01 · Prices

What GLP-1 treatments cost in the UK

Private GLP-1 prices in the UK depend mainly on the medicine and the dose, so a single "average price" is misleading. For Mounjaro (tirzepatide), our own index of the UK pharmacies we track shows pens from £143.96 to £339.00 per month across all doses and providers, checked 12 October 2026. Boots' Mounjaro dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00.

The starting pen is the most advertised figure. Across the pharmacies we track, the 2.5mg pen runs from £143.96 to £179.99. For the same dose, the gap between one provider and another is anywhere from £27 to £41 a month. That is why we compare dose by dose rather than quoting one headline.

At EverydayMeds, the Mounjaro pen costs £169.99 at 2.5mg, £218.99 at 5mg, £279.99 at 7.5mg, £290.99 at 10mg, £319.99 at 12.5mg and £329.99 at 15mg. Each is the standard price of one pen, which covers four weekly doses. New customers save £40 on their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). All six doses are in stock.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is the other licensed weekly injection for weight management. Your first Wegovy pen is £99.99 as a first-order price. Its dose ladder runs 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after at least 4 weeks to reach the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17, so the monthly cost rises as you climb.

03 · Planning

What a year of Mounjaro costs

Monthly prices hide the real commitment, because most people step up through several doses. These totals use standard prices before any discount. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

PhaseLengthCost at standard prices
If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose (2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg), first four pens4 pens£959.96
First year if you settle at 5mg52 weeks, 13 pens£2,711.88
First year if you settle at 15mg52 weeks, 13 pens£3,599.88

If you settle at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg, your monthly pen costs £279.99, £290.99 or £319.99 respectively. Our Mounjaro price comparison goes through the providers dose by dose.

04 · Method

How to compare providers fairly

To compare fairly, check the dose, the pen size and what happens at reorder. A low starting price that jumps at 5mg is not cheaper over a year than a steady one. Ask four questions of any provider:

  • Is the price for the same dose and a full 4-week pen?
  • Is the consultation free, and is the price shown the price paid?
  • Is delivery included, and is it temperature-controlled?
  • Is there ongoing clinical review, and can you verify the pharmacy on the GPhC register?

With us, the consultation is free and reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Delivery is free next-day tracked in temperature-controlled packaging, and same-day dispatch applies when you order by 3pm. Supply is official LillyDirect stock, and ongoing monthly reviews are included. Our injection price comparison shows how this works out against other providers.

05 · Ordering

How ordering works

Ordering works like this. First, complete the free online consultation, a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation. Second, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Third, our registered pharmacy dispenses and ships your pen with a sharps bin and injection guidance. Pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options and no subscription.

06 · Mounjaro vs Wegovy evidence

Mounjaro vs Wegovy: what the trials show

Price is only half the comparison, so it helps to see what each medicine did in trials. SURMOUNT-5 is the first large head-to-head trial: adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy).15 Both are effective, licensed treatments, and which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone.15

In SURMOUNT-5, 751 adults took either medicine for 72 weeks. At least 10% of body weight was lost by 81.6% on tirzepatide versus 60.5% on semaglutide, and at least 20% by 48.4% versus 27.3%. Average loss was 22.8 kg versus 15.0 kg.15 These are trial averages, and individual results vary.

In STEP 1, adults on semaglutide 2.4mg lost on average 14.9% of body weight over 68 weeks, compared with 2.4% on placebo.9 In SURMOUNT-1, people on tirzepatide lost on average 15% on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 Those are separate trials, so do not read them as a head-to-head. For a worked example, someone starting at 100 kg who matched the 20.9% average would lose about 21 kg, but trial averages do not predict your own result.

A cheaper pen is only good value if it is the right medicine for you. The guide to comparison of GLP-1 agonists goes deeper on how they differ.

07 · Tablets and cheaper alternatives

Tablets and other alternatives

There is no tablet form of Mounjaro, because tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK. Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk), approved by the MHRA in June 2026, and Foundayo (orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly), approved in August 2026.2021 They are different medicines from Mounjaro, with their own dosing, eligibility checks and trial results, and both are prescription-only.

Check the current figures on the weight loss treatments page. Because the trials differ, do not compare tablet results with Mounjaro's as if head to head.

