A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • There is no licensed oral tirzepatide in the UK; Mounjaro is a once-weekly injection.
  • Two GLP-1 tablets are licensed: Wegovy tablets and Foundayo, which is made by Eli Lilly.
  • Pills, drops or sprays sold as "oral tirzepatide" are not approved UK medicines.
  • No trial compares Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results should not be set side by side.
  • A prescriber can help you decide between injection and tablet.
In this guide

01 · The answer

Is oral tirzepatide available in the UK?

No. Mounjaro is a once-weekly injectable made by Eli Lilly, supplied as a pre-filled KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1

If you see pills, drops or sprays described as oral tirzepatide, treat them with caution. They are not licensed UK medicines, and our guide to Mounjaro pills explains why. Genuine prescription treatment follows a consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.

02 · Your options

What can you do instead?

If you want a tablet, ask a prescriber about the licensed GLP-1 tablets. See our Wegovy pill and Foundayo pages for current details and prices. If you are happy with a weekly injection, the Mounjaro pen is in stock across all six doses. For the wider picture, read when oral GLP-1 will be available.

03 · Licensed GLP-1 tablets

The GLP-1 tablets you can ask about

Two GLP-1 weight-loss tablets are now licensed in the UK: Wegovy tablets (oral semaglutide, made by Novo Nordisk), approved by the MHRA in June 2026, and Foundayo (orforglipron, made by Eli Lilly), approved in August 2026. They are different medicines from Mounjaro, with their own dosing, eligibility checks and trial results, and both are prescription-only.

Wegovy tablets are taken once a day on an empty stomach after fasting for at least 8 hours, swallowed whole with a sip of water (up to half a glass, about 120ml), and you then wait at least 30 minutes before eating, drinking or taking other tablets.20 In the OASIS 4 trial, adults taking semaglutide 25mg tablets for 64 weeks lost on average 13.6% of their body weight, compared with 2.2% on placebo.22

Foundayo can be taken at any time of day, with or without food and without water restrictions. In the ATTAIN-1 trial, people taking the highest dose for 72 weeks lost on average 12.4% of their body weight, compared with 0.9% on placebo.2123 Individual results vary.

04 · Tablet or injection

Tablet versus Mounjaro injection

No trial has compared Mounjaro directly with either tablet, so results from separate trials, with different people, durations and doses, should not be set against each other as if they were head to head. SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide.15

The practical differences matter as much as the averages. Wegovy tablets need a strict empty-stomach routine every morning, Foundayo has no food or water rules, and Mounjaro needs one injection a week. A prescriber will check which option suits your health, your other medicines and your routine.

For reference, in SURMOUNT-1 people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 20.9% of body weight on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 That is a separate trial, not a comparison with the tablets.

05 · Access and NHS

NHS access to Mounjaro

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. The primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.6 See when Mounjaro will be available on the NHS for more, or availability in the UK generally.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Where can I get oral tirzepatide?
You cannot get licensed oral tirzepatide anywhere in the UK, because tirzepatide is injection-only here. Products sold online as oral tirzepatide are not approved medicines. If you want a tablet, ask a prescriber about the licensed GLP-1 tablets, Wegovy tablets or Foundayo, which are prescription-only.
Will tirzepatide be available in pill form?
There is no licensed tablet form of Mounjaro: tirzepatide is injection-only in the UK. Eli Lilly's licensed GLP-1 tablet, Foundayo, contains a different medicine, orforglipron, so it is not a tirzepatide pill.
How much will orforglipron cost?
Foundayo (orforglipron) prices change, so see the Foundayo product page for current prices. Cost depends on the dose your prescriber chooses after your consultation.
Is oral tirzepatide as effective as the shot?
That cannot be answered, because no licensed oral tirzepatide exists and so there are no approved results to compare. Unregulated products carry no trial evidence. The licensed tablets have their own trial results, which should not be set against Mounjaro's as if head to head.
Is tirzepatide stronger than Ozempic?
SURMOUNT-5 is the trial that compared tirzepatide directly with injected semaglutide: adults on tirzepatide lost on average 20.2% of body weight over 72 weeks versus 13.7% on semaglutide 2.4mg (Wegovy).15 Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors, GIP and GLP-1, whereas semaglutide acts on one.15 Both are effective, licensed treatments; which suits you depends on your health profile, tolerance and prescriber advice, not the headline number alone. Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes only; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine.
What is the bad side of tirzepatide?
The most common side effects of Mounjaro, affecting more than 1 in 10 people, are nausea, diarrhoea, vomiting, constipation and abdominal discomfort. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Discuss any new or worrying symptoms with your prescriber, and report side effects through the Yellow Card scheme.19
When will oral GLP-1 be available in the UK?
It already is. Wegovy tablets and Foundayo are both licensed in the UK and prescription-only. Our guide to generic GLP-1 availability covers what may come later, though no date can be promised.
