GLP-1 Oral Liquid in the UK: What Exists and What Doesn't (October 2026)

There is no licensed GLP-1 oral liquid for weight loss in the UK: the licensed GLP-1 options are weekly injections and, newly, daily tablets such as Wegovy tablets and Foundayo. Mounjaro is injection-only, and its pen starts at £169.99 per month for the Mounjaro pen at 2.5mg. Liquid drops sold as "GLP-1" are not these medicines. Prices checked 10 October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is injection-only in the UK, so any "oral liquid tirzepatide" is not a licensed Mounjaro product.
  • Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are the licensed oral GLP-1 options, both prescription-only after prescriber review.
  • "Natural GLP-1" supplements are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence.
  • Your first 2.5mg Mounjaro pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99).
In this guide

01 · The short version

Is there a GLP-1 oral liquid you can buy in the UK?

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine, and there is no tablet or liquid form of it. Two GLP-1 tablets are now licensed in the UK: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron).2021

Products sold online as "oral GLP-1" drops or sprays sit in that gap. They are not the licensed medicines, they are not reviewed by a prescriber and they have no trial evidence behind them.

Natural GLP-1 supplements such as berberine are not medicines, are not regulated for this use and have no comparable trial evidence. Their low cost is a warning sign about assessment and oversight, not a bargain.7

02 · What to do next

The decision you are actually facing

If you wanted a liquid because you dislike needles, the realistic question is whether a daily tablet suits you better than a weekly injection. If you wanted it because it sounded cheap or easy, the question is which licensed treatment fits your health, other medicines and routine.

When you are ready to look at the injection route, you can see the Mounjaro pen, prices and consultation. Your first 2.5mg pen is £129.99 with code FIRST40, and every later order is £25 off the standard price. If you prefer a tablet, see the Wegovy pill or Foundayo pages for current prices. For the wider picture, start at our weight loss clinic.

Every licensed option is supplied only after a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy (GPhC 9012878). We do not supply anything without that review.

03 · Why liquids are not licensed

Why you will not find a licensed GLP-1 liquid

The licensed GLP-1 treatments in the UK come in formats that have been tested in large trials: injections and now tablets. Mounjaro is a pre-filled multi-dose pen, and there is no tablet form of Mounjaro because tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK.1

A product can be called anything online. What makes a medicine a medicine is a licence, a documented dose, a patient information leaflet, and a prescriber who has checked it is suitable for you. Liquid drops marketed as GLP-1 products usually have none of these.

It is also worth knowing the difference between a hormone and a medicine that acts like it. GLP-1 is a natural gut hormone. Licensed medicines are designed to activate its receptor in a controlled, measured way. A bottle that claims to "boost" the hormone is making a very different, unproven claim. The MHRA runs a counterfeit medicine alert system and the Yellow Card scheme for exactly this reason.7

Some sellers use words such as "compounded", "oral tirzepatide" or "sublingual drops". Treat these as red flags.

Warning signs worth remembering:

  • No consultation or prescription is required to buy it.
  • The seller promises dramatic weight-loss claims or a specific result.
  • Dosing is vague, with no strengths matching a licensed product.
  • There is no patient information leaflet or UK pharmacy registration you can check on the GPhC register.

You can verify any UK online pharmacy on the public GPhC register. Ours is GPhC 9012878. If a liquid product cannot be traced to a registered pharmacy and a licensed medicine, do not use it, and report suspicious products through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Where you buy matters as much as what you buy. Our guide to where to buy GLP-1 products in the UK explains how to separate regulated pharmacies from sellers of look-alike products.

04 · Oral GLP-1 tablets

The oral GLP-1 options that are licensed: tablets

If you want an oral GLP-1, the licensed answer is a tablet. Two are now licensed in the UK. Wegovy tablets contain oral semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk, and Foundayo contains orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly. They are different medicines from Mounjaro, with their own dosing, eligibility checks and trial results, and both are prescription-only.2021

Wegovy tablets are taken as one tablet once a day. They are licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to under 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. Treatment starts at 1.5mg once daily and steps up to 4mg, 9mg and then the 25mg maintenance dose, with at least one month at each dose; the dose can stay at an earlier step if needed.20

The routine is strict. The tablet must be taken on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, swallowed whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass, about 120ml), and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.20 If a dose is missed, skip it and take the next tablet the following day.

In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking semaglutide 25mg tablets for 64 weeks lost on average 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo.22 Individual results vary. The most common side effects are digestive, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, along with headache and tiredness.

