Can You Take Mounjaro If You Have Endometriosis? (October 2026)

Having endometriosis does not automatically rule Mounjaro in or out: the decision depends on your full history, your current treatments and your weight-related health, and needs a prescriber's review. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not for treating endometriosis itself. Information current as of October 2026.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults. It is not a treatment for endometriosis.
  • Always declare your endometriosis diagnosis, surgery history and current medicines in the consultation so a GPhC-registered prescriber can decide.
  • Mounjaro can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives, so switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and after each dose increase.
  • Your gynaecology team or GP should stay involved in managing endometriosis. Weight loss does not replace that care.
  • Results vary. Trial averages do not predict your own outcome, and treatment works alongside diet and activity.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you take Mounjaro with endometriosis?

You may be able to, but it is an individual decision rather than a yes-or-no rule. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Endometriosis is a separate condition, and the medicine is not licensed to treat it. If you are considering Mounjaro, the question is whether weight management treatment is appropriate for you, given everything else about your health.

02 · Your decision

The decisions you are actually facing

Most people reading this are facing two practical questions. The first is whether weight management treatment is relevant to you at all. The second is how to make sure it fits around your endometriosis care.

QuestionWhat it depends onWho decides
Am I eligible for weight management treatment?Your BMI and weight-related health conditions, against the licensed criteriaA GPhC-registered prescriber after your consultation
Does my endometriosis change that?Your history, symptoms, surgeries and current medicinesThe prescriber, and your GP or gynaecology team if there is doubt
Will it interact with my hormonal treatment?Which treatments you take, including oral contraceptivesThe prescriber, using the product information
Will it help my endometriosis symptoms?Mounjaro is not a treatment for endometriosisYour gynaecology team

If your endometriosis causes significant pain, digestive symptoms or fatigue, say so plainly. Those details help the prescriber judge whether now is the right time, and how closely to review you.

03 · What to do next

What to do next

If you meet the licensed weight criteria and want to explore private treatment, the Mounjaro pen consultation is free and has no obligation. A new customer's first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. Prices checked 12 October 2026. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.

If you are unsure, speak to your GP or gynaecologist first. For wider background, our complete endometriosis guide goes deeper, and our weight loss clinic page explains the wider service.

One caution: do not stop or change any endometriosis treatment on your own because you are starting a weight medicine. Any change should come from the clinician who manages your endometriosis.

04 · What Mounjaro is for

What Mounjaro is licensed for

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1

That licence matters for your question. Endometriosis does not appear in the licensed uses, so nobody should sell or prescribe Mounjaro as an endometriosis treatment. If a website, social post or seller suggests it treats or cures the condition, treat that as marketing rather than medical evidence. A genuine prescriber will assess you for weight management, or for diabetes where relevant, and nothing else.

This does not mean the two cannot coexist. Plenty of adults live with long-term conditions and are still suitable for weight management treatment. It means the condition is something the prescriber must weigh up, using the full patient information leaflet and the summary of product characteristics as their reference.13 It also means you should be wary of anyone who answers with an instant yes before knowing your history.

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine. It is supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and it is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

When you complete a consultation, answer every question fully. Include your endometriosis diagnosis, whether you have had surgery, which medicines you take for pain or hormones, and any other conditions. A thorough answer lets the prescriber make a safe call, and an incomplete one can lead to a refusal or a delay while they ask follow-up questions.

It also helps to know what the pen is. The KwikPen is a multi-dose device used once weekly, and each strength is a separate pen. You do not mix strengths or share pens. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order, and the pen's own instructions are the reference for how to inject.

The brand name matters too. Because Mounjaro is a branded, genuine product supplied through official channels, you can check that you are receiving the real thing.

05 · How it works

How Mounjaro works in the body

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1

This dual action distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic).1 The mechanism is about appetite, digestion and insulin response.

The slowed stomach emptying is the part most relevant to people with endometriosis, for two reasons. First, it is the reason the medicine can reduce absorption of oral contraceptives. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Second, many people with endometriosis already live with digestive discomfort. If that describes you, tell the prescriber, because it is useful context for how they plan your dose steps and reviews.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1

Understanding the mechanism also keeps expectations realistic. Mounjaro supports eating less by reducing appetite. It works alongside food choices and activity, not in place of them, and it works on weight rather than on the disease process behind your pain.

06 · Hormones and contraception

Hormonal treatment and contraception

Many people with endometriosis take hormonal treatment, including oral contraceptives, so this is the most practical point to check. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. This applies to the pill only — implants, coils and injections are unaffected.7 That is the mechanism, and it should not be put down to weight loss itself.

If you take an oral hormonal pill for contraception, for period control or for pain, tell the prescriber in your consultation. They can advise on what the patient information and MHRA guidance say, and on whether you need to discuss alternatives with your own GP or gynaecologist. Do not stop or switch your endometriosis medication yourself, since that decision belongs with the clinician who manages your condition.

