In this guide

01 · The short answer

Pancreatitis rates on GLP-1 medicines

The honest answer to "what percentage get pancreatitis on a GLP-1" is that it depends on which medicine, which patients and how the study was run. Figures you may see online come from very different sources, so a single number would mislead.

For Mounjaro, the UK patient leaflet lists acute pancreatitis as uncommon, which means up to 1 in 100 people. It is a recognised serious side effect to watch for.13

If you want a medicine-specific answer, read our guides on pancreatitis rates among Mounjaro users and the wider percentages across GLP-1 users.

02 · What matters for you

What this means if you're considering treatment

The useful question is not the population percentage but whether you are in a group that needs extra care. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis.1

SituationWhat the prescribing information says
You have had pancreatitis beforeTell your prescriber. They will take extra care or may recommend against treatment.1
You have gallbladder problemsAlso flagged for extra care, so share it in your consultation.1
You develop severe, persistent stomach pain, possibly spreading to the backSeek immediate medical help. It may be pancreatitis.13
You have no relevant history and feel wellTake treatment as prescribed and know the warning signs.

Our free consultation asks about exactly these points, and every request is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, not a scoring script. If you are ready, you can start your free consultation.

03 · Why does it happen?

Who needs more caution with GLP-1s?

There is no proven way to prevent pancreatitis while taking Mounjaro.

What the prescribing information does establish is who warrants more caution: people with a history of pancreatitis, and people with gallbladder problems or severe gut or digestive disease.1 That is why the consultation covers your full medical history and medicine list.

Our page on gallstones on Mounjaro covers the gallbladder side.

04 · Warning signs

Warning signs and what to do

Severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting, could be pancreatitis: stop using Mounjaro and get medical help straight away.

Don't wait to see whether it settles and don't take another dose before you have been assessed. Call 999 or go to A&E if the pain is severe, and tell them you are on a GLP-1 medicine.

You can also report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19 Pain in the upper right of the abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes could be a gallbladder problem: get medical help straight away. Signs of a severe allergic reaction, such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing, also need immediate medical help.

05 · Reducing your risk

What you can do before and during treatment

The most important step is full disclosure. Tell the prescriber about any past pancreatitis, gallbladder disease and every medicine you take.1

Day to day, smaller, slower meals work better because the stomach empties more slowly.1 That is general comfort advice. There is no proven way to prevent pancreatitis or gallbladder problems while taking Mounjaro.

Our guides on how to lower your risk of pancreatitis on GLP-1s and our Mounjaro pancreatitis explainer cover this in more detail.

06 · Who shouldn't take it

Who should not take Mounjaro

Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, or during pregnancy or while trying to conceive.1 Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. If you become pregnant during treatment, stop the medicine and tell your prescriber promptly.

Extra care, or a recommendation against treatment, applies if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy or gallbladder problems.1 Tell your prescriber about any of these.

Mounjaro is licensed for adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or 27 to 30 with a weight-related condition, and is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased activity.1 Our guide to pancreatitis on Mounjaro explains how this is assessed.

07 · How ordering works

How ordering works

We are a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (registration 9012878), and our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply as genuine KwikPens.

  • Free consultation: a short health questionnaire, with no charge and no obligation.
  • Prescriber review: a GPhC-registered prescriber reviews your answers. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full.
  • Dispatch and delivery: same-day dispatch when ordered by 3pm, then free next-day tracked delivery in discreet, temperature-controlled packaging.

Ongoing monthly reviews are included, and repeat orders re-check suitability. Ready to compare options? See how to buy Mounjaro in the UK. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, and individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
What percentage of people on GLP-1 get pancreatitis?
There is no single reliable percentage. The prescribing information describes pancreatitis as an uncommon but serious side effect that needs urgent attention. Your prescriber can discuss your personal risk.
Why do people get pancreatitis on GLP-1 medicines?
There is no proven reason for any individual case, and no proven way to prevent pancreatitis. People with a history of pancreatitis or gallbladder problems need extra prescriber care. Disclosing your full medical history in the consultation is the most useful step you can take.
Can Ozempic cause pancreatitis?
Ozempic is semaglutide licensed for type 2 diabetes only; it is not a UK weight-loss medicine. Pancreatitis is a recognised serious side effect to watch for with Mounjaro. For Ozempic itself, check its patient leaflet and speak to your prescriber or pharmacist.
What are the symptoms of pancreatitis on a GLP-1?
The warning sign is severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting: stop using Mounjaro and get medical help straight away. Don't take another dose until you have been assessed, and tell clinicians which medicine you use.
Can pancreatitis go away on its own?
Don't assume it will. Severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to the back could be pancreatitis: get medical help straight away. A clinician must assess it. Call 999 or go to A&E if the pain is severe.
Can I take Mounjaro if I've had pancreatitis before?
Possibly not. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis. Be completely open about this in your consultation. Every request is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, and unsuitable orders are refunded automatically.
How do I report a suspected side effect?
Use the MHRA Yellow Card scheme, which accepts reports from patients as well as healthcare professionals. Seek medical help first if symptoms are severe. Also tell your prescriber, so your treatment can be reviewed. Our prescribing team offers side-effect support alongside ongoing monthly reviews.
