In this guide

01 · Private route

How you get Mounjaro privately

You can get Mounjaro privately by completing a free online consultation, which a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Our private prescription guide covers the route in more detail, and you can start without waiting for a GP.

The prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1

02 · Your options

Private prescription, NHS or insurance?

A private prescription is a direct route, the NHS is available if you qualify, and insurance rarely pays.

RouteWho it suitsCost to you
Private prescription (online pharmacy)Adults meeting the licensed criteriaYou pay for the pen: £169.99 standard at 2.5mg, up to £329.99 at 15mg
NHSHighest-need groups first, as access is phased inPrescription charge applies in England
Private medical insuranceRarely relevant for weight management; check your policyDepends on your policy wording

On the NHS, NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions. Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment.46 If you want to try the NHS first, see whether you can get Mounjaro through your GP.

03 · Cost

What it costs and how ordering works

The Mounjaro pen is priced per four-week pen. New customers save £40 on their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25). If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices; a new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less. Consultation is free and the price shown is the price paid.

  • Step 1: complete the free online consultation.
  • Step 2: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your consultation. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Step 3: we dispense and dispatch the same day if ordered by 3pm, with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging.

04 · Does insurance cover it?

Does private health insurance cover Mounjaro?

Most UK private medical insurance policies do not cover weight-loss medicines, though policies differ.

If you want the full picture on injections generally, our guide on whether you can get weight loss injections on private healthcare goes further, and our page on a private prescription explains the practical steps.

05 · Why a prescription matters

Why a real prescription matters

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine supplied only after a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription; the MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting side effects.7 You can check any pharmacy on the GPhC register; ours is registration 9012878. We supply through official LillyDirect, with genuine KwikPens direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.

Be honest on your consultation. Answers shape safety decisions, and our pages on whether you can lie to get Mounjaro explain the risks.

06 · What to expect

What to expect from treatment

Mounjaro is tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection that activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, helping people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals.1 In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone. These are trial averages, and individual results vary.2

Private treatment includes ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and side-effect support from the prescribing team. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping. Browse all weight loss treatments or buy Mounjaro directly. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.