It is also worth separating two purposes. A pill taken to manage endometriosis symptoms may also be your contraception, and you might not think of it as contraception at all. The prescriber will ask the question either way, so give a complete list of everything you take, including anything prescribed by a specialist.

Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

If anything changes after you start, such as a new prescription or a surgery date, contact the prescribing team before your next dose rather than waiting for the next review. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and nothing ships automatically, so there is a built-in checkpoint each time.

Where you are unsure whether a medicine is hormonal, ask your pharmacist or the prescriber. They would rather answer the question than find out afterwards.

07 · Weight and expectations

Weight, endometriosis and realistic expectations

Weight management treatment is aimed at your weight and related health, so set your expectations around that. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2

Trial averages do not predict your own result. Anyone promising you a specific outcome, or telling you it will ease your pelvic symptoms, is going beyond the evidence.

Why do people with endometriosis ask about weight? Reasons vary: reduced activity during painful periods, hormonal treatments, or general health goals.

Be careful with fast-weight-loss promises. Low-cost supplements sold as natural alternatives carry no clinical oversight, and their dosing is not standardised. A regulated, reviewed route is a very different proposition.

Keep activity realistic too. Treatment is used alongside increased physical activity, but if your endometriosis causes pain or fatigue, build up in a way that works for you and speak to your clinicians about what is sensible. Nobody benefits from pushing through a flare for the sake of a plan.

Finally, think about what success means. For some people it is a number on the scales. For others it is easier movement, better control of other conditions or simply a sense of control. Agree your own goals with the prescriber at the start, and revisit them at your monthly reviews.

08 · NHS and private

NHS or private: which route fits you

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.6

For someone with endometriosis, the NHS route has an advantage: your GP already knows your history, and your gynaecology team may be in the same system. If you might qualify, ask your GP whether you fall within the current rollout group. You can read the NHS overview of the medicine for general information.5 The NHS prescription charge in England is £9.90 per item, where charges apply.

The private route is faster for people not yet reached by the rollout. It is a paid service, so cost planning matters. Standard prices are £169.99 for 2.5mg, £218.99 for 5mg, £279.99 for 7.5mg, £290.99 for 10mg, £319.99 for 12.5mg and £329.99 for 15mg, each per month, checked 12 October 2026. At standard prices, a first year costs £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less.

Compare that with other providers across the UK pharmacies we track: the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pen run from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider, checked 12 October 2026.

Whichever route you choose, tell both sides. If you are on the NHS, let your gynaecologist know you are taking weight medication. If you are private, you are welcome to share your prescriber's details with your GP. Joined-up information reduces the risk of anything being missed.

You do not have to pick one forever. Some people start privately, then move to NHS care when they reach the front of the queue, while others do the reverse. Ask each service how a handover would work.

09 · Your treatment journey

What treatment looks like week to week

Mounjaro is injected once weekly, and each pen is a different strength. People step up through the strengths rather than starting high.

If your endometriosis flares during titration, do not assume a flare and the medicine are unrelated, and do not assume they are linked. Contact the prescribing team and your usual clinicians, describe what is happening, and let them advise. Ongoing monthly reviews, dose-titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team are part of the service, along with side-effect support.

  • Complete a free online consultation. It is a short health questionnaire, with no charge and no obligation.
  • A GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. It is a clinical review, not a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • If approved, our registered pharmacy dispenses it. Dispatch is the same day when ordered by 3pm, with free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging. Saturday delivery is £14.99.

Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping, so you control each order. Payment options include Visa, Mastercard, Klarna and pay-monthly plans, with no subscriptions. Support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, by email at support@everydaymeds.co.uk, through your account portal chat or on 0333 207 0413.

Our supply comes through official LillyDirect channels, so you receive genuine KwikPens, and all six doses are in stock. The free GLPTrackr companion app helps you log doses and symptoms, which can be useful to show both your prescriber and your endometriosis team.

Keeping a simple record of symptoms alongside doses helps you spot patterns and gives clinicians something concrete to work from, instead of relying on memory at an appointment.

If you stop for any reason, remember the medicine takes four to five weeks to clear, so plan any procedures or medicine changes with your clinicians in advance.

10 · Safe use and storage

Safe use, storage and reporting problems

Store unopened pens in the fridge until first use, and they keep until the printed expiry date. Once in use, a KwikPen is licensed for up to 30 days (not above 30°C) out of the fridge.1 Unopened pens belong at 2–8°C, and for any question about an unopened pen that has been out of the fridge, check the patient information leaflet and ask the pharmacy.13 Follow the pen's instructions for injecting, and use a new needle each time from the supplied sharps guidance.

