Factors Driving GLP-1 Medication Pricing for Cash-Pay Patients (October 2026)

The main factors behind GLP-1 cash prices in the UK are the manufacturer's list price, your dose, how long you stay on treatment, and what a pharmacy adds on top. For Mounjaro, the standard pen price rises from £169.99 at 2.5mg to £329.99 at 15mg per month, and if you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. Across the UK pharmacies we track, pens range from £143.96 to £339.00. Prices checked 12 October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The manufacturer's list price sets the floor. Eli Lilly raised the UK list price of Mounjaro from 1 September 2025, and pharmacies buy from that base.
  • Dose is the biggest lever you control: Mounjaro pens cost £169.99 at 2.5mg and £329.99 at 15mg per month at standard prices.
  • Treatment length matters more than any single pen. A first year costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg.
  • Across the UK pharmacies we track, the gap between providers for the same dose runs from £27 to £41.
  • A price far below the rest of the market is a safety warning, not a bargain. Only buy from a GPhC-registered pharmacy.

01 · The short answer

What drives GLP-1 cash prices

Six factors explain almost every difference you will see between one GLP-1 quote and another. Some sit with the manufacturer, some with the pharmacy, and two sit with you.

FactorWho controls itHow it affects what you pay
Manufacturer list priceThe manufacturerSets the wholesale base every pharmacy buys from. Pharmacies cannot go much below what they pay.
Dose strengthYou and your prescriberHigher-strength pens cost more. Mounjaro runs from £169.99 at 2.5mg to £329.99 at 15mg per month at standard prices.
Treatment lengthYou and your prescriberGLP-1 treatment is ongoing, so cost compounds across months. One pen is rarely the real price.
Pharmacy margin and discountsThe pharmacyProviders buy at confidential discounts and choose how much to pass on. That is why the same dose can differ between providers.
Service modelThe pharmacyConsultation, reviews, delivery and aftercare are either included or charged separately. Always compare the total paid.
Competition between brandsThe marketMounjaro, Wegovy and others are different medicines with different list prices. Switching brand can change the cost, but it is a clinical decision first.

02 · Real numbers

What you will actually pay for Mounjaro

A Mounjaro pen at the 2.5mg starting dose has a standard price of £169.99 for four weeks, with the 5mg pen at £218.99, 7.5mg at £279.99, 10mg at £290.99, 12.5mg at £319.99 and 15mg at £329.99. Those are standard prices, and they are what a repeat order costs before the reorder discount. All six doses are in stock.

Discounts change the first bill and every later one. A new customer saves £40 on their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including people switching to us at a higher dose. After that, an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). Your first 2.5mg pen therefore costs £129.99 with the first-order code, against a standard price of £169.99. If you are switching at 15mg, your first order is £289.99. The Mounjaro discount code guide explains how the codes work.

The consultation is free, and the price shown is the price paid. Delivery is free next-day tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. Saturday delivery is £14.99. Because aftercare and monthly reviews are part of the service rather than add-ons, the pen price is close to your whole monthly cost. That is the number to compare across providers.

03 · Budgeting

Turning pen prices into a budget

If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.

Over a year, what you pay depends on where you and your prescriber settle. A first year (52 weeks, 13 pens) costs £2,711.88 at standard prices if you settle at 5mg, and up to £3,599.88 if you settle at 15mg. For 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg maintenance, work from the monthly prices of £279.99, £290.99 and £319.99. You do not have to move to the top dose to benefit. Your prescriber reviews progress and tolerability before any step up.

Payment can be spread. We accept Visa and Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options, and there is no subscription lock-in. Repeat orders re-check suitability and nothing ships automatically, so you stay in control of spend.

04 · Manufacturer list price

The manufacturer's list price sets the floor

Every UK pharmacy buys Mounjaro from the same manufacturer, so Eli Lilly's list price is the starting point for every cash price. On 14 August 2025 Lilly announced a UK list-price increase, effective 1 September 2025.

That explains why cash prices climbed across the board and why higher doses moved most. Pharmacy sell prices still differ, because providers receive confidential discounts and decide how much to pass on.

Across the UK pharmacies we track (checked 12 October 2026), the cheapest Mounjaro pen at any dose is £143.96 and the dearest is £339.00. For the 2.5mg starting pen alone, prices run from £143.96 to £179.99. Boots' Mounjaro prices run from £179.00 to £339.00 depending on dose. Those are index figures for comparison, not a quote from us.

05 · Dose and strength

Dose strength: why higher pens cost more

Mounjaro comes as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Higher cost does not automatically mean better value for you. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages and individual results vary.2 For someone starting at 100 kg, 15% is about 15 kg and 20.9% is about 21 kg.

The point for your budget is that the dose you end up on is a clinical decision made with your prescriber, based on response and tolerability. Plan around the monthly price of the dose your prescriber advises. Our guide to GLP-1 medications compared covers how doses and medicines differ.

06 · Treatment length

Treatment length is the hidden cost

The biggest cash-pay surprise is duration, not the first pen. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 The SURMOUNT-1 results were measured over 72 weeks, so a realistic plan covers many pens rather than one or two.2

Treatment continues on a maintenance strength for as long as you and your prescriber judge it appropriate. That is why we give a first-year range (£2,711.88 to £3,599.88 at standard prices) rather than a single pen price.

