In this guide
01 · Current prices
What weight loss injections cost in the UK right now
The honest answer to whether weight loss drugs are coming down in price is that, for Mounjaro in the UK, the last major list-price move was upward. Eli Lilly announced on 14 August 2025 that list prices would rise from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month depending on dose, effective 1 September 2025. That is an increase of up to 170% on the highest dose.10
What pharmacies actually charge is a separate question, because sell prices vary with confidential discounts. Across the UK pharmacies we track, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pen at any dose run from £143.96 to £339.00 per month. For the 2.5mg starting pen alone the range is £143.96 to £179.99. For the same dose, the gap between providers is anywhere from £27 to £41. Boots' Mounjaro doses run from £179.00 to £339.00. That index was checked on 12 October 2026.
So the practical lesson is that the provider you choose moves your cost more than waiting does. Our standard price for one pen (four weeks) at the starting dose is £169.99 on the Mounjaro pen page, and each dose has its own standard price: £218.99 at 5mg, £279.99 at 7.5mg, £290.99 at 10mg, £319.99 at 12.5mg and £329.99 at 15mg. A new customer saves £40 on their first order at any dose with code FIRST40, including people switching to us from another provider at a higher dose. After that, an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).
02 · Planning
What a year of treatment costs, so you can plan
Rather than waiting for a price drop that may not come, work out your total. These figures are standard prices before any discount. A new customer's first order is £40 less, and every later order is £25 less.
| Phase | Length | Pens | Standard cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| First four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) | At least 4 weeks on each dose | 4 | £959.96 |
| First year, settling at 5mg | 52 weeks | 13 | £2,711.88 |
| First year, settling at 15mg | 52 weeks | 13 | £3,599.88 |
| Settling at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg | Per pen | 1 per 4 weeks | £279.99, £290.99 or £319.99 per month |
A first year costs £2,711.88 if you settle at 5mg, up to £3,599.88 at 15mg. Many people do not need the top dose, and your prescriber sets your dose according to your response and tolerability, not according to price. Because each pen is four weekly doses, the weekly equivalents are £42.50 at 2.5mg, £54.75 at 5mg, £70.00 at 7.5mg, £72.75 at 10mg, £80.00 at 12.5mg and £82.50 at 15mg.
03 · Decision
Should you wait for prices to fall?
Waiting only makes sense if you are not ready to start or your clinical situation allows it. A more useful approach is to compare current provider prices, check the total over a year, and choose a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register.
Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition, alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, history and medicines before deciding if it suits you.1 Our consultation is free and carries no obligation, so you can see whether you are suitable before committing anything. You can start your free consultation online, and the price shown is the price paid, with no hidden fees.
Complete the free online health questionnaire, and a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews it. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Our registered pharmacy then dispenses it, with same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm and free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging. All six doses are in stock, supplied through official LillyDirect supply. Klarna and pay-monthly options are available, with no subscription lock-in.
04 · The UK list price rise
What happened to the UK list price of Mounjaro
The most important price event for UK buyers was an increase. Eli Lilly's statement of 14 August 2025 set out an agreement to raise the UK list price of Mounjaro, effective 1 September 2025.10 List prices moved from £92–£122 per month to £133–£330 per month depending on dose, which is an increase of up to 170% on the highest dose.10
| Measure | Before 1 September 2025 | From 1 September 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly list price range | £92–£122 | £133–£330 |
| Largest rise | n/a | Up to 170% on the highest dose |
A list price is what the manufacturer charges the supply chain. It is not the same as what you pay, because pharmacies negotiate confidential discounts and set their own sell prices. That is why you can see quite different prices for the same pen at the same dose. Our own prices are shown live on the site rather than written into articles, so they stay current, and each one is dated 12 October 2026.
If you have seen headlines about weight loss drugs getting cheaper, check where they come from. Some stories describe other countries or other products, with different pricing systems and different routes to market.
