Can You Put Mounjaro in Checked Luggage? (October 2026)
No, you should not put Mounjaro in checked luggage. Carry your pens in your cabin bag instead, so they stay with you, stay cool and are not lost if a suitcase is delayed. Bring the prescription label or a prescriber's letter, and tell airport security you are carrying injectable medicine. Check your airline's rules before you fly. Guidance as of October 2026.

A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
Keep Mounjaro pens in your cabin bag, not in the hold, where you cannot control the conditions or reach them.
-
Unopened pens belong in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use; an in-use pen can stay out of the fridge for up to 30 days (not above 30°C).
-
Carry the pharmacy label or a prescriber's letter, and keep pens in their original packaging.
-
Pack spare pens and needles in your cabin bag too, so a delayed suitcase cannot interrupt your weekly dose.
-
Rules differ by airline and country, so check before you travel, especially for long trips or non-UK destinations.
In this guide
01 · The short answer
Should Mounjaro go in checked luggage?
No. Mounjaro pens should travel in your hand luggage, because checked bags can be delayed, rerouted or lost, and you cannot control the conditions in the hold. Mounjaro is a prescription medicine that needs proper storage, so keep your pens with you.
There are three practical reasons to keep it with you:
- Storage. Unopened pens are kept in the fridge at 2–8°C until first use, and they keep until the printed expiry date. You can manage that in the cabin, not in the hold.1
- Access. If your bag does not arrive, a weekly dose could be missed while you try to find a replacement abroad.
- Proof. Security staff may ask about injectable medicine. It is far easier to show a labelled box at the screening point than to explain it later.
02 · Your next step
What should you do before you fly?
Plan around your injection day and your trip length. If your weekly dose falls during the trip, pack the pen you are using plus a spare, both in your cabin bag. If you are travelling for longer, make sure your supply covers the whole trip, with a little extra in case of delays.
Ask your airline about its medicine and sharps policy, and check the rules of your destination country if you are leaving the UK. If you are still deciding on treatment, the Mounjaro pen starts at £169.99 for 2.5mg and every dose is in stock. Our weight loss clinic explains how a consultation works.

03 · Storage while travelling
How to keep Mounjaro cool while travelling
Unopened Mounjaro pens are stored in the fridge until first use, at 2–8°C, and they keep until the printed expiry date.1 If a pen is unopened and you are unsure how long it has been out of the fridge, check the patient information leaflet and ask your pharmacy rather than guessing.13
Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen.1 That makes a normal holiday manageable for the pen you are currently using, as long as you keep it in its original packaging and away from direct heat.
A small insulated medical travel pouch is a sensible accessory for the journey to and from the airport. Do not let a pen come into direct contact with an ice pack, and keep it away from anywhere it could freeze. Our guides on whether Mounjaro goes in the fridge and the best place to store Mounjaro cover home storage in more detail.
04 · Paperwork and security
What paperwork should you carry?
Carry your prescription label on the original box, and ideally a short letter from your prescriber confirming the medicine, its purpose and that you inject it yourself. Keep the pen in its original packaging, because loose pens in a wash bag are harder to explain.
At security, tell the officer you have injectable medicine and show the box. Medicine is usually screened separately from the rest of your bag, so keep it somewhere easy to reach. Liquid and sharps rules vary by airport and country, so check your departure airport's guidance before you travel.
You do not generally need to put prescription medicine in a clear bag, but a transparent pouch can speed up the check. Pack needles and a small travel sharps container for used needles, and ask your airline whether it has any requirements. Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance come with every order from us.
05 · If your bag is lost
What if medicine is already in a checked bag?
If your pens are already in a checked suitcase, you cannot move them once it has been dropped off. Contact the airline straight away if the bag is delayed, and ask your pharmacy or prescriber what to do if a dose is due before it arrives.
If a pen may have been exposed to extremes of temperature, do not use it on the strength of a guess. Contact the pharmacy that supplied it. Our guide on what to do if you forgot to put Mounjaro in the fridge explains the same caution.
06 · Flying abroad
Taking Mounjaro abroad
Rules on carrying prescription injectables differ between countries, and some require extra documentation. Check the embassy or official health guidance for your destination well before you fly. Take only what you need for the trip, and carry it in your cabin bag both ways.
Plan around your injection day. You can usually inject at home before you leave or after you return, but if the day falls mid-trip, work out in advance where you will inject and where the pen will be kept cool. Hotel fridges are common, but check yours before you rely on it.
07 · Getting supply sorted
Getting your supply ready before a trip
Order well ahead, so a delivery is not cutting close to your departure. We are a GPhC-registered pharmacy (9012878) and supply genuine KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply. Delivery is free, next-day and tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm.
Repeat orders re-check suitability and there is no auto-shipping, so allow time for the prescriber review.
How ordering works
How ordering works at EverydayMeds
Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.
Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes
Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.
Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day
A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.
Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery
Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.
Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.
Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.
