A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Ask a pharmacist before combining any antihistamine with Mounjaro, and check the patient information leaflet.
  • Mounjaro slows how quickly the stomach empties, so mention every oral medicine you take to your prescriber.
  • Antihistamines come in many types; the right one depends on your symptoms and your other medicines.
  • A new rash or reaction after injecting should be discussed with your prescriber and can be reported via Yellow Card.
  • Never stop or change Mounjaro because of an allergy symptom without clinical advice.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can you take an antihistamine with Mounjaro?

The honest answer is: ask before you combine them. A pharmacist who knows your full medicine list can advise on taking an antihistamine on Mounjaro.113

Antihistamines are a large group. Some cause drowsiness, some do not, and some are combined with other ingredients in cold and flu products. That is why the specific product matters more than the word "antihistamine".

02 · What to do next

The decisions you are actually facing

Most readers are in one of two situations. Either you already take Mounjaro and have hay fever or hives, or you have an allergy and are considering starting treatment.

  • Already on Mounjaro: tell the pharmacist which antihistamine you want, and mention Mounjaro. Our prescribing team can also advise during your monthly review.
  • Thinking of starting: list your regular and over-the-counter medicines during the free consultation, so the prescriber sees the whole picture.

03 · Why timing and absorption matter

Stomach emptying and oral medicines

Tirzepatide activates GIP and GLP-1 receptors, which helps regulate appetite and slows how quickly the stomach empties.1 That is a reason to mention every tablet, liquid or capsule you take, antihistamines included.

This effect on absorption is most noticeable when you start treatment or increase the dose, so tell your prescriber about everything you take — especially warfarin or other narrow-margin medicines, insulin, or sulfonylureas (where doses may need reducing to avoid low blood sugar).1

04 · Reactions after injecting

Redness, itching or rash after injecting

Some people notice skin changes where they inject. Do not assume an antihistamine is the answer. Describe the reaction to your prescriber, especially if it spreads, keeps returning or comes with other symptoms. For severe stomach pain, swelling of the face or throat, or difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away.

Any suspected side effect can be reported through the Yellow Card scheme.19

05 · Other medicines to mention

Other medicines worth flagging

Allergy symptoms rarely come alone. If you use insulin or sulfonylureas, doses may need adjusting because of the risk of low blood sugar. Tirzepatide can also reduce absorption of oral contraceptives because stomach emptying slows.17 The SmPC advises switching to a non-oral method, or adding a barrier method (such as condoms), for 4 weeks after starting Mounjaro and for 4 weeks after each dose increase.1

Our guide to antihistamines while on Mounjaro covers the same ground in question-and-answer form.

06 · Using Mounjaro safely

Using Mounjaro safely

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Our team offers ongoing monthly reviews and side-effect support, so you can raise allergy questions at any point rather than guessing.

07 · Serious side effects

Serious side effects: when to get help straight away

Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can I take antihistamines with Mounjaro?
Read the patient information leaflet, tell your pharmacist which antihistamine you want to use, and mention Mounjaro. If you are one of our customers, you can also ask the prescribing team at your monthly review. They know your full medicine list.
What medications cannot be taken with Mounjaro?
There is no single short list. Insulin and sulfonylureas may need dose adjustments because of low blood sugar risk, and oral contraceptives may be absorbed less because stomach emptying slows. Always give your prescriber a full list of prescription and over-the-counter medicines before starting.
Which antihistamine causes weight gain?
If you are concerned about weight changes while using an antihistamine and Mounjaro, speak to a pharmacist or prescriber, who can review the specific medicine you take.
Can an antihistamine treat a reaction at the injection site?
Do not self-treat without advice. Describe the reaction to your prescriber, particularly if it spreads or returns. They can judge whether it needs treatment. You can also report suspected side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.
Can I drink antihistamines every night?
Whether regular nightly use is suitable depends on the specific product, your health and your other medicines. Check the leaflet and ask a pharmacist, mentioning that you use Mounjaro. Persistent symptoms that need daily treatment are worth discussing with a GP.
Is it better to take antihistamines at night or in the morning?
That depends on the product, as some can cause drowsiness and others are designed not to. Follow the leaflet for your specific antihistamine. Your pharmacist can help you choose a timing that suits your routine and your weekly Mounjaro injection day.
Should I stop Mounjaro if I develop an allergy or rash?
Do not stop or change your dose without clinical advice. Contact your prescriber, describe the symptom and when it started. For swelling of the face, lips or throat, or difficulty breathing, get medical help straight away. Report it through the Yellow Card scheme if you suspect the medicine.
