A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro helps most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, but it does not remove hunger for everyone.
  • Returning hunger is worth raising with your prescriber, who can review your dose, your routine and how treatment is going.
  • Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity, not instead of them.
  • Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40; every later order is £25 off the standard price.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Do you get hungry on Mounjaro?

Yes, some people still get hungry on Mounjaro, and it is a common question among new patients. The medicine activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties. In practice most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1 That wording matters: it describes what most people notice, not what everyone notices.

So the honest picture is a reduction in appetite that varies between individuals, rather than a switch that turns hunger off. If you feel hungry at times, that does not mean the medicine has failed. It does mean it is worth looking at your dose, your eating pattern and your routine with a prescriber. Our related guides on whether you still get hungry and whether you should be hungry at all go into specific angles.

02 · Your next step

What to do if you feel hungry on Mounjaro

Start by noting when the hunger appears and how strong it is. A short log of the day of your injection, your meals and your hunger gives your prescriber something concrete to review. Our free GLPTrackr companion app is designed for tracking a GLP-1 journey on iOS and Android.

Then raise it at your monthly review rather than adjusting anything yourself. Our prescribing team provides ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments, plus side-effect support. Those are decisions for your prescriber, not something to improvise.

If hunger is accompanied by anything that worries you, such as feeling unwell or struggling to eat at all, contact your prescriber. For severe, persistent stomach pain, chest pain, fainting or swelling of the face, lips, tongue or throat, get medical help straight away. You can also report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

03 · What it costs

What Mounjaro costs while you find your dose

Standard prices depend on the strength of pen your prescriber sets. A new customer's first order is £40 less with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).

StageWhat it coversStandard cost
Starter penOne 2.5mg pen (4 weeks)£169.99
First year if you settle at 5mg52 weeks, 13 pens£2,711.88
First year if you settle at 15mg52 weeks, 13 pens£3,599.88

If you settle at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg, the monthly pen prices are £279.99, £290.99 and £319.99. All six doses are in stock, so you can see current availability on the Mounjaro ordering page.

04 · Getting started

How ordering works

Ordering takes three steps, and the consultation is free with no obligation.

  • Free online consultation: a short health questionnaire. Start your free consultation here.
  • Prescriber review: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery: same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

We supply genuine Mounjaro KwikPens directly through official LillyDirect supply. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order. Payment is by Visa, Mastercard or Klarna, with pay-monthly options and no subscription. Repeat orders re-check suitability and never auto-ship.

05 · How tirzepatide affects appetite

How tirzepatide affects appetite

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes in a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1 That is the mechanism behind the feeling most people describe: fuller sooner, and less hungry between meals.

It is worth reading that sentence precisely. It does not say hunger disappears, and it does not say every person responds in the same way. The medicine is a support for eating less, not a replacement for the decisions you make around food.

Because the stomach empties more slowly, the effect is tied to meals as well as to appetite. Many people notice they reach comfortable fullness on smaller portions. Others notice the change more as quieter food thoughts between meals. Both are normal ways for the effect to show up, and both can sit alongside moments of real hunger.

This dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 That is a difference in mechanism, not a promise that one person will feel less hungry than they would on another medicine. If you are weighing the two, our weight loss treatments overview sets out the options.

It also helps to separate three things people often call hunger. There is physical hunger, the empty feeling that builds before a meal. There is appetite, the wish to eat something specific. And there is habit or emotional eating, where food is a response to a time of day or a mood. Mounjaro is described as acting on appetite regulation and stomach emptying. It cannot rewrite habits on its own, which is why a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity remain part of the treatment.

If you are curious how the question looks from other angles, our guides on feeling hungry on this medicine and whether hunger ever comes back cover the common scenarios patients ask about. The consistent message is that the medicine reduces appetite for most people, and a prescriber is the right person to look at the details of your case.

06 · Why hunger can still appear

Why hunger can still appear

Hunger can still appear on Mounjaro because the effect is described as a reduction in appetite for most people, not a complete block on it. That leaves room for hunger to show up at particular times, particular doses and particular points in your routine.

The first factor is dose. Mounjaro is supplied in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg, and the lowest is a starter strength used at the beginning of treatment.1 If you are on the first pen, you are at the very start of the range, and your prescriber will review whether and when a step up is right for you. Our guide on hunger at 2.5mg looks at that stage in detail, and hunger at 7.5mg covers a mid-range dose.

The second factor is individual response. The wording that most people feel fuller sooner means some people feel it less. If you are one of them, the answer is a conversation with your prescriber, not guesswork or self-adjustment.

The third factor is timing. Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days.1 It is a once-weekly medicine, so your body is not exposed to the same amount every hour of the week. If you notice a pattern across the week, write down the day of your injection alongside when you feel hungry.

