Can You Take Viagra While on Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Many men ask this, and the honest answer is: check with your prescriber or pharmacist before combining them, because Mounjaro slows how quickly the stomach empties, which may affect how oral tablets behave.1 Read your leaflet, share your full medicines list, and get personal advice.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • The safest step is a quick check with your prescriber or pharmacist before combining them.
  • Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, so tablets taken by mouth may behave differently from how you expect.
  • Tell your prescriber about every medicine you take, including prescription, over-the-counter and sexual health treatments.
  • Report any new or worrying symptom through the Yellow Card scheme and speak to a clinician.
  • Mounjaro is for weight management and type 2 diabetes. It is not a treatment for erectile problems.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Is it safe to combine Viagra and Mounjaro?

Nobody can answer that for every man, because it depends on your health, your other medicines and your dose. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Treatments for erectile dysfunction are a separate category, and neither product's leaflet is written around the other.

The sensible route is to put both medicines in front of a clinician who can see your full history. Our guide, Mounjaro and Viagra explained, goes into more detail.

02 · Your next step

What should you do before taking both?

Start by reading the patient information leaflet for each medicine, then speak to a prescriber or pharmacist before the first combined dose.13 Be ready to tell them:

  • Every prescription medicine you take, including heart, blood pressure and diabetes treatments.
  • Any over-the-counter products and supplements.
  • Your current Mounjaro strength and whether you recently changed dose.
  • Any symptoms you have noticed since starting treatment.

If you are already a customer, your monthly review with our prescribing team is a natural moment to raise it. If you are considering treatment, you can start with the Mounjaro pen consultation, where your other medicines are reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. For wider context on the programme, see our weight loss clinic overview.

03 · Stomach emptying

Why stomach emptying matters for tablets

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve how the body responds to insulin.2 That slower emptying is part of why most people feel fuller sooner.

It is also why prescribers think carefully about medicines taken by mouth. A tablet has to pass through the stomach before it is absorbed, so timing can differ from what you are used to. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed.7 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1

If you notice a tablet seems to work differently since starting Mounjaro, tell your prescriber rather than changing how you take it.

04 · Other medicines

Other medicines that need a conversation

Viagra is far from the only thing worth mentioning. If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, their doses may need adjusting when you start Mounjaro because of the risk of low blood sugar.1 That does not mean they cannot be used together, only that someone should review the doses.

The same principle applies to everyday products. We have written separate guides on whether you can take omeprazole alongside Mounjaro, how common painkillers fit in, and what happens if you try to combine another GLP-1 medicine with it. Each one comes back to the same habit: list everything you take and let a clinician check it.

05 · Sexual health and weight

Sexual health while on treatment

Changes in weight, energy, appetite and mood can all affect how you feel day to day, and sexual health is part of that. Mounjaro is not licensed as a treatment for erectile problems, so please do not expect it to treat them.1

If you have difficulty with erections, that is worth raising with a clinician in its own right. It can be linked to general health, and a prescriber can look at the full picture instead of treating one symptom.

Beware of anyone offering to supply either medicine without a consultation or prescription. Both are prescription-only, and counterfeit products are a real risk.7

06 · Reporting symptoms

If you feel unwell after combining them

If you feel unwell after taking any new medicine alongside Mounjaro, speak to your prescriber or pharmacist. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. For chest pain, a racing heart or fainting, get medical help straight away.

For less urgent concerns, speak to your prescriber, and report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Yellow Card reports help regulators spot patterns that individual leaflets might not yet reflect.

Our support team is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0333 207 0413 or at support@everydaymeds.co.uk if you need help reaching your prescriber.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I take Viagra while on Mounjaro?
There is no blanket answer, because it depends on your health and other medicines. Check with your prescriber or pharmacist, share your full medicines list, and read both patient leaflets before combining them.
What can you not take with Mounjaro?
Insulin and sulfonylurea doses may need adjusting because of low blood sugar risk. Oral contraceptive pills can be absorbed less well: switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Mounjaro must not be combined with other GLP-1 medicines. Always give your prescriber a complete medicines list.
What drugs should not be mixed with Viagra?
The Viagra patient leaflet and your pharmacist are the right sources, as the list depends on your health and other medicines. Tell whoever supplies it about every heart, blood pressure and other prescription treatment you take, including Mounjaro, so they can check the combination.
Will Mounjaro make Viagra work differently?
Tirzepatide slows how quickly the stomach empties, so oral medicines can behave differently. If you notice a change, tell your prescriber rather than adjusting how you take either medicine yourself.
What can a man use instead of Viagra?
There are several licensed options for erectile dysfunction, and the right one depends on your health and other medicines. A prescriber can discuss them with you in a free online consultation, where you can also mention that you are taking Mounjaro.
Does Mounjaro treat erectile dysfunction?
No. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. Erectile problems have their own causes and treatments, so raise them with a clinician instead of expecting weight-loss treatment to resolve them.
Who should I tell that I am taking both?
Tell your prescriber, your pharmacist and your GP. Having everyone aware of every medicine you use makes interaction checks far more reliable. At EverydayMeds, ongoing monthly reviews give you a regular chance to update your medicines list.
