A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Real GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only, so any chemist supplying them must review you first.
  • Check the pharmacy on the GPhC public register before you pay anything.
  • No over-the-counter pill or supplement is a licensed GLP-1 medicine.
  • Mounjaro is a once-weekly pen; the first 2.5mg pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40.
  • NHS access is being phased in over several years, so many adults look at regulated private supply.
In this guide

01 · Choosing a pharmacy

What to look for in a GLP-1 chemist

A trustworthy GLP-1 chemist is listed on the GPhC register and asks health questions before supplying. You can confirm any pharmacy on the GPhC public register12. Ours is listed under 9012878.

If a seller fails any row, walk away. Counterfeit weight-loss pens have been the subject of MHRA alerts, and you can report suspect products or side effects through the Yellow Card scheme7.

02 · The medicines

What a chemist can actually supply

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 You can see current prices and start a free consultation on the Mounjaro pen page. Wegovy is also available as a Wegovy pen.

Our wider approach to treatment is set out in our weight loss clinic guide. For the high-street angle, read about a Mounjaro chemist.

03 · High street or online

High street or online chemist

Both routes are legitimate if the pharmacy is registered and a prescriber reviews you. High-street chains offer face-to-face private consultations in some branches. Online pharmacies carry out the review remotely and deliver to your door.

With us the journey is a free online consultation, a review by a GPhC-registered prescriber, dispensing by our registered pharmacy, then free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Same-day dispatch applies when you order by 3pm. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

04 · Pills and supplements

GLP-1 pills and over-the-counter options

Yes, prescription GLP-1 tablets exist in the UK, including Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, but they are prescription-only like the injections.2021 Which one suits you is a prescriber's decision, not something to pick from a shelf.

No over-the-counter pill is a licensed GLP-1 medicine. Products marketed as "nature's Ozempic" are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and their dosing is not standardised. They are not an established substitute for licensed treatment, and dramatic weight-loss claims on them should make you cautious. Even a drink or recipe labelled as GLP-1 friendly, such as GLP-1 smoothies, is food, not medicine.

We also cover whether pramlintide is a GLP-1.

05 · What results to expect

What results to expect

Results depend on the dose, your diet and your activity, and no pharmacy can promise a specific outcome. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

Your prescriber reviews progress during monthly check-ins.

06 · NHS or private

NHS or private supply

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years.6 NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. The NHS prescription charge in England, £9.90, does not apply to private supply, which is paid for at the price shown.

07 · Who should not take it

Who cannot take a GLP-1 medicine

Whether a GLP-1 medicine is safe for you is decided by a prescriber, based on your health history and current medicines. You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Be open about conditions and other medicines in your consultation. If a seller does not ask, that is a red flag.

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can you get GLP-1 pills in the UK?
Yes. Prescription GLP-1 tablets such as Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are licensed in the UK, but they are prescription-only and need a prescriber's review. Injectable options like Mounjaro are also available.
Who cannot take GLP-1?
You should not take Mounjaro if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during your consultation, including pregnancy plans. If you are unsure, ask the prescribing team before ordering.
Can you get GLP-1 as a prescription?
Yes. GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only. You can get one through your NHS service, where access is being phased in, or privately through a registered pharmacy after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Our consultation is free, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.
Where can I buy a GLP-1?
Buy only from a pharmacy listed on the GPhC register, on the high street or online. EverydayMeds is registered (9012878) and supplies genuine Mounjaro KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply after a prescriber-reviewed consultation. Avoid any seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.
What is the best thing over the counter for weight loss?
No over-the-counter product is a licensed GLP-1 medicine or an established equivalent. Supplements are low-cost with no clinical oversight, and their dosing is not standardised. A balanced reduced-calorie diet and regular activity remain the foundation, and a pharmacist or prescriber can discuss licensed options.
Which tablet is best for rapid weight loss?
No tablet is best for rapid weight loss; no licensed medicine is best for everyone. Licensed options are chosen by a prescriber based on your health, and all work alongside diet and activity. Be wary of products making dramatic weight-loss claims; results vary between individuals.
How long does Mounjaro stay in your system?
Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Speak to your prescriber if you have concerns.