The fourth factor is everything outside the medicine: what and when you eat, how much you sleep, how stressed you are and how active you are. It is reasonable to look at whether meals are regular, whether you are drinking enough, and whether eating is tied to emotion or habit rather than physical hunger.

None of these are reasons to feel you are doing something wrong. A few practical steps tend to make the conversation more useful:

  • Record your dose, injection day and when hunger shows up.
  • Note whether the hunger is physical, or tied to a time of day or a mood.
  • Bring the record to your monthly review.
  • Ask whether your dose and plan still fit your goals.

Our related pages on why you might be getting hungry and why hunger starts to creep back take the same approach from different starting points.

07 · Should you eat when not hungry?

Should you eat on Mounjaro when you are not hungry?

This is one of the most common questions new patients ask: do you need to force yourself to eat on Mounjaro?

Mounjaro must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 It supports eating less by making most people feel fuller sooner. It is not intended to leave you unable to eat. A lower appetite is the expected direction of travel, but it should not become a reason to skip meals entirely without speaking to someone.

If you notice that you are barely eating, feel unwell when you do, or are worried about what you are managing to get through each day, contact your prescriber. Do not wait for your next review. Our prescribing team offers side-effect support as part of aftercare, and you can reach our support team Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, by phone on 0333 207 0413, or through the chat in your account portal.

You can also report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme, which helps the MHRA monitor medicines.19

What happens if you overeat is another frequent question. Many people find that eating past comfortable fullness feels unpleasant, which is consistent with the medicine slowing stomach emptying. If you regularly feel unwell after eating, or feel unwell in any way you are unsure about, tell your prescriber.

A practical way to think about it is to use fullness as information rather than a target. Notice when you feel comfortably full, and stop there. Notice when you feel genuinely hungry, and respond with a planned meal rather than a rushed one. Where food has been a habit or comfort, the medicine can create space to notice that, but it does not do the work for you.

If you want a longer look at what normal appetite feels like on treatment, our page on whether you should be hungry on treatment expands on this. For anything that feels outside what you were told to expect, ask your prescriber first.

08 · Weight loss expectations

What the trial results say about weight loss

Trial results show meaningful average weight loss on tirzepatide, but they are averages and individual results vary. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2

At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2

As a worked example, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg, and 15% is about 15 kg. Those are the straight arithmetic of the trial averages, not a prediction for any one person, and trial averages do not predict your own result.

People often ask how much they can lose in 3 months. The sensible expectation is that treatment is a long-term process of gradual change alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more physical activity.

Can you lose weight on Mounjaro without dieting? The SURMOUNT-1 results were achieved with diet and exercise in both groups, and the medicine is licensed for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.2 Treatment works with those changes, not instead of them. Anyone promising weight loss with no effort from you is promising something the evidence does not show.

How do you speed up weight loss on Mounjaro? There are no safe or licensed shortcuts. The legitimate route is to stay on the dose your prescriber sets, review it regularly, and keep up the diet and activity changes the treatment is built around.

How hungry you feel is one part of the picture, but it is not a reliable measure of whether treatment is working. Some people feel a big change in appetite, others a modest one. Your prescriber will look at your overall progress, your tolerance and your goals at each monthly review, which is a better guide than any single day's hunger.

If you are curious how people approach this question after longer on treatment, our complete guide to still being hungry brings the practical points together.

09 · Doses, 2.5mg and reviews

Doses, staying on 2.5mg and your reviews

Is it safe to stay on 2.5mg of Mounjaro? The answer depends on your circumstances, and it is a decision for your prescriber, not something you should settle alone. Your prescriber decides whether and when to change your dose, based on your tolerance, your response and your goals.

Every later order is £25 off the standard price. The standard monthly prices for each strength are £169.99, £218.99, £279.99, £290.99, £319.99 and £329.99.

The trial results show that outcomes were reported at several doses, including 5mg, 10mg and 15mg.2 That does not mean a higher dose is always better for you. A prescriber weighs benefit against tolerability, and the right dose is the one that fits you.

What if you are already on treatment elsewhere and thinking of switching? A new customer gets £40 off their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including people moving from another provider at a higher dose. Switching at 15mg, for example, means your first order is £289.99. The consultation is still free and still reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

What to expect in week 1 is also a frequent question. The first pen is the 2.5mg starter, and the effect on appetite differs from person to person. If something concerns you, contact your prescriber. Our aftercare includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments, so you are not left to work it out alone.

When you are ready to look at doses and availability, the Mounjaro pen page shows current prices for each strength.

10 · Eligibility and NHS access

Who can take Mounjaro, privately or on the NHS

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition. Qualifying conditions include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.111

A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable for you. That is why every order starts with a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

The NHS route is different. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. If you are unsure which route suits you, your GP is a sensible first conversation, and you can compare options through our weight loss treatments hub.