It also helps to separate three things people often mix together: the manufacturer's list price, a pharmacy's sell price, and what the NHS pays. Only the first is set by Lilly. The second is a commercial decision by each pharmacy. The third is negotiated at national level and is not something a private customer sees. When a headline says prices are "falling", ask which of the three it means, in which country, and for which product. If it does not say, it cannot tell you what you will pay at a UK pharmacy today.
For a broader view of how this question is evolving, see our related guides on whether Mounjaro is coming down in price and how GLP-1 prices are moving.
05 · Why pharmacy prices differ
Why the same pen costs different amounts at different pharmacies
Pharmacy prices differ because each provider sets its own sell price, and the discounts they receive are confidential. Our price index tracks the UK pharmacies we monitor and was last checked on 12 October 2026. Across those pharmacies, the cheapest and dearest Mounjaro pen at any dose run from £143.96 to £339.00 per month. That is a spread across all six doses and every provider, so it should not be read as a starting-dose price.
For the 2.5mg starting pen specifically, the range is £143.96 to £179.99. When you compare the same dose between providers, the gap runs from £27 at the narrowest to £41 at the widest. That gap matters over a year, because a person on treatment buys 13 pens in 52 weeks, so a small monthly difference compounds.
Boots' Mounjaro dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00. Prices change, and a figure from last year is not a reliable guide.
When comparing, make sure you are matching like for like:
- the same dose and the same number of weekly doses per pen;
- whether the first-order price differs from the repeat price;
- whether the consultation is free or charged separately;
- whether delivery is included, and whether it is temperature-controlled;
- whether the pharmacy appears on the GPhC register.
Our own standard price is £169.99 for the 2.5mg pen, with £40 off a first order using code FIRST40, and £25 off every later order. Our consultation is free, delivery is free next-day tracked, and we price-check and date every comparison so you can see how current it is. You can see the live numbers and add a pen from the Mounjaro pen prices and consultation page.
One more point on reading these numbers: a very low price from an unfamiliar seller is not a bargain if the pen is not genuine.
06 · What could change prices
What could realistically change prices, and what cannot be promised
No one can honestly tell you when, or whether, UK prices will fall, but you can understand the forces involved.
The first force is the manufacturer's list price. Lilly sets it, and the last documented move was the September 2025 increase.10 Any future change would come from the manufacturer, and we would reflect it in our live prices.
The second is pharmacy competition. Providers set their own sell prices within what their supply terms allow, which is why our index shows a spread between providers for the same dose. Competition can narrow or widen that spread, but it works within the list price, not around it.
The third is NHS access. Mounjaro is available on the NHS, with access being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.46 NHS rollout does not change what a private pharmacy charges, but it does mean some people who qualify can be treated without paying privately.
The fourth is the arrival of other treatments. Newer products, including GLP-1 tablets, are now licensed in the UK.
Given all this, here is a sensible way to think about it:
- Treat today's price as the price you plan around.
- If a lower price arrives, you benefit when you reorder, because we do not auto-ship and each repeat order re-checks your suitability.
- Do not delay treatment you need on the strength of a rumour.
- Ignore claims of imminent price collapses unless they cite a manufacturer or regulator.

07 · NHS or private route
NHS or private: which route costs you what
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years, so many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.6 Which route is right depends on your clinical position and how soon you want to start.
On the NHS, NICE recommends Mounjaro for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40 or above with four or more qualifying conditions.46 Full rollout is expected to take years. An NHS prescription in England carries the standard prescription charge of £9.90 per item unless you are exempt, though your GP practice or local service will confirm how it applies to you.
Privately, the licence is wider than the first NHS groups. Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity.1 That means someone who does not yet meet the NHS entry point may still be eligible for private treatment, subject to a prescriber's assessment of BMI, medical history and current medicines.
| Question | NHS | Private |
|---|---|---|
| Who is considered first? | Highest-need groups, phased over years | Adults within the licensed criteria, after prescriber review |
| Cost to you | Prescription charge where applicable | Pen price plus any provider fees; ours: free consultation, price shown is price paid |
| Waiting | Depends on local rollout | Depends on prescriber approval and dispatch |
If you are unsure whether you fall within the current NHS groups, ask your GP. If you would rather start privately, our weight loss treatments overview sets out the options we offer. Either way, the decision should rest on suitability and your own circumstances, and a prescriber will tell you honestly if treatment is not right for you.