When you compare quotes, multiply by the length of treatment you are planning. A provider that looks slightly cheaper on the first pen can cost more over a year if its higher doses or extras are priced differently. Ask what is included in reviews and follow-up. Ours are ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team, with side-effect support.

07 · Service and extras

What the price includes: service model and hidden extras

Two providers can quote the same pen price and charge very different totals. The difference sits in what surrounds the pen: consultation, delivery, needles, reviews and aftercare.

  • Consultation: ours is free, with no charge and no obligation. It is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Delivery: free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.
  • Equipment: needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order.
  • Aftercare: monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments are part of the service.
  • Tracking: GLPTrackr, our free companion app, helps you track your GLP-1 journey on iOS or Android.

Supply source matters too. We supply genuine KwikPens direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution through official LillyDirect supply, with all six doses stocked from 2.5mg to 15mg. If you are comparing clinics rather than pharmacies, our pages on affordable cash-pay weight loss clinics and low-cost medically supervised programmes explain what to look for.

08 · Mounjaro versus other options

How other GLP-1 medicines change the cost picture

Mounjaro is not the only cash-pay GLP-1, and a different medicine has a different price base. Which medicine suits you depends on your clinical needs, not only on the price.

Wegovy (semaglutide) is a once-weekly pen with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg. It steps up after at least four weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18 Your first Wegovy pen costs £99.99 as a first-order price. Check availability at the time of order.

Liraglutide (Saxenda, and products such as Erly) is supplied at 6mg per millilitre and is a daily injection, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

GLP-1 tablets are a newer route. Wegovy tablets and Foundayo each have their own product information.2021 Do not compare their trial results with Mounjaro's as if they were head to head.

For a fuller rundown of the medicines themselves, read our GLP-1 medication examples and the explainer on GLP-1 receptor agonist medications.

09 · NHS versus cash pay

NHS access versus paying cash

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.5

If you qualify for the NHS pathway, the medicine itself is not a cash cost to you. If you do not, or you do not want to wait, cash pay is the route. For an overview of the programmes people use, see our comparison of cash-pay programmes for GLP-1 prescriptions. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.

Private treatment still needs to be clinically appropriate. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. A prescriber will assess your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.1

10 · Why very low prices are risky

When a low price is a warning sign

A price well below the rest of the market is a reason to be careful. Counterfeit and unlicensed GLP-1 products circulate online, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7

Warning signs include sellers offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, dramatic weight-loss claims, and no visible pharmacy registration. Before buying, look the pharmacy up on the GPhC register. Ours is registration 9012878, and you can check it on the GPhC register.

If you ever suspect a side effect or a faulty product, report it through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Prescription-only medicines such as Mounjaro are supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and tell your prescriber about every medicine you take, because Mounjaro slows stomach emptying and can affect how some oral medicines are absorbed.1 Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

Ordering takes three steps and you see the price before you commit.

  • Free online consultation: complete a short health questionnaire with no charge and no obligation, via our free consultation.
  • Prescriber review: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery: your pen is dispensed by our registered pharmacy and sent free next day, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm.

Browse the full range on our weight loss treatments page. Over 100,000 customers have been supported on their weight loss journey with us. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How much does Mounjaro typically cost?
At our standard prices a Mounjaro pen (four weeks) costs £169.99 at 2.5mg, rising to £329.99 at 15mg. Across the UK pharmacies we track, pens at any dose range from £143.96 to £339.00 (checked 12 October 2026).
What is the cash price range for GLP-1 medications?
For Mounjaro, the UK pharmacies we track list pens from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider.
What is the most affordable GLP-1 medication?
A prescriber decides which medicine suits you and which dose you need. Starting doses cost less than maintenance doses, and total cost depends on how long you continue. Compare the full monthly cost, including reviews and delivery, and let a prescriber decide which GLP-1 is clinically appropriate before you choose on price.
How to get GLP drugs cheaper?
Compare total cost across regulated pharmacies, use new-customer and reorder discounts, and only move up a dose when your prescriber advises it. A new customer saves £40 on a first order, and each later order is £25 off. Avoid sellers offering medicine without a consultation or prescription, however cheap.
Are GLP-1 medications getting cheaper?
Not recently for Mounjaro: Eli Lilly raised its UK list price from 1 September 2025. Our current prices are shown live and checked 12 October 2026, so you always see today's figure.
Is Mounjaro ever going to be cheaper?
Nobody can promise that. The manufacturer sets the list price, and pharmacies can only pass on what their own buying terms allow. What you can control is dose, treatment length and discounts. Today, new customers save £40 on their first order and an automatic £25 applies to every reorder.
How are people paying for GLP-1?
Many UK patients pay privately because NHS access is being phased in over several years, with the highest-need groups first.6 We accept Visa, Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly options, with no subscription. Repeat orders re-check suitability and nothing ships automatically.
What is the hard truth about GLP-1 medications?
They work alongside diet and activity, not instead of them, and they are an ongoing cost. In SURMOUNT-1, average loss over 72 weeks was 15% on 5mg and 20.9% on 15mg versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone, but individual results vary.2 Budget for months of treatment, not one pen.