Private treatment is a personal choice, and it should be regulated. We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy, registration 9012878, and you can check us on the GPhC register. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, and it should only ever be supplied after a consultation and prescription. Be cautious of anyone offering to supply it without a consultation or prescription.

Why it matters for hunger: whichever route you take, an appetite concern is a clinical question. Whether you are NHS or private, the person who has seen your history is the right one to ask. In our service that is the prescribing team, who handle monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments as part of aftercare.

Costs on the private route are shown openly. The price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees.

11 · Stopping, storage and safety

Stopping, storing your pens and staying safe

If you stop Mounjaro, appetite changes do not reverse instantly, because tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly 4 to 5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 Talk to your prescriber before you stop, so that the decision is planned rather than sudden.

Storage is straightforward. Store unopened pens in the fridge until first use, and they keep until the printed expiry date. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen.13 For any question about an unopened pen left out of the fridge, check the patient information leaflet and ask the pharmacy rather than guessing. Past the tested window, sterility and potency are no longer assured.

Follow the pen's own instructions for injecting. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every order, so you have what you need from the first dose.

Does Mounjaro affect other medicines? If you use oral contraception or any other regular medicine, tell your prescriber, who will review it as part of your assessment. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 If you use insulin or a sulfonylurea, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar, so your prescriber needs to know.

Side effects are worth taking seriously, and you should never feel you have to cope alone. Tell your prescriber about anything new, and report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19

Finally, buy from a regulated source. We supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, and we are GPhC-registered. Dispensed prescription medicines cannot be returned unless faulty, damaged or the wrong item, so contact us within 3 days if there is a problem. Support runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

If you want to start, the free consultation takes a few minutes, and you can order Mounjaro online once a prescriber approves it. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary, and this page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

12 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Do you get hungry on Mounjaro?
Yes, some people still get hungry on Mounjaro. Tirzepatide activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which help regulate appetite and slow stomach emptying, and most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals. That describes most people, not everyone, and the strength of the effect varies. If hunger bothers you, keep a short record and raise it with your prescriber at your next review.
What to expect in week 1 of Mounjaro?
Week 1 is your first dose of the 2.5mg starter pen, the lowest of six strengths. Most people go on to feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, but how much you notice differs from person to person. Follow the pen's instructions, note how you feel, and contact your prescriber if anything worries you. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
Should you eat on Mounjaro when not hungry?
Mounjaro is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet, and it is meant to help you feel fuller, not to leave you unable to eat. If you are barely eating, feel unwell when you do, or are worried about what you manage each day, contact your prescriber promptly rather than waiting for your next review.
Is it necessary to force myself to eat on Mounjaro?
Not as a general rule, but this is a question for your prescriber, who knows your history. The medicine reduces appetite for most people, which is its intended effect alongside a reduced-calorie diet. If your appetite is so low that you struggle to eat at all, tell your prescriber, who can review your dose and wellbeing. You can also email support@everydaymeds.co.uk or phone 0333 207 0413 on weekdays.
What happens if you overeat on Mounjaro?
Tirzepatide slows how quickly the stomach empties, and many people find eating past comfortable fullness unpleasant. Use fullness as information and stop when comfortably full. If you regularly feel unwell after eating, tell your prescriber, and report any suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.
Can you lose weight on Mounjaro without dieting?
Mounjaro is licensed for use alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and the SURMOUNT-1 results were achieved with diet and exercise in both groups. In that trial, tirzepatide users lost on average 15% on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, versus 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. Individual results vary, and treatment works with these changes, not instead of them.
How to speed weight loss on Mounjaro?
We do not recommend shortcuts. The legitimate route is to stay on the dose your prescriber sets, keep up your reduced-calorie diet and physical activity, and attend your monthly reviews. Trial averages do not predict your own result, so progress at your own pace is normal.
How much weight can you lose on Mounjaro in 3 months?
Three months in, most people are still on the lower rungs of the dose ladder, so trial-average losses at this stage are modest compared with the headline figures. In SURMOUNT-1, average weight loss built month by month, with the full 15–21% averages measured at 72 weeks, not 12. A sensible 3-month expectation on a standard titration is mid single digits as a percentage of body weight, with wide individual variation. Slower early progress does not predict failure — the dose you respond to may still be ahead of you.
Is it safe to stay on 2.5mg of Mounjaro?
That is a decision for your prescriber, not something to settle yourself. The 2.5mg pen is the lowest of six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg, and your prescriber decides whether and when to change dose based on your tolerance, response and goals. Our team provides ongoing monthly reviews and dose-titration.
