GLP-1 Shred: What It Is and How It Differs From GLP-1 Medicine (October 2026)
GLP-1 Shred is an over-the-counter dietary supplement, not a GLP-1 medicine. It is marketed to encourage your body's own GLP-1 hormone, whereas prescription Mounjaro (tirzepatide) activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors directly and has clinical-trial data behind it.1 If you want a licensed treatment, your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). 01 · The short answer
What is GLP-1 Shred, and is it a GLP-1 medicine?
GLP-1 Shred is a dietary supplement sold over the counter, and it is not a GLP-1 medicine. A widely sold version is Inno Shred GLP-1 from Inno Supps, sold as capsules and promoted as a way to support your natural GLP-1 hormone, curb cravings and boost fat burning.
The marketing names ingredients such as berberine hydrochloride, a branded blend called InnoSlim, chromium picolinate, paradoxine and rauwolscine. Dosing is not standardised across supplements, and the manufacturer's label is the only guide to how this product is meant to be taken.
The key distinction is regulatory and practical. A prescription GLP-1 medicine is licensed, comes with a patient information leaflet, and is supplied only after a prescriber has reviewed your health. A supplement is low-cost, available without assessment, and has no clinical oversight.
02 · Your decision
Supplement or licensed medicine: which fits you?
A supplement may suit you if you only want to try a wellness product and accept that dramatic weight-loss claims on social media are marketing, not evidence. A licensed medicine suits you if you meet the criteria for weight management and want a treatment with published trial results and ongoing clinical support.
| Question | GLP-1 Shred supplement | Mounjaro (tirzepatide) |
|---|---|---|
| What is it? | Over-the-counter dietary supplement | Prescription-only medicine1 |
| How is it meant to work? | Marketed to support natural GLP-1 and metabolism | Activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, helping regulate appetite1 |
| Trial results? | — | SURMOUNT-1 trial averages, individual results vary2 |
| Clinical oversight? | None; available cheaply without assessment | Reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber |
| Form | Capsules; dosing is not standardised | Once-weekly pen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg, 15mg1 |
If the medicine route interests you, the next step is a free online consultation. The Mounjaro pen page shows live prices and doses, and our weight loss clinic explains how treatment and follow-up work. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

03 · Natural GLP-1 explained
What is natural GLP-1, and can you boost it?
GLP-1 is a hormone your gut already releases, and it is the reason the supplement idea sounds appealing. Medicines in this class work on the same receptor system, helping regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties.1
Supplement makers argue that you can raise your own hormone with ingredients rather than a medicine. There is no clinical evidence that this works.
We cover those separately in our guides on a GLP-1 prebiotic and a GLP-1 plaster, so you can judge the marketing for yourself.04 · Reading the marketing claims
How to read shred-stack marketing
Be sceptical of any product that promises dramatic weight loss in a short time. These claims usually come with before-and-after photos, celebrity name-dropping and phrases like "Hollywood-level results". None of that is a clinical trial.
Check four things before you buy any supplement. Does the label state clearly what each ingredient does? Is there a named, published study on the finished product rather than on a single ingredient? Does the seller tell you who should not take it? And does it warn you to speak to a prescriber if you take other medicines?
A "stack" simply means several products bundled together. More products means more ingredients interacting with each other and with any medicine you already take, and no one is reviewing that combination for you. If you are asking whether the whole category is a scam, our page on whether GLP-1 is a con goes through the common concerns.
05 · What the evidence shows
Does GLP-1 medicine actually help you lose weight?
Yes, licensed GLP-1-based medicines have trial evidence for weight loss, and that evidence is for the medicines, not for supplements. For Mounjaro, the pivotal trial is SURMOUNT-1.2
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2
That last sentence matters for the "shred" idea. A medicine is not a shortcut around food and movement; it makes a reduced-calorie diet easier to follow because most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1
06 · Getting shredded safely
Can you use GLP-1 to get shredded?
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, not for cutting body fat for aesthetic reasons.1 It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and the prescriber decides whether it is appropriate for you.
If your goal is a lean, defined look and you are already at a healthy weight, a prescription medicine for weight management is unlikely to be the right tool, and a prescriber would assess that during your consultation. Using it outside its licence is something we do not advise.
For people who do meet the licensed criteria, the medicine's role is to support appetite control while you build habits: regular meals, enough protein, strength training and sleep. These are general healthy-lifestyle points, and your prescriber or a registered dietitian can tailor them to you.
07 · NHS and private routes
NHS and private routes to a GLP-1 medicine
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
If you go private, choose a pharmacy that is on the GPhC register. Ours is GPhC 9012878, and you can check it yourself on the regulator's register. We supply Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging, and same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm.
Wegovy (semaglutide) is the other main once-weekly option, and you can read about the Wegovy pen too. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.
08 · Risks and side effects
What is the downside to taking GLP-1?
Every active medicine can cause side effects, and GLP-1-based medicines are no exception. The patient information leaflet lists them in full, and your prescriber will go through what to expect and when to seek help.13 Mounjaro can cause side effects, and most are digestive. The most common, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Side effects are most likely when starting treatment or moving up a dose, and for most people they ease within days to a few weeks as the body adjusts.
A supplement is not risk-free either, and the difference is that nobody assesses you before you buy. If you take other medicines or have a health condition, speak to a pharmacist or prescriber before starting anything, including capsules sold as natural. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.
If you notice any new symptom while using a medicine or supplement, tell your prescriber. You can also report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 One sensible habit is to buy only from regulated sources, because counterfeit weight-loss products are a recognised problem. Never use a seller offering to supply a prescription medicine without a consultation or prescription.7
09 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1 Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.
