01 · The core answer
Which appetite suppressant is right for you?
A licensed prescription medicine used under clinical supervision is a different thing from a supplement, and which medicine suits you is for the prescriber to decide. Tirzepatide, sold as Mounjaro, is a once-weekly injection licensed in the UK for weight management in adults.1 It activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties.1
That is a different thing from the "appetite suppressant" pills sold online. Some of those products make dramatic weight-loss claims, yet they are sold without any consultation, prescriber review or follow-up. If a product promises specific results, treat the promise as a warning sign.
| Option | How it works | Evidence and oversight |
|---|---|---|
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) | Dual GIP and GLP-1 action; fuller sooner, less hungry between meals; once-weekly injection | Licensed in the UK; prescriber-reviewed; trial results published |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) | Single-action GLP-1 medicine; once-weekly injection with a dose ladder reaching 2.4mg | Licensed in the UK; prescriber-reviewed |
| Liraglutide (Saxenda and similar) | Daily injection supplied at 6mg/ml | Licensed; prescriber-reviewed; figures vary, so your prescriber can advise |
| Berberine, herbal blends, "nature's Ozempic" | Marketing claims; dosing is not standardised | Low-cost supplement, no clinical oversight |
| Food and lifestyle changes | Protein, fibre, fluids, regular meals, movement | Safe, free and worth doing alongside any medicine |
02 · Your decision
Is a prescription appetite suppressant right for you?
A prescription option is relevant if you are an adult who meets the licensed criteria and want help with appetite alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary.1
If hunger is a general nuisance and you do not meet any weight-management criteria, the practical tips on food, fluids and activity will help more than any pill. If you do meet the criteria, you can read how our weight loss clinic works, or see current prices and start a free consultation on the Mounjaro pen page. As an example, your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99). Every later order is £25 off the standard price.
03 · How Mounjaro curbs hunger
How Mounjaro suppresses appetite
Mounjaro works on gut-hormone signals rather than stimulating the brain. Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1
In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.1 This dual action is what distinguishes it from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic).1
It is not a stimulant and does not work by speeding you up. It changes how hungry you feel and how quickly meals leave your stomach. That is why smaller, slower meals tend to suit people on treatment.
04 · How long until it works
How long does it take to suppress appetite?
Experiences differ widely. Some people notice an appetite change and early loss in week one, while others feel little until a higher dose, and both are normal.1 The 2.5mg starting weeks are about adjustment, not weight loss itself.1
Everyone starts on 2.5mg once a week. After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg, then can step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1 Higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber guides the pace.
Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month. Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days, and judge progress by trend, not individual weigh-ins.1
Early loss includes water weight. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.13
05 · Curbing hunger without medicine
How to stop feeling hungry without medicine
The most reliable way to feel less hungry is to build each meal around protein, vegetables and fibre, and to drink regularly. No food is banned on treatment, and the same sensible pattern helps without it.1 The aim is a sustainable calorie deficit, not a perfect food list.
Practical habits that help with hunger cravings:
- Include a protein source at every meal, so you stay satisfied for longer.
- Add vegetables and fibre to fill the plate without large portions.
- Keep water within reach, since thirst is easy to mistake for hunger.
- Eat smaller meals more slowly; large portions sit heavily when the stomach empties more slowly.
- Be wary of very fatty, fried or very sugary food, which many people feel worse after.
- Watch high-calorie coffee drinks, an easy place for a calorie deficit to leak.
Plain coffee and tea do not interact with Mounjaro. Strong coffee on an empty stomach can aggravate nausea or reflux for some people. The "coffee rules" circulating on social media have no clinical basis.
Nothing here lets you suppress hunger without eating forever. If you are constantly hungry despite regular balanced meals, speak to a pharmacist or GP rather than skipping meals.
06 · Protein, muscle and movement
Protein, muscle and exercise when appetite is low
Protecting muscle matters more as appetite falls. Some of any rapid weight loss comes from lean tissue, and protecting muscle protects your metabolism, strength and appearance. The levers are adequate protein at every meal, which is harder when appetite is low, and resistance exercise two or more times a week.1
Increased physical activity is part of the licence, not an optional extra. Regular moderate activity such as brisk walking, plus resistance work, is the evidence-backed pattern. Start where you are and build. On injection days with early side effects, lighter movement still counts. Exercise also protects against regain if you later stop treatment.
07 · Supplements and natural options
Natural appetite suppressants and "natural Ozempic"
Natural appetite suppressants are low-cost supplements with no clinical oversight, and none replicates how a prescription gut-hormone medicine works. Berberine, herbal blends and fibre products are sold as "natural Ozempic" or ways to mimic Ozempic naturally. They do not act on the same gut-hormone receptors, and their dosing is not standardised.
These products are available cheaply without any assessment, which is their appeal and their risk. Nobody checks whether they suit your health conditions or other medicines.
If you want to explore specific ingredients, we have separate explainers on the Ayurveda approach, L-tyrosine, L-phenylalanine and nootropic stacks. For a broader overview, see what makes a great appetite suppressant. If your issue is the opposite problem, there is a guide to the opposite of an appetite suppressant.
08 · Tablets and newer medicines
Is there a pill that stops cravings?
There is no tablet equivalent to Mounjaro in the sense of the same drug, because Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection. Oral GLP-1 tablets exist, including Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, but they are different medicines with their own licences. You can see current Wegovy tablet prices on the product pages.
Be cautious of any seller offering to supply it or any prescription medicine without a consultation or prescription. Counterfeit medicines are a genuine risk, and suspected fakes or side effects can be reported through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.7
09 · Safety and what not to do
Safety: hydration and alcohol
Staying hydrated matters more than usual on an appetite-reducing medicine. Reduced appetite means less fluid from food, and vomiting or diarrhoea can dehydrate you quickly, which is the main route to the rare kidney problems reported with this class.13 If you cannot keep fluids down, get medical help straight away rather than pushing through.
If you drink alcohol, note that there is no direct interaction with Mounjaro, but drinking on a reduced appetite and emptier stomach can hit harder than usual. With insulin or a sulfonylurea, alcohol increases the risk of low blood sugar. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.
10 · NHS and private access
NHS and private access to appetite-suppressing medicines
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.
Our service is a free online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber (GPhC 9012878), with free next-day tracked delivery in temperature-controlled packaging and ongoing monthly reviews. Mounjaro comes direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution via official LillyDirect supply. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
