Get GLP-1 Below 27 BMI: What UK Rules Allow (October 2026)

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition, so starting below a BMI of 27 is outside the licence.1 The one adjustment is for some ethnic backgrounds, where thresholds are usually 2.5 lower. Our Mounjaro pen prescribing follows these rules.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Starting Mounjaro below BMI 27 is outside its licence for weight management.
  • BMI 27 to 30 qualifies only with at least one weight-related condition.
  • South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African and African-Caribbean backgrounds usually use thresholds 2.5 lower.
  • If you started at a higher BMI and have since dropped, a prescriber reviews continuing treatment individually.
  • A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews every consultation, and the consultation is free.
In this guide

01 · Eligibility

Can you get a GLP-1 below BMI 27?

Generally no: for a new start, Mounjaro is licensed from BMI 30, or from 27 with a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used with a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, history and medicines before deciding.

Your situationLicensed starting point?
BMI 30 or aboveYes, subject to assessment
BMI 27 to 30 with a weight-related conditionYes, subject to assessment
BMI 27 to 30, no conditionNo
BMI under 27Only where an ethnic-background adjustment applies; your prescriber decides

02 · Adjustments

Does ethnic background change the number?

Yes. People from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds face higher risk of weight-related problems at a lower BMI, so thresholds are usually reduced by 2.5 kg/m².1 Your prescriber applies this during review.

03 · Next step

What to do next

Start the free consultation: it is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically. See also our guides on the BMI needed for GLP-1 and getting Mounjaro at BMI 27.

04 · If you have already lost weight

If you started higher and dropped below 27

The licence criteria describe who may start treatment. If you began at a qualifying BMI and have since fallen below 27, a prescriber reviews your case individually, looking at your BMI, history and current medicines.1 Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping. Our Mounjaro BMI 27 page covers the threshold in more detail.

05 · Why the threshold exists

What the SURMOUNT-1 trial showed

The pivotal SURMOUNT-1 trial involved 2,539 adults, with average losses of 15% on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Individual results vary.2

06 · Safety and NHS

Safety and NHS access

Mounjaro is unsuitable if you are allergic to tirzepatide, pregnant or trying to conceive, and your prescriber takes extra care with a history of pancreatitis, severe digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy or gallbladder problems.1 Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly. On the NHS, access is being phased in over several years; NICE recommends it for a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition.4 Other routes are explained in how to get GLP-1 meds and BMI for GLP-1.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I get GLP-1 if my BMI is normal?
Not for weight loss. Mounjaro is licensed for a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition, with lower thresholds for some ethnic backgrounds. A normal BMI sits below these. Talk to your GP about diet, activity and other support instead.
Can I get Mounjaro if my BMI is 25?
Generally not. A BMI of 25 is below the licensed starting threshold of 27 with a weight-related condition. An ethnic-background adjustment lowers thresholds by 2.5, which would put the threshold at around 24.5 for those groups, so a prescriber makes the final assessment.
Can I get Wegovy if my BMI is 25?
Wegovy has its own product information and eligibility criteria, so ask a prescriber what applies to you. For Mounjaro, a BMI of 25 is below the licensed starting threshold. Our free consultation can explain what applies to you.
What BMI qualifies for Ozempic?
Ozempic is licensed for type 2 diabetes rather than weight management, so it has no BMI qualification for weight loss. For weight management, the options we supply are Mounjaro, with a BMI of 30 or above or 27 to 30 plus a condition, and Wegovy.
What to do if my BMI is 27?
At BMI 27 to 30, Mounjaro is licensed only if you also have a weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Start a free consultation so a GPhC-registered prescriber can assess you, and keep up diet and activity.
Does a lower BMI threshold apply to some people?
Yes. For people from South Asian, Chinese, other Asian, Middle Eastern, Black African or African-Caribbean backgrounds, thresholds are usually reduced by 2.5 kg/m² because weight-related health risks arise at a lower BMI. Your prescriber applies this during review.
