A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Psoriasis is not a licensed use of Mounjaro or other GLP-1 medicines in the UK.
  • Research into GLP-1 drugs and skin disease is ongoing; treat headline percentages in news stories with caution.
  • Never stop or change psoriasis treatment without your dermatologist or GP.
  • If you have psoriasis and also want weight management, tell both your prescriber and your skin specialist.
  • Report any new skin change after starting a medicine through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Does GLP-1 help with psoriasis?

No GLP-1 medicine is licensed to treat psoriasis in the UK, so it cannot be prescribed for that purpose.

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Its licensed effect is on appetite, stomach emptying and insulin response. Whether that has knock-on effects for skin is a separate question that research has not settled.

Our related guides go further: see whether Mounjaro helps psoriasis in the UK and how Mounjaro and psoriasis may interact.

02 · Your decision

What should you do if you have psoriasis and want weight loss treatment?

Tell every clinician involved. Your dermatologist or GP manages psoriasis. A prescriber reviewing a weight-loss order needs your full medicine list, including any creams, tablets or injections for your skin.

If you meet the licensed criteria and want to explore private treatment, the Mounjaro pen starts at a standard £169.99 for the 2.5mg starter pen. A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every consultation, and it is free. Our weight loss clinic explains the process.

03 · What the research can tell you

What the research does and does not show

Studies of GLP-1 drugs in psoriasis are mostly small, observational or early-stage, and they often involve people who also have diabetes or obesity. That makes it hard to separate an effect on skin from the effect of weight loss.

The best-documented effect of tirzepatide is on weight. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 That trial did not study psoriasis, so these results say nothing about skin outcomes.

Treat any claim of dramatic skin clearance from a weight-loss injection with scepticism. Trial averages do not predict your own result.

04 · Weight and psoriasis care

Where weight management fits alongside psoriasis care

Weight management is a reasonable topic to raise with your dermatology team, because they look at your overall health, not only your skin. Any weight-loss medicine is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 It is an addition to your existing care, never a replacement for your psoriasis treatment.

Do not stop biologics, topical treatments or tablets because you have started a GLP-1 medicine. Equally, do not start one hoping it will replace them. If your skin changes at any point, tell your specialist team.

Our guide to weekly treatment expectations with Mounjaro and psoriasis covers what to monitor week to week.

05 · Understanding GLP-1 medicines

Which GLP-1 medicines exist in the UK?

The class includes semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic), liraglutide and tirzepatide. Liraglutide, including Saxenda, is supplied at a concentration of 6mg/ml and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 You can also compare the Wegovy pen if you are weighing options.

06 · Side effects and reporting

What if your skin changes after starting treatment?

Tell your prescriber and your dermatologist about any new or worsening skin symptom. Check the patient information leaflet for the listed side effects of your medicine.13

You can report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Do not self-diagnose from forums or social media.

07 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

08 · Seeing a prescriber

How a prescriber review works for people with skin conditions

Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Unsuitable orders are refunded automatically. List your psoriasis treatments honestly in the questionnaire so the prescriber can judge suitability.

Ongoing monthly reviews are included, and repeat orders re-check suitability, with no auto-shipping. Orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day, with free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Does GLP-1 help with psoriasis?
GLP-1 medicines are not licensed to treat psoriasis in the UK. Their licensed uses are weight management and type 2 diabetes. Ask your dermatologist about the current evidence for your situation.
Can Ozempic trigger psoriasis?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes only. It is not a UK weight-loss medicine, so ask your prescriber or pharmacist about its side effects; psoriasis is not on the full list of side effects in the UK Mounjaro patient leaflet. If your skin changes after starting any treatment, tell your prescriber and dermatologist, and report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.
What did Kim Kardashian use for psoriasis?
Celebrity accounts are not clinical evidence. Psoriasis treatment is personal and decided with a GP or dermatologist. Medicines and creams that suit one person may not suit another.
What is the biggest trigger for psoriasis?
Your GP or dermatologist is the right person to discuss psoriasis flares with. If you are starting any new medicine, mention your psoriasis so your prescriber can factor it in.
What calms down psoriasis?
Treatment is chosen by your GP or dermatologist and depends on your type and severity of psoriasis. Do not replace prescribed psoriasis treatment with a weight-loss medicine.
What not to put on psoriasis?
Ask your pharmacist, GP or dermatologist before applying anything new to affected skin, since products suit people differently. If a product irritates your skin, stop using it and seek advice from a healthcare professional.
Can I use Mounjaro if I have psoriasis?
Having psoriasis does not by itself rule out a weight-loss consultation, but a GPhC-registered prescriber must review your full medical history and medicines. Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary. Declare your skin treatments honestly in the free consultation.
