A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Licensed Mounjaro sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else injects; rotate the site each dose.
  • Mounjaro is a once-weekly KwikPen, so you choose a site only once a week and can plan it calmly.
  • If you are unsure about technique or a site, ask your prescriber or pharmacist before injecting rather than guessing.
  • Needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance are included with every EverydayMeds order.
  • Report any new or worrying symptom to your prescriber, and you can report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Where can I put my GLP-1 shot?

Mounjaro licensed injection sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.13 Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week using a pre-filled KwikPen.1

Because the shot is weekly rather than daily, you have time to read the leaflet, look at the pen's instructions and decide on a site before each dose. If you have not yet started, our guide to how to put Mounjaro in walks through the full routine step by step.

02 · Your decision

How do I decide which site suits me?

Pick the site you can reach comfortably, see clearly and keep still while you inject. Comfort and visibility matter more than any internet claim about a particular spot.

Two practical questions help you choose:

  • Can I see and reach it? If a site needs awkward twisting, or someone else's help, you are more likely to rush or make a mistake.
  • Does clothing or a waistband press on it? A site that is irritated by fabric may be more uncomfortable afterwards.

If neither option feels right, speak to your prescriber. They can talk through the sites in the leaflet with you, and our guide to taking a GLP-1 injection covers the routine around it.

03 · What next

What should I do next?

If you already have a pen, read the leaflet and the pen's own instructions, then inject on the same day each week, rotating the site each time. If you are still comparing options, our weight loss clinic explains the assessment, and the Mounjaro pen page shows live prices and starts the free consultation. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99).

04 · Before your first shot

Before your first shot: what to check

Preparation removes most first-injection nerves. Read the leaflet from start to finish, and keep it with the pen so you can check it again if you hesitate.13 Our guide to preparing for a GLP-1 shot lists everything to have to hand.

Store unopened pens in the fridge until first use; they keep until the printed expiry date. Once you start a pen, it can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or frozen.1 Before you inject, check the solution is clear and colourless; do not use a pen that looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it or is past its expiry.

Every EverydayMeds order includes needles, a sharps bin and injection guidance, so you do not have to source them yourself. Delivery is free, next-day and tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, and orders placed by 3pm are dispatched the same day.

05 · Technique questions

Pinching, rotating and other technique questions

Rotate the site with each dose, and follow the pen's own instructions for technique.

If the leaflet leaves a question unanswered, ask the prescribing team. Our monthly reviews exist for this kind of practical question, and support is available Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, on 0333 207 0413 or at support@everydaymeds.co.uk.

Never improvise with off-label approaches such as altering the amount you inject. If you think a dose went wrong, our guide on what happens if you miss a GLP-1 shot explains what to do next, and your prescriber can advise on any other worry.

06 · Why the site is not the main event

Does the injection site change your results?

Results come from the medicine, the dose and the lifestyle changes around it, not from a particular spot. Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, which help regulate appetite and slow how quickly the stomach empties.1

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages; individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

07 · Mounjaro versus other pens

Mounjaro, Wegovy, Ozempic and daily injections

Each GLP-1 product has its own pen, so use the leaflet that matches yours. Mounjaro is a once-weekly KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 Wegovy is also weekly, with pens at 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg, stepping up after at least four weeks to the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17.18 You can read about the Wegovy pen on its product page.

Liraglutide, supplied as Saxenda and similar products, is a daily injection at 6mg per millilitre, unlike weekly Mounjaro and Wegovy.

Do not apply instructions from one pen to another.

08 · Getting treatment

How to get a GLP-1 pen in the UK

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).4 Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting.

Privately, the route is a free online consultation, a review by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and dispensing by our registered pharmacy (GPhC 9012878). Our guide to how to get GLP-1 injections compares the options. Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, and individual results vary.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Where can I inject a GLP-1 shot?
For Mounjaro, use the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose and choose one you can see and reach comfortably.
How do I give myself a GLP-1 shot?
Follow the instructions that come with your pen, because each product is used slightly differently. Read the leaflet first, check the pen, choose a site and inject once a week on the same day, rotating the site each dose. Our guide to how to take a GLP-1 injection gives the full routine, and your prescriber can answer questions.
Should I pinch my skin when injecting Ozempic?
Follow the instructions for the pen you are using, as the leaflet or your prescriber will say whether pinching applies. If the instructions are unclear, ask the pharmacist or prescriber before your next dose.
Does the injection site change how well a GLP-1 medicine works?
The medicine's effect comes from the dose and the lifestyle changes alongside it, not from a particular site. For Mounjaro, choose from the licensed sites and rotate them. For Ozempic, which is licensed for type 2 diabetes only, check its own leaflet; for Mounjaro, see how to put Mounjaro in.
Is it better to inject Ozempic in the morning or at night?
Mounjaro works the same morning or evening, with or without food, so the key point is the same day each week. For Ozempic, check its leaflet or ask your prescriber about timing.
How much weight can you lose on GLP-1 in three months?
Three months in, most people are still on the lower rungs of the dose ladder, so trial-average losses at this stage are modest compared with the headline figures: in SURMOUNT-1, the full 15–21% averages were measured at 72 weeks, not 12. A sensible 3-month expectation on a standard titration is mid single digits as a percentage of body weight, with wide individual variation. Slower early progress does not predict failure.
Can you drink alcohol while on Mounjaro?
There is no direct interaction between Mounjaro and alcohol, but drinking on a reduced appetite and emptier stomach can hit harder than usual. If you also take insulin or a sulfonylurea, alcohol increases the risk of low blood sugar. Moderation is the sensible rule.