Other licensed options work differently. Orlistat is a tablet that blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses. Wegovy and Saxenda (liraglutide) are other licensed injectables, and Saxenda is a daily injection supplied at 6mg per millilitre, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

"Natural GLP-1" supplements such as berberine are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence. They are available cheaply without assessment, but low cost is not the same as value when there is no clinical oversight.

08 · NHS or private

NHS or private: the honest picture

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment.

NHS prescriptions in England carry the standard £9.90 charge where one applies, so if you qualify, ask your GP first. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services, so ask your GP about that too. If you do not qualify yet, or do not want to wait, private prescribing is a legitimate route, provided the pharmacy is on the GPhC register.

09 · Who should not take GLP-1s

Who cannot take GLP-1 and what to avoid

Eligibility is set by licence and by a prescriber's judgement. Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding if it is suitable. Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

On medicines to avoid, the firmest rule is never to run two GLP-1 medicines together. Mounjaro must not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines, unlicensed "research" peptides such as retatrutide (which has no UK licence), or compounded copies, because these have no safety data and no regulated supply chain.1 Mounjaro can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows, and doses of insulin or sulfonylureas may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar.713 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Tell your prescriber about everything you take.

10 · Side effects and stopping

Wegovy side effects and why people stop

Gastrointestinal effects are the most common side effect of Wegovy. In STEP 1, gastrointestinal side effects were reported by 74.2% of people on semaglutide 2.4mg, compared with 47.9% on placebo, and 7.0% stopped treatment because of side effects, compared with 3.1% on placebo.9 That is one reason a person may stop or switch, alongside cost and how they respond.

If you notice a new symptom, discuss it with your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19 If you are thinking of changing medicine, switching is done under prescriber supervision with no licensed direct conversion between semaglutide and tirzepatide.

11 · Saving money safely

Saving money safely: counterfeits and stretching

A price that looks too low is a warning sign. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.7 Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.12 Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.

For discount details, see our Mounjaro discount code guide, and for price changes over time, GLP-1 price news.

12 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What is the cheapest GLP-1 treatment option in the UK?
It depends on the medicine and dose. Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00 per month (checked 12 October 2026), and the 2.5mg starting pen runs £143.96 to £179.99. Compare the same dose and the same 4-week pen. Supplements are cheaper but are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence.
Is Wegovy cheaper than Mounjaro?
The first-order prices differ at the starting dose, but the comparison changes as you climb doses. Your first Wegovy pen is £99.99 as a first-order price, while your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen is £129.99 as a first-order price (standard price £169.99). Costs change as you climb doses, so compare at the dose you expect to settle on.
Where can I find the cheapest Mounjaro in the UK?
Compare the same dose across verified, GPhC-registered pharmacies. For identical doses, the gap between providers we track runs from £27 to £41 a month. At EverydayMeds, a new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 less. Never buy from unverified sellers, since fake pens have caused hospitalisations.
Is one GLP-1 best for weight loss in the UK?
No licensed medicine is best for everyone; your prescriber decides what suits you. Both are effective licensed treatments, and which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone. Individual results vary.
Who cannot take GLP-1 medicines?
Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive; stop it at least one month before trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Always share your full medical history and medicine list during consultation.
What drugs should not be taken with GLP-1 medicines?
Do not take another GLP-1 medicine, unlicensed research peptides such as retatrutide, or compounded copies alongside Mounjaro. Insulin or sulfonylurea doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk, and oral contraceptives may be absorbed less because stomach emptying slows. If you take the pill, switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Tell your prescriber about every medicine you take.
Is it possible to lose weight without GLP-1 medication?
Yes. In SURMOUNT-1, people using lifestyle changes alone lost on average 3.1% of body weight over 72 weeks, compared with 15% to 20.9% on tirzepatide with diet and exercise. Results vary. Orlistat is another licensed option with smaller average losses. Supplements marketed as natural GLP-1 have no comparable trial evidence.
What weight loss injections are available on the NHS?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services, so ask your GP.
Why are people stopping Wegovy?
Side effects are one documented reason. In STEP 1, gastrointestinal side effects were reported by 74.2% of people on semaglutide 2.4mg versus 47.9% on placebo, and 7.0% stopped treatment because of side effects versus 3.1% on placebo. Cost and response also matter. Speak to your prescriber before stopping or switching.