Foundayo is once daily too, but it can be taken at any time of day, with or without food and without water restrictions; the tablet is swallowed whole. It has the same BMI criteria as Wegovy tablets. Treatment starts at 0.8mg once daily, then steps up to 2.5mg and 5.5mg, and then to 9mg, 14.5mg or 17.2mg depending on response and tolerability, with at least 30 days at each dose; 17.2mg once daily is the maximum.21

In the ATTAIN-1 trial of 3,127 adults without type 2 diabetes, people taking the highest dose of orforglipron for 72 weeks lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 0.9% on placebo; the two lower doses gave 7.8% and 9.3%.23 The trial used capsules, and the UK 17.2mg tablet corresponds to the highest trial dose, so the tablet and capsule doses are not comparable milligram for milligram.

Neither tablet is a liquid, and neither should be crushed or dissolved. Swallow them whole as directed. You can see current prices on the Wegovy pill and Foundayo pages.

05 · Tablets vs Mounjaro

Tablets versus the Mounjaro injection

Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection; Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are once-daily tablets. No trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results from separate trials, with different people, durations and doses, should not be set against each other as if they were head to head. SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide.15

The practical differences matter as much as any average. Wegovy tablets need a strict empty-stomach routine every morning. Foundayo has no food or water rules. Mounjaro needs a single injection a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.1

Mounjaro is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

Who might lean towards which? Someone who dislikes needles and can manage a morning routine may prefer Wegovy tablets. Someone who wants no food rules but is happy with daily dosing may prefer Foundayo. Someone who wants to think about treatment once a week, and does not want to remember a daily tablet, may prefer an injection. None of these is a verdict on effectiveness; your prescriber will check which option is suitable for your health, your other medicines and your routine.

06 · Safety and side effects

Safety, side effects and unregulated products

Licensed GLP-1 medicines have documented side effects, and unregulated liquids have unknown ones. That is the central safety point. With a licensed product you know the ingredient, the dose and what to watch for. With a bottle of drops, you know none of these.

For Wegovy tablets, the most common side effects are digestive: nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, along with headache and tiredness. Gallstones and hair loss are listed as common for Wegovy tablets.20 For Foundayo the most common side effects are digestive too. In the trial, 10.3% of people on the highest dose stopped because of side effects, compared with 2.7% on placebo.23

For Mounjaro, mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.1 Our page on oral liquid side effects covers the symptoms people ask about most.

Contraception deserves a specific mention. Foundayo may make oral contraceptive pills less effective: switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 30 days after starting and for 30 days after each dose increase.21 For Mounjaro, the medicine slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. Switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.7

You may also be wondering about other medicines alongside a GLP-1. Doses of insulin or sulfonylureas may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk; they are not simply forbidden. Our consultation asks about your medicines so a prescriber can check.

If you notice any new symptom, discuss it with your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19 It is not appropriate to rely on online claims for these questions.

For a product with no licence, there is no leaflet to consult and no reliable way to report or trace a batch. That is a practical reason to stay within regulated treatment.

07 · NHS and private routes

NHS access versus private treatment

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

The NHS route runs through your GP or a specialist weight-management service. It is free apart from the usual prescription charge in England, currently £9.90 per item where it applies. The private route is faster to start and you choose the product with a prescriber, but you pay for the medicine.

NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

Neither route offers a liquid GLP-1. If someone offers you one, privately or otherwise, treat it as unregulated.

Cost is a fair concern. The Mounjaro pen at 2.5mg has a standard price of £169.99, and the 15mg pen is £329.99. Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pens range from £143.96 to £339.00, checked 10 October 2026. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg, at standard prices before discounts. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less.

Compared with that, a cheap liquid supplement may look appealing, but a low-cost supplement with no clinical oversight is not a like-for-like substitute for a licensed medicine. You can see a full price view on the Mounjaro pen page, and Boots-specific figures are in our index: Boots' Mounjaro doses range from £179.00 to £339.00.

08 · Using GLP-1s day to day

How licensed GLP-1 treatment works day to day

If you move from the idea of a liquid to a licensed treatment, it helps to know what daily and weekly life looks like. For Mounjaro, everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. This starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself. After at least four weeks the dose increases to 5mg, and can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1 Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg; higher is not automatically better.

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food. Licensed injection sites are the stomach area, the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose. Each KwikPen contains four weekly doses. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order. Our page on how to use GLP-1 products walks through the practicalities, and the dosing page on GLP-1 dosage per day explains why liquids have no standard daily dose.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time, then carry on with your usual day. If more than 4 days have passed, skip the missed dose entirely and take the next one on your normal day. Never take two doses within 3 days of each other. You can change your injection day as long as at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.13

Storage is simple. Keep Mounjaro pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded. Keep the cap on to protect it from light. You can fly with Mounjaro, carrying pens in hand luggage with your prescription label.

09 · Realistic expectations

Realistic expectations and stopping treatment

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.1

Treatment response is reviewed by your prescriber. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.

What if you stop? Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. The sensible step is to speak to your prescriber before stopping so you can plan eating, activity and follow-up together.