If you have experienced pain or digestive symptoms from endometriosis, it may be tempting to explain away anything new. Please do not. For any symptom, the approach is the same: report new or worrying symptoms to your prescriber, and consider reporting suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19

Counterfeit safety matters. The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts.7 Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription, of unusually cheap pens, and of products sold through social media. You can confirm that a pharmacy is genuine on the GPhC register, where we are listed under registration 9012878.

If you have severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away. Keep your leaflet handy, keep a list of your endometriosis medicines, and share both with any clinician who treats you, including in A&E.

Finally, remember that refunds follow set rules: declined consultations are refunded automatically in full, while dispensed prescription medicines cannot be returned except when faulty, damaged or the wrong item, and you must contact us promptly. Refunds take five to ten working days.

11 · Questions for your appointment

Questions to take to your appointment

A good conversation beats a good guess, so go in prepared. Whether you see your GP, your gynaecologist or our prescribing team, these questions help you get a clear, personal answer.

First, ask whether weight management treatment is appropriate for you right now. If you have recent surgery planned, a flare that is not controlled, or a change in medicines coming, the timing may matter, and your clinicians can tell you whether to wait.

Second, ask how it fits with your hormonal treatment. Name every medicine you take, including pills, patches, injections and pain relief, and ask whether any need extra thought. Mention oral contraception in particular: Mounjaro can reduce how well the pill is absorbed, so switch to a non-oral method or add a barrier method for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.

Third, ask what to do if your symptoms change. Who should you ring: the prescribing team, your GP or your gynaecologist? Agreeing this in advance avoids confusion in the middle of a bad week.

Fourth, ask how often you will be reviewed. With us, ongoing monthly reviews are included, and repeat orders re-check suitability. Ask your other clinicians whether they want updates too.

Fifth, ask what a sensible goal is. Think about weight, movement and wellbeing rather than a single target, and remember that trial averages do not predict your own result.

Sixth, if you are thinking about pregnancy, say so early. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Your clinicians can help you plan the order of things.

Finally, think about your wider health picture. Other conditions can also affect decisions, and we have guides on related questions: for example taking Mounjaro with acid reflux, with gastritis, with lupus, with MS and with asthma. If you live with several conditions, read the ones that apply and bring the questions to your appointment.

Write your answers down and keep them with your GLPTrackr log. A record like that is helpful whenever you see a new clinician, and it makes it easier to explain what you have tried and what you want from treatment.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I take Mounjaro if I have endometriosis?
Possibly, but it needs an individual review. A GPhC-registered prescriber will look at your history, your current medicines and your weight-related health before deciding. Always declare your diagnosis, any surgery and every medicine you take, including hormonal treatment, in the consultation.
Can I get Mounjaro for endometriosis?
No, not as a treatment for endometriosis. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes, so it can only be prescribed for those purposes if you meet the criteria. Having endometriosis does not qualify you, and it does not automatically disqualify you. Anyone suggesting it treats or cures the condition is going beyond the licence. Your gynaecology team remains the right place for endometriosis treatment decisions.
Can Wegovy help with endometriosis?
Wegovy is also a weight management medicine, not an endometriosis treatment. Its licensed use is weight management, with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once weekly, reaching the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17. If you are weighing the two medicines up, a prescriber can discuss which suits your circumstances and your wider health.
What's the fastest way to lose weight if you have endometriosis?
There is no safe shortcut, and we would be wary of anyone offering one. If you meet the licensed criteria, a prescriber-reviewed medicine used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity is one regulated option. Low-cost supplements and dramatic weight-loss claims carry no clinical oversight. Trial averages do not predict your own result, so agree realistic goals with a clinician who knows your endometriosis, and avoid extreme diets during painful flares.
Does endometriosis cause a big tummy?
Many people with endometriosis report a swollen abdomen, but a persistent change in your stomach size should be assessed by your GP or gynaecologist rather than assumed to be weight. Mounjaro is a weight management medicine and is not a treatment for bloating or abdominal swelling from any cause, so get the cause checked first.
How can endometriosis be reduced, and does weight loss help?
Managing endometriosis is a matter for your GP and gynaecology team, who can discuss treatment options based on your symptoms and goals. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes. If you want help with weight, it is a separate decision that sits alongside, not instead of, your endometriosis care.
Will Mounjaro affect my contraceptive pill or hormonal treatment?
It can. Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed. Switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. Many people with endometriosis take hormonal pills for symptom control as well as contraception, so tell the prescriber about every medicine you take. Do not stop or change your endometriosis treatment on your own; discuss any change with your GP or gynaecologist. Read the patient information leaflet in full before starting, and ask us if anything is unclear.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS if I have endometriosis?
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first. Endometriosis on its own is not a qualifying route, so ask your GP whether you fall within the current groups.
