Does Mounjaro Help With PCOS Weight Loss? (October 2026)

Mounjaro can help with weight loss in women with PCOS who meet the licensed weight-management criteria, although it is not licensed specifically for PCOS. Weight loss itself is a first-line recommendation that can improve insulin resistance, cycles and symptoms.1 Eligibility uses the standard BMI criteria.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is not licensed for PCOS, but many women with PCOS meet the standard weight-management criteria.
  • Weight loss is a first-line recommendation in PCOS and can improve insulin resistance, cycles and symptoms.
  • Trial results come from people without a PCOS focus, so individual results vary.
  • Mention PCOS and any fertility plans in your consultation, because weight loss can restore ovulation.
  • It works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, not instead of them.
In this guide

01 · Decision

Is Mounjaro relevant to your PCOS?

It is relevant if you meet the licensed criteria for weight management, because eligibility is assessed on the standard BMI criteria and not on a PCOS diagnosis.1 Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, but not for PCOS.1

Many women with PCOS do meet those criteria. Tell the prescriber about your PCOS and any plans for pregnancy during your consultation, because improving weight can restore ovulation. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

02 · Next step

What to do next

If you think you qualify, start with a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. You can see current doses and prices on the Mounjaro pen page. Our weight loss clinic explains the wider service.

03 · How it may help

How Mounjaro may help with PCOS weight

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1

In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

04 · What trials show

What the weight-loss trial shows

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, and individual results vary.

That trial was not a PCOS study, so it cannot tell you how your own cycles or symptoms will respond. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

05 · NHS and fertility

NHS access and fertility planning

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.4 Having PCOS does not by itself set the criteria.

If you may become pregnant, raise it early: Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. See our pages on PCOS and weight loss injections, PCOS symptoms and medications for PCOS weight loss.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Which medication is used for PCOS weight loss?
No single medicine is best for everyone. Weight loss itself is a first-line recommendation in PCOS. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management, not PCOS, and suits adults who meet the standard BMI criteria.
Which is better for PCOS, Mounjaro or Ozempic?
Neither is licensed for PCOS. Mounjaro activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, while semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic) is single-action. Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes only; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine, and prescribing it privately for weight loss is off-label. Only a direct trial can compare them, and none is PCOS-specific. A prescriber can help you choose based on your health and goals.
What is the fastest way to lose weight with PCOS?
There is no safe shortcut. Licensed treatment alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity is the supported approach, and individual results vary. A prescriber can review whether a medicine suits you rather than relying on crash methods.
Can Mounjaro be covered for PCOS?
Coverage depends on weight-management criteria, not a PCOS diagnosis. On the NHS, NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, with access phased in over several years. Ask your GP whether you qualify.
Will NHS give me Mounjaro for PCOS?
Possibly, if you meet the NHS weight-management criteria. NICE recommends it for a BMI of at least 35 plus a weight-related condition, and the rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Many people who qualify choose private GLP-1 treatment rather than wait.
Does PCOS qualify as a disability or allow PIP?
Eligibility for disability status or PIP depends on how a condition affects your daily life, not on the diagnosis alone. Your GP or a benefits adviser can assess your situation.
Is PCOS considered chronically ill?
PCOS is a long-term condition, and managing it often involves weight, insulin resistance and cycles. How it affects you varies. Your GP can discuss your own picture, and our page on whether Mounjaro helps PCOS covers the treatment side.