The question "is it possible to lose weight without GLP-1 medication?" has a straightforward answer: yes, through a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, which is also what the licensed medicines are designed to support. Other licensed options work differently. Orlistat, a tablet, blocks some dietary fat absorption and produces smaller average losses, and Saxenda (liraglutide, supplied at 6mg/ml) is a daily injection.

Which is fastest or best? No single option is best for everyone. SURMOUNT-5 is the direct comparison of tirzepatide with injected semaglutide, and no trial has compared Mounjaro with the tablets. A prescriber can discuss what suits you.15

10 · Ordering safely

How to get a licensed GLP-1 from a registered UK pharmacy

Getting a licensed GLP-1 through a regulated online pharmacy follows a clear sequence. It is the opposite of buying drops from an unknown seller, so it is worth setting out.

Start with a free online consultation: a short health questionnaire, with no charge and no obligation. Next, a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers; it is a clinical review, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Then our registered pharmacy dispenses your treatment, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm. Delivery is free, next-day, tracked and temperature-controlled, in discreet packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Our supply is Mounjaro direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution through LillyDirect, genuine KwikPens, and all six doses are in stock. The consultation is free, the price shown is the price paid, and there are no hidden fees. You can pay by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options and no subscriptions.

New customers save £40 on their first order with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

Aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team, plus side-effect support. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through the account portal chat or on 0333 207 0413.

Check any pharmacy before buying. The GPhC public register lets you verify registration; ours is GPhC 9012878. Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription. That one signal tells you the product is not being handled as a prescription medicine.712

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice. When you are ready, begin with the Mounjaro consultation.

11 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Is there a GLP-1 oral liquid available in the UK?
There is no licensed GLP-1 oral liquid for weight management in the UK. The licensed GLP-1 options are weekly injections such as Mounjaro and Wegovy, and daily tablets such as Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, all prescription-only. Liquid drops sold online as GLP-1 products are not these medicines, are not reviewed by a prescriber and have no comparable trial evidence behind them. If you are tempted by one, speak to a pharmacist first.
Is GLP-1 oral liquid available at Boots?
No licensed GLP-1 oral liquid exists in the UK, so no pharmacy, Boots included, can supply one; for Mounjaro injections, our price index tracks Boots' lowest and highest dose prices, currently £179.00 to £339.00 per month, checked 10 October 2026.
How often do I take GLP-1 oral liquid?
There is no licensed schedule for a GLP-1 oral liquid, because no licensed product exists, and supplement dosing is not standardised. For licensed treatments the schedules are clear. Mounjaro is injected once a week on the same day each week. Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are taken once a day. Follow your prescriber's instructions and the patient information leaflet for whichever medicine you are prescribed, and never take extra doses.
Which oral GLP-1 is best for weight loss?
The licensed oral GLP-1 options are Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, and no licensed medicine is best for everyone. They have different trials and routines: Wegovy tablets need an empty stomach and a wait before eating, while Foundayo has no food or water rules. Results from separate trials should not be compared as if head to head, and individual results vary. A prescriber will check which suits your health, other medicines and routine.
Which GLP-1 loses weight the fastest?
The early weeks on a starting dose are an adjustment phase, and most measurable progress builds month by month at higher doses. Trials measured results over many weeks, so think in months, not days. SURMOUNT-5 is the first large head-to-head trial of tirzepatide and injected semaglutide. Judge your own progress by trend rather than individual weigh-ins.
What happens if you stop taking GLP-1?
For Mounjaro, tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it. In SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued treatment lost a further 5.5% on average. Speak to your prescriber before stopping so you can plan your diet, activity and follow-up together.
Is GLP-1 safe?
Licensed GLP-1 medicines are prescription-only because they have real side effects and need suitability checks. The commonest are digestive, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, constipation, indigestion and stomach pain, and they usually settle for many people. Your prescriber reviews your health and other medicines first, and you can report suspected effects through the Yellow Card scheme. Unregulated liquids have no such assessment, so their safety is unknown.
Can you get off GLP-1 without gaining weight?
Treatment is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and those habits are the part you keep after stopping. Mounjaro manages weight; it does not cure the biology behind it: in SURMOUNT-4, people who stopped tirzepatide after 36 weeks regained on average 14% of body weight over the following year, while those who continued lost a further 5.5% on average. Plan the transition with your prescriber rather than stopping suddenly on your own.
Is it possible to lose weight without taking GLP-1 medication?
Yes. A reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity are the foundation, and the licensed medicines are designed to support them rather than replace them. Other licensed options exist too: orlistat is a tablet that blocks some dietary fat absorption and gives smaller average losses, and Saxenda is a daily liraglutide injection. Low-cost supplements marketed as natural GLP-1 are not medicines and have no comparable trial evidence, so they are not a substitute.
Is mirtazapine safe to take with a GLP-1?
Tell the prescriber about every medicine you take, including antidepressants, before starting any GLP-1. Our free online consultation asks about your medicines, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews the answers. Do not start or stop any medicine on your own because of something read online.
