Glutathione Injections for Weight Loss: What the UK Evidence Supports (October 2026)
Glutathione injections are not a licensed weight-loss treatment in the UK; a licensed injectable for weight management is tirzepatide (Mounjaro), where trial averages reached 20.9% body weight loss on 15mg over 72 weeks in SURMOUNT-1, and individual results vary.2 A first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Weight loss claims for glutathione shots are marketing, not licensed medicine; ask any clinic what licence and trial data sit behind the claim.
-
Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management; SURMOUNT-1 averages were 15% on 5mg and 20.9% on 15mg at 72 weeks, results vary.
-
Your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40; every later order is £25 off the standard price.
-
Any new symptom after an injection should go to a prescriber, and side effects can be reported through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide
01 · The honest answer
Do glutathione injections work for weight loss?
There is no licence or published trial data showing that they do. Anyone quoting dramatic weight-loss claims for glutathione shots should be able to show you a licence and published trial data for that use. If they cannot, treat the claim as marketing.
This is a different position from licensed medicines. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Its results come from large published trials, and a prescriber reviews each patient before supplying it.
We are a GPhC-registered online pharmacy (registration 9012878). If you want a broader view of what exists, our weight loss injections guide compares the injectable options in plain terms.
02 · Judging a clinic
Questions to ask before paying for any weight-loss shot
The right questions separate regulated care from a beauty-salon sales pitch. Use this checklist with any provider, including us.
| Question | What a good answer looks like |
|---|---|
| Is the product licensed for weight loss in the UK? | A named licence and a product leaflet you can read |
| Who reviews me before I am treated? | A registered prescriber who checks your history and medicines |
| What published trial supports the result? | A named trial and journal, with averages explained |
| What happens if I have a side effect? | A named contact and Yellow Card reporting |
| Is the pharmacy on the GPhC register? | A registration number you can look up on the GPhC register |
Generic wellness injections often fail the first three questions. Licensed weight management does not.
03 · What we do supply
The licensed alternative: Mounjaro
Mounjaro is a once-weekly pen containing tirzepatide, made by Eli Lilly, in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 It activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite, slow stomach emptying and improve the body's response to insulin.1 Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.
Your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). All six doses are in stock. A new customer's first order at any dose is £40 less, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). Switching from another provider at 15mg? Your first order is £289.99.
If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg, again before discounts. Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens ranged from £143.96 to £339.00 per month as of 11 October 2026.
04 · Getting started
How ordering works
Ordering is three steps, and the consultation costs nothing.
- Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, no charge, no obligation. Start your free consultation.
- Prescriber review: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
- Dispatch and delivery: same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.
Our supply comes from official LillyDirect channels, meaning genuine KwikPens direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution. Monthly clinical reviews are included, and you can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna with no subscription.
05 · Why the claims spread
Why glutathione weight-loss claims spread online
Glutathione shots are promoted because "weight loss injection" is a high-demand phrase and many people cannot get licensed treatment quickly. Clinics and influencers attach whatever product they sell to the phrase. That does not make the product a weight-loss medicine.
Compare this with a licensed medicine, where the manufacturer must submit trial data, the product has a published leaflet, and the regulator monitors safety. Other "injection" trends follow the same pattern. If you have seen them, our pages on the H2 injection, the adenosine injection and amp injections apply the same test to each one.
06 · Other injection trends
Other injections marketed for weight loss
Glutathione is one of several products sold under a weight-loss label without a licence for that use.
- Mesotherapy injections and the shorter-named meso injection are local skin treatments, not a systemic weight-management medicine.
- The retinal injection trend is another example of a name borrowed from another field.
- Humira is a licensed medicine, but for other conditions, and it is not a weight-loss treatment.
For each of these, the question is the same: which regulator licensed it for weight management, and where is the trial?
07 · What Mounjaro trials show
What licensed treatment achieved in trials
In SURMOUNT-1, a trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight.2 Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20%.2
08 · Realistic pace
How quickly licensed treatment works
Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design, so think in months, not days. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward.1 Trials measured results at 72 weeks, and progress is best judged by trend rather than individual weigh-ins.2
Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose. Both are normal. Early loss includes water weight. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.1
Your prescriber reviews response. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, they will discuss whether to continue, adjust or stop.1
09 · Dose ladder and eligibility
Who can use Mounjaro and how doses step up
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.
Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least 4 weeks it rises to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at minimum 4-week intervals to a maximum of 15mg weekly.1 Many people settle at 5mg, 10mg or 15mg. Higher is not automatically better.
The standard price of each pen is £169.99 at 2.5mg, £218.99 at 5mg, £279.99 at 7.5mg, £290.99 at 10mg, £319.99 at 12.5mg and £329.99 at 15mg.
10 · NHS access
NHS access to licensed weight-loss injections
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6
Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Compare options in our weight loss treatments overview, or see how we approach buying injections in the UK and comparing Mounjaro prices.
11 · Safety and fakes
Safety: new symptoms and counterfeit products
If you take any injection and notice a new symptom, speak to your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19 Reporting helps the regulator spot problems, and it is available to patients as well as professionals.
Counterfeit and unlicensed injectables are a real risk where products are sold outside regulated pharmacies. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7 Be wary of anyone offering to supply a prescription medicine without a consultation or prescription. Check that a pharmacy appears on the GPhC register before you buy.
12 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
