Can I Take My Mounjaro Pen Abroad? (October 2026)

Yes, you can fly with Mounjaro: carry the pens in hand luggage, because hold luggage can fall below freezing, ideally in a cool bag with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription.13 An in-use pen tolerates up to 30 days not above 30°C, so most holidays need little special planning. Check your destination's rules for prescription injectables before you fly.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Pack pens in hand luggage, never the hold, because hold luggage can fall below freezing.
  • Bring the prescription label or a copy of your prescription, ideally with the pen in a cool bag.
  • An in-use pen can stay out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days.
  • Check the destination country's rules on prescription injectables before you travel.
  • Never use a pen that has been frozen; ask the pharmacy if an unopened pen has been out of the fridge.
In this guide

01 · The decision

Can you take your Mounjaro pen abroad?

Yes, you can take your pen abroad, and flying with it is allowed. The two things that matter are keeping it in your hand luggage and carrying proof that it is yours.13

Hand luggage matters because hold luggage can fall below freezing, and a pen that has been frozen must never be used.1 Treat the pen like any other temperature-sensitive medicine and keep it with you at all times.

02 · Next step

What to do before you go

Start with your destination, because rules on prescription injectables differ between countries.13 Check the embassy or health authority guidance for each country you will pass through, not only where you are staying.

Then work out your pen supply. Each pen holds four weekly doses, so count how many injections fall during your trip and take a little margin for delays. If you are close to running out, plan your next order early through the Mounjaro pen service, which is in stock across all six doses.

03 · Keeping pens cool

Keeping your pen at the right temperature

Pens belong in a fridge at 2–8°C and must never be frozen.1 Once a pen is in use, it can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, after which it should be discarded.1 Pens in use can therefore go on holiday with you without special arrangements.

For hot climates, use an insulated pouch.13 Keep the cap on to protect the pen from light, and do not leave it in a parked car, on a sunny beach or in a safe against an outside wall.

04 · Unopened and spare pens

Unopened and spare pens

Unopened pens should be kept in the fridge and keep until the expiry date printed on the box.13 Hotels and holiday lets usually have a fridge, so ask on arrival if you are carrying spares.

If an unopened pen has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit. Figures circulating online often come from other countries' labels.13 Our guide on preparing your Mounjaro pen explains what to check before each injection.

05 · Paperwork and security

Paperwork and airport security

Carry the pen in its original box with the prescription label, or bring a copy of your prescription.13 This helps if airport staff, border officers or a hotel ask what the pen is.

Keep everything together in one bag so you can show it quickly. For airline or airport specifics, check directly with your airline before you travel, as procedures vary between airports and countries.

06 · Dosing while away

Injecting on holiday and time zones

Mounjaro is injected once a week on the same day, at any time of day, with or without food.1 Crossing time zones does not change that: stay with your usual day. If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within four days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. If more than four days have passed, skip it and take the next one on your normal day.1

You can change your injection day if at least 3 days (72 hours) have passed since your last dose.1 Never share a pen with a travelling companion; see why in our guide to sharing a Mounjaro pen. If something goes wrong with the device, read what to do if your pen malfunctions and confirm each dose by the number in the dose window, as explained in how to use the KwikPen.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
How long can Mounjaro be out of the fridge?
Once a pen is in use, it can be kept out of the fridge not above 30°C for up to 30 days, then it should be discarded. For an unopened pen that has been out of the fridge, check with the pharmacy before using it rather than relying on a remembered day limit.
Can Mounjaro go through airport security?
Yes, you can fly with Mounjaro. Carry the pen in hand luggage with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. Airport procedures vary, so check with your airline and the airports you will pass through before you travel.
Can I fly with a GLP-1 injection?
Yes. For Mounjaro, keep pens in hand luggage rather than the hold, because hold luggage can fall below freezing. Ideally use a cool bag and carry the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. Check destination rules for prescription injectables before you fly.
Do I need to declare Mounjaro on my travel insurance?
Check your policy wording, as insurers differ. Many ask about regular medicines and medical conditions, so it is sensible to tell your insurer you take a prescription injectable and to confirm whether lost or damaged medication is covered.
How do I carry injections on a flight?
Keep the pen in its original box in your hand luggage, with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription, ideally inside a cool bag. Never put it in the hold, and never let it freeze. Our guide to taking Mounjaro on holiday has more.
Do I need a note for travelling with Mounjaro?
The pen should travel with the prescription label or a copy of your prescription. Destination rules for prescription injectables differ, so check them before you fly. If you are unsure what a country requires, ask its embassy or your prescriber.
What if my pen freezes or gets too hot abroad?
Never use a pen that has been frozen. In-use pens tolerate up to 30 days not above 30°C, but do not use a pen that has been above 30°C; in hot climates an insulated pouch helps. If you are unsure whether a pen is still usable, contact the pharmacy before injecting.
