Mounjaro 5mg Weight Loss Results (October 2026)

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 That is a long-term average, not a weekly rate. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Trial averages on 5mg were measured over 72 weeks, so think in months rather than days.
  • The 2.5mg starter weeks are for adjustment; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward.
  • Weight loss is not linear: plateaus of a few weeks are normal and expected.
  • Higher is not automatically better; many people settle at 5mg, and your prescriber guides the pace.
  • Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and more activity.
In this guide

01 · Results

What weight loss should you expect on 5mg?

Expect gradual loss that accumulates over months, with the trial average as a long-term reference rather than a target. At 72 weeks, 85% of participants on 5mg, 89% on 10mg and 91% on 15mg had lost at least 5% of their body weight.2

These are trial averages. Individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.2 For a wider view, see our overview of Mounjaro weight loss results, or our guide to what 5mg looks like in practice.

There is no reliable loss per week on 5mg. The trial reported averages over 72 weeks, not a steady weekly figure. Judge progress by the trend across several weigh-ins.

02 · Decision

Is 5mg enough, or should you step up?

5mg can be enough, and your prescriber decides with you. Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg — higher is not automatically better, and your prescriber will guide the right pace.1

If progress is slow, ask about a step-up rather than adjusting doses yourself. The licensed ladder rises only after at least 4 weeks on a dose. Our 5mg treatment page covers ordering in detail.

03 · Pace and early weeks

Pace of results in the early weeks

Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest; most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.1

Some people notice appetite change and early loss in week one, others feel little until a higher dose. Both are normal. Early loss includes water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle.

Early on, average losses are modest compared with the headline figures. In the main trial, average weight loss built month by month, with the full averages measured at 72 weeks. Slower early progress does not predict failure. Our pages on the first week and results after a couple of months give more context.

04 · Plateaus and speeding up

Plateaus and how to get more from 5mg

Weight loss on Mounjaro is not linear, and plateaus of a few weeks are normal as the body adapts to a lower weight. Within the licence, the responses are practical.

  • Review food intake honestly, as portions drift back up.
  • Protect protein and activity.
  • Check the basics, such as sleep and alcohol.
  • Discuss with your prescriber whether a dose step-up is appropriate if you are not yet at maximum.

A plateau is not a reason to double doses or add unlicensed products.

Your prescriber will also review your response. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.1

05 · Beyond the scales

Health changes beyond the scales

Weight is only one outcome. In trials, weight loss on tirzepatide came with average improvements in waist size, blood pressure, cholesterol and blood-sugar measures, and most participants with prediabetes returned to normal blood-sugar levels.2

These are trial-average secondary outcomes, not promises. They explain why prescribers talk about weight management as health management rather than appearance. For other routes, compare weight loss injection results or see our weight loss clinic.

Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Do you lose more weight on 5mg Mounjaro than on 2.5mg?
Progress is usually greater on 5mg. The 2.5mg starting dose is about letting your body adjust, not about weight loss itself, and losses on it are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month, though some people do notice early appetite change on 2.5mg.
What should I expect on 5mg Mounjaro?
Expect gradual loss that builds over months. Mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the days after each injection are the commonest early effects and usually settle. Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of the skin or eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. Plateaus of a few weeks are normal, so judge progress by trend rather than individual weigh-ins.
How much weight loss per week on Mounjaro 5mg?
There is no reliable weekly figure. The trial reported average loss over 72 weeks, and real progress is uneven, with early water weight and plateaus along the way. Track the trend over several weeks and ask your prescriber to review your progress rather than chasing a weekly number.
How can I speed up weight loss on Mounjaro?
Stay within the licence: review portions honestly, protect protein and activity, and check sleep and alcohol. Ask your prescriber whether a dose step-up is appropriate if you are not at maximum.
Is 5mg a good maintenance dose?
For many people, yes. Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better. In the main trial, most people on 5mg lost at least 5% of their body weight at 72 weeks. Your prescriber guides the right dose for you.
What are the first signs I am losing weight?
Feeling full sooner and less hungry between meals are often the first signs. Early scale changes include water weight, so the trend over weeks matters more than any single weigh-in. Some people feel little until a higher dose, which is also normal.
