Can You Take Mounjaro and Testosterone Together? (October 2026)
Many men are prescribed testosterone and Mounjaro (tirzepatide) at the same time, but the decision belongs to your prescribers, not to a forum thread. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection for weight management and type 2 diabetes. Testosterone is a separate hormone treatment for diagnosed deficiency. Tell every prescriber about both medicines before you start either one. Current as of October 2026.

A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Mounjaro and testosterone are different types of medicine, and being prescribed both is a decision for your prescribers, who need the full picture.
-
Online claims that the combination is safe are not clinical evidence. Treat them as opinion.
-
Tell your Mounjaro prescriber, your testosterone prescriber and your GP about everything you take, including gym or non-prescribed products.
-
Report any new or worrying symptom to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.

01 · The core answer
Can you take Mounjaro and testosterone together?
Some people do take them together, but that is different from it being proven safe for you. The two medicines do different jobs. Mounjaro is a dual-action gut-hormone medicine that helps regulate appetite, and it is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes.1 Testosterone replacement is prescribed for confirmed low testosterone, usually under specialist or GP supervision.
The honest position is that your prescribers should know about both and decide with you.
Be wary of confident answers. Summaries that quote online communities as proof of safety are repeating opinion. Individual stories cannot tell you how the combination will behave in your body, given your health history and other medicines.
02 · What to do next
The decisions you are actually facing
Most people asking this fall into one of two groups. Each has a sensible next step.
You already take testosterone and want Mounjaro. Tell us in the consultation. Our free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, who can consider your whole medicine list. Let your testosterone prescriber know too, so both clinicians have the same information.
You take Mounjaro and are being offered testosterone. Tell the person prescribing testosterone that you are using tirzepatide, which dose you are on, and why. Ask whether your monitoring needs to change. Do not start any hormone product from an unregulated source.
If you are looking at Mounjaro for weight management, the Mounjaro pen prices and consultation page shows current doses and costs. For broader context, see our weight loss clinic overview.

04 · What Mounjaro does
What Mounjaro does in the body
Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.
It activates the GIP and GLP-1 receptors. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1
That mechanism concerns appetite and blood sugar. Nothing in it tells us how the medicine behaves alongside a hormone replacement product, which is why the question needs a clinician's judgement rather than a general yes or no.
05 · Does Mounjaro affect testosterone?
Does Mounjaro affect testosterone?
The UK patient leaflet does not list an effect of Mounjaro on testosterone levels.
If symptoms appear or change after starting Mounjaro, do not guess. Speak to your prescriber, who may suggest tests or a review. If a symptom is not on the UK patient leaflet's list, it is not a listed side effect, but tell your prescriber about any new or lasting symptom. Your prescriber can still investigate it, and you can report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19
06 · What to tell prescribers
What to tell your prescribers
Give every prescriber a complete and current medicine list. The patient information leaflet asks you to tell your doctor or pharmacist about all the medicines you take.13 For a combination like this, that means being specific.
- The name, form and schedule of your testosterone treatment, and who prescribes it.
- Your current Mounjaro dose and how long you have been on it.
- Any other medicines, including diabetes treatments, and supplements.
- Any product bought outside regulated channels, such as gym or online-forum products.
- New symptoms since you changed anything.
If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea for diabetes, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar. That is a conversation for your diabetes team. It is a separate matter from testosterone, but the same principle applies: the clinician must see the full list.
Our own related guides tackle specific combinations in the same way, including Mounjaro with glipizide and sermorelin with tirzepatide.
07 · Weight loss on testosterone
Is it hard to lose weight while on testosterone?
Not necessarily, but weight is influenced by many things, and testosterone treatment is only one of them. Your prescriber is the right person to judge what is driving your weight, because it may involve sleep, activity, other conditions or medicines.
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
Those participants were not selected for testosterone treatment, so the figures say nothing about what to expect if you take both. Trial averages do not predict your own result.
08 · Belly fat and testosterone
Will testosterone help lose belly fat?
Ask whoever prescribes your testosterone what to expect from it; Mounjaro is a different matter, because weight management is its licensed purpose.1 It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. If your goal is weight loss, it makes sense to discuss that goal with a prescriber rather than expect one medicine to do the job of another.
Be especially cautious about anyone selling testosterone or similar products for fat loss. Offering to supply a prescription-only medicine without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign. Our pharmacy is GPhC-registered (9012878), and you can check any pharmacy on the public register.12
09 · Online claims and safety
Why forum claims aren't evidence
Posts saying the combination is fine are people describing their own experience, usually without knowing their clinical details. They cannot tell you whether the same will be true for you.
Treat the phrase "stacking" with caution as well. It usually describes combining products for a result, and often includes items bought from unregulated sellers. Counterfeit and unlicensed products are a real concern, and the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme.7
If you notice a suspected side effect from any medicine, report it through Yellow Card.19 You can report a side effect even if you are unsure which product caused it.
The same caution applies to other add-ons. See our guides on GHK-Cu and tirzepatide and glutathione and tirzepatide, which explain how we approach questions with limited evidence.
10 · Stopping and timing
If you change either medicine
Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1
That matters if you are adjusting treatment. Stopping Mounjaro does not remove it from your body straight away, so tell your prescribers when you stopped, not only that you did. Any changes to testosterone treatment should be agreed with whoever prescribes it. Do not change a dose yourself.
11 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
12 · NHS and private access
Getting Mounjaro through the NHS or privately
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
If you go private, our consultation is free, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Ongoing monthly reviews are included.