08 · Is it worth the cost
Is the price worth it? What the trial evidence says
Cost only makes sense next to what the treatment is shown to do. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.
To make that concrete, for someone starting at 100 kg, 20.9% is about 21 kg and 15% is about 15 kg. Those are straight arithmetic from the trial percentages, not a prediction for any one person.
The trial also reported how many people reached particular thresholds. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight. Half of participants on 10mg and 57% on 15mg lost at least 20% of their body weight.2
Your prescriber decides your dose according to how you respond and tolerate treatment, so you should not choose a dose on price alone.
How Mounjaro works also shapes value. Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1 It is once-weekly, which keeps the routine simple.
Our aftercare is included rather than extra: ongoing monthly reviews, dose titration and follow-up assessments by the prescribing team, plus side-effect support Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The free GLPTrackr app helps you keep your own records. All of this sits inside the price you see.
09 · Cutting cost safely
Ways to manage cost safely
The safe ways to lower the cost of treatment are to compare providers and use the discounts that apply.
So what can you do?
- Use the discounts. New customers save £40 on their first order with code FIRST40, and an automatic £25 reorder discount applies to every future order (code DOSE25).
- Spread payment. Klarna and pay-monthly options are available, with no subscription lock-in.
- Plan the exit. If you intend to stop at some point, ask for a prescriber-planned approach with diet and activity support.
Another point worth knowing: after a final dose, tirzepatide has a half-life of about five days, so it takes roughly 4–5 weeks to clear the system. There is no way to speed this up and nothing needs doing while it clears.1 That is part of why changes should be planned with your prescriber rather than improvised to save a month's cost.
10 · Counterfeits and low prices
Why a very low price should make you cautious
The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified. Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.7
The protective rule is simple: only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, and never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites.12 Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation. A seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is a warning sign in itself, whatever the price.
Genuine UK stock is supplied through Lilly's official distribution to licensed pharmacies, and every pen carries a batch number and expiry date that can be checked. Our registration is GPhC 9012878, and our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply, direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution.
On receipt, here is how to check a pen. A genuine UK Mounjaro pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless.13 Do not use a pen that:
- has been frozen;
- looks cloudy or discoloured;
- has particles in it;
- is past its expiry;
- has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use, or has been above 30°C.
If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting. If you experience any new symptom after a dose, speak to your prescriber, and you can report suspected side effects through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.7 Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
A bargain that costs you your health is not a bargain. The honest comparison is between verified pharmacies, and our index only tracks providers in that category.
11 · Other and upcoming options
Alternatives, and what is coming next
Wegovy (semaglutide). This is a once-weekly injection with a dose ladder of 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg. Titration steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17, and 2.4mg is the licensed maintenance dose for weight management.18 Your first Wegovy pen with us costs £99.99 as a first-order price. Check availability at the time of order. NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.
Liraglutide. Saxenda, and products such as Erly, are supplied at 6mg per millilitre and are daily injections, unlike once-weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy. Figures for dosing and results vary, so your prescriber can advise.
GLP-1 tablets. Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide) and Foundayo (orforglipron) are licensed tablet options with their own product information. See current tablet prices on the weight loss treatments page, and do not read their trial results as head-to-head with Mounjaro's, because they are different trials in different populations.
SURMOUNT-5 is the first large head-to-head trial of tirzepatide and semaglutide for weight loss.15 Beyond that, comparing numbers from separate trials, such as SURMOUNT-1 and STEP 1, is not a fair test, because the participants and designs differ.
As for "up and coming" weight loss drugs, treat any medicine still in development or not licensed in the UK as unavailable. Unlicensed products sold online are not an alternative; they are a risk. If you want to explore what is licensed and suitable for you, a prescriber can talk it through in a free online consultation. After the price increase, the practical answer is to compare verified providers, check the year total, and consider a different licensed treatment if your prescriber agrees it fits.
