What 40 clicks actually means

Forty clicks has no official meaning. The KwikPen is set by turning the dose knob until the correct dose shows in the window, and you confirm the dose by that number, never by counting clicks.¹³ Online charts that turn clicks into milligrams are not from the manufacturer, and we do not endorse them.

Each pen contains four weekly doses, and it will not let you dial past the medicine left inside. If the window will not turn to a full dose, the pen does not contain enough for one and should not be used for a partial injection.¹³

What to do if you want a different dose

If you are thinking about 40 clicks because 5mg feels too strong or you want something between strengths, talk to your prescriber. Taking smaller or more spread-out doses than the pen is designed to deliver is not licensed, and it means unknown dosing accuracy and no safety data.¹

03 · Using the pen correctly

How to use the KwikPen correctly

Mounjaro is injected under the skin once a week, on the same day each week, at any time of day, with or without food.¹ Licensed sites are the stomach area (at least 5cm from the belly button), the front of the thigh, or the back of the upper arm if someone else gives the injection. Rotate the site with each dose.

04 · Checking what is left

Checking how much is left in a pen

The pen will not dial past what remains, so a window that will not reach a full dose tells you the pen is finished for injecting.¹³ Do not combine leftovers from two pens. Our page on how much is left in a pen covers this further.

05 · Storage and missed doses

Storage and missed doses

Keep pens in a fridge at 2–8°C and never freeze them. Once in use, a pen can be kept out of the fridge at a temperature not above 30°C for up to 30 days after first use, and must then be thrown away. Do not use a pen that has been above 30°C or has been frozen. Keep the cap on to protect it from light.¹³

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can within 4 days (96 hours) of the scheduled time. After more than 4 days, skip it and take the next on your usual day, and never take two doses within 3 days of each other.¹
