  • Report any new symptom to your prescriber and through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you take Mounjaro with tamoxifen?

It may be possible, but it needs individual clinical sign-off.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is licensed in the UK for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Your oncologist is best placed to say whether weight management medicine fits alongside your breast cancer treatment plan. You can also read about tamoxifen and weight loss drugs.

02 · Your next step

What to do next if you are on tamoxifen

Start with a conversation, not an order. Ask your oncology team or breast care nurse whether a weight-loss injection is appropriate for you, and ask your pharmacist to check your full medicine list against the product information.

If they agree, you can start a free consultation, where a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Include tamoxifen and any other medicines or conditions.

If the prescriber has any doubt, they can decline, and an unsuitable order is refunded automatically.

03 · What we can and cannot say

Checking this combination

The Summary of Product Characteristics and the patient information leaflet are the documents to check, and a pharmacist can walk through them with you.113 An AI summary or forum post is not a substitute for them.

Treat any confident online claim that the pairing is fine, or forbidden, with caution unless it comes from your own clinicians.

04 · How Mounjaro works

How Mounjaro works, and why it matters for other medicines

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1

Most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet. Because the stomach empties more slowly, Mounjaro can affect how quickly some oral medicines are absorbed, particularly when you start treatment or increase the dose. Tell your prescriber about everything you take.

Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days. After a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system, and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 If your oncology team ever asks you to stop, that is the timescale to mention.

05 · Questions for your oncology team

Questions to ask your oncology team

Go to the appointment with specific questions, because it makes the answer more useful. Consider asking:

  • Is a weight-management injection appropriate given my diagnosis and treatment plan?
  • Is there a stage of treatment when it would be better to wait?
  • Which symptoms should make me stop and call you?
  • Who will monitor me if I start, and how often?
  • Are there other supports for weight on hormone therapy that suit me better?

Ask them to put their advice in your notes, then share it with the prescriber reviewing your consultation. If you notice any new symptom after starting, tell your prescriber and report it through the Yellow Card scheme.19

06 · Weight, cancer and symptoms

Weight changes, cancer and when to see your GP

The practical rule is simple: weight changes you cannot explain belong with your GP or oncology team, not with a weight-loss product.

Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 It does not treat cancer, and it should never be used to chase weight loss that has an unexplained cause.

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 Your oncology team may also be able to refer you to NHS weight support.

07 · Declaring your medicines

Why declaring tamoxifen matters in a consultation

Mounjaro is prescription-only and supplied after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. The review works only if it has the full picture.

Include tamoxifen, any other cancer treatment, your oncology contact details and any medicines for other conditions. If you also use insulin or similar diabetes treatments, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar.1

Individual results vary, and this page is information, not a substitute for medical advice. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I take Mounjaro with tamoxifen?
It needs individual clinical sign-off. Speak to your oncology team or breast care nurse first, then declare tamoxifen in a consultation so a GPhC-registered prescriber can review your full medicine list.
Is Mounjaro safe to use with tamoxifen?
Safety depends on your own history and treatment plan. Check the product leaflet, ask your pharmacist, and get your oncologist's view before starting. Report any new symptom to your prescriber and via the Yellow Card scheme.
Can cancer patients take Mounjaro?
That is a decision for your cancer care team and a prescriber. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes in adults, not as a cancer treatment. Your individual diagnosis, treatment stage and general health all matter, so get your oncologist's advice before ordering.
What medications cannot be taken with Mounjaro?
Mounjaro slows stomach emptying, which can reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed, and doses of insulin or sulfonylureas may need reducing to avoid low blood sugar. The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1 Always list every medicine you take in your consultation so the prescriber can review the whole picture.
What medications should I avoid while taking tamoxifen?
Ask your oncologist or pharmacist, as they hold your full records and the tamoxifen product information. Check any new medicine, supplement or weight-loss product with a pharmacist before you start it.
Why is it so hard to lose weight on tamoxifen?
If weight is a concern, raise it with your oncology team or GP. They can look at your whole picture and tell you which support is suitable, including whether a weight-management medicine is appropriate.
Can undiagnosed breast cancer cause weight changes?
Unexplained weight changes, up or down, should always be checked by a GP. Do not use a weight-loss medicine to manage a change you cannot explain. If you have any breast symptoms, see your GP promptly.
How long does Mounjaro stay in the body if I need to stop?
Tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so after a final dose it takes roughly four to five weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up, and nothing needs doing while it clears. Tell your oncology team if they ask you to stop.
