacy on the GPhC register. Sellers offering to supply without a consultation or prescription are a red flag, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.
What are the common side effects of taking GLP-1 medication?
For Mounjaro, the commonest early effects are mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection, and these usually settle. Many people inject on a weekend morning so early effects fall on days off. The full list of side effects and when to seek urgent help is in the patient information leaflet. If you notice a new symptom, speak to your prescriber and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
Can you buy Ozempic at Boots?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes only, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss. For Mounjaro, Boots' dose prices ran from £179.00 to £339.00 per month in the UK pharmacies we track, checked 10 October 2026. Whatever you choose, any GLP-1 pen should be prescription-only and supplied after a prescriber review. Our own Mounjaro prices are shown live on the Mounjaro product page.
How much is a 3 month supply of Ozempic?
Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes only, and a regulated UK pharmacy will not supply it for weight loss. For the weight loss pen we do supply, one Mounjaro pen is four weekly doses, so three months is three pens. If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first three pens are 2.5mg, 5mg and 7.5mg, at standard prices of £169.99, £218.99 and £279.99. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less. Prices checked 10 October 2026.
Is a GLP-1 oral liquid available at Boots?
There is no oral liquid or tablet form of Mounjaro; tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK. Mounjaro is a once-weekly pen, while liraglutide products are daily injections. Tablets exist for some GLP-1 medicines; see current options on our weight loss treatments page. Be cautious of any oral liquid sold as a GLP-1 without a prescriber's review, and check the seller on the GPhC register.
