Is Eli Lilly the Only Manufacturer of Mounjaro? (October 2026)

Yes, Eli Lilly is the manufacturer of Mounjaro. Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injection made by Eli Lilly and licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes.1 Any pen sold as "tirzepatide" that does not come through a regulated supply chain is not the licensed medicine.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • Mounjaro is a brand owned and made by Eli Lilly; the UK licence and product information describe Lilly's own KwikPen.
  • Tirzepatide is the active ingredient, but a product labelled "tirzepatide" is not automatically Mounjaro or a licensed UK medicine.
  • Imitation and unregulated pens are a real safety concern; the MHRA publishes counterfeit alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme.
  • We supply genuine Mounjaro KwikPens through official LillyDirect supply, with every order reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber.
  • Corporate trivia such as Lilly's rank or nationality does not change the safety question: where your pen came from.
In this guide

01 · The short answer

Which company manufactures Mounjaro?

Eli Lilly manufactures Mounjaro. The medicine is described in the UK product information as a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly, supplied as a pre-filled multi-dose KwikPen in six strengths from 2.5mg to 15mg.1 The leaflet inside every genuine box names the same company.13

02 · The nuance

Is Eli Lilly the only manufacturer of tirzepatide?

For the licensed medicine you can buy from a UK pharmacy, Mounjaro is the product, and Lilly makes it.

Tirzepatide is a substance name, not a brand.

Source of a "tirzepatide" productIs it licensed Mounjaro? What to know
Mounjaro KwikPen via a UK-registered pharmacyYesMade by Eli Lilly, supplied on prescription after a clinical review.
NHS prescriptionYesThe same Mounjaro; access is being phased in over several years.4
Vials, "research peptides" or kits sold onlineNoNot the licensed medicine; no assurance of contents, sterility or dose.
Custom-mixed versions from third partiesNoNot Mounjaro, not the KwikPen described in the UK product information.
Pens with no prescription requiredTreat as unsafeA licensed prescription medicine should never be supplied without a consultation or prescription.

So Lilly is the manufacturer of Mounjaro. For you, a product that is not the licensed pen is simply not Mounjaro.

03 · Your next step

What should you do with this information?

Check the source before you check the price. If you are considering treatment, our weight loss clinic explains how a prescriber-led programme works, and the Mounjaro pen page shows live prices and the free consultation. Genuine supply is also covered in our guide to authentic Mounjaro direct from Eli Lilly.

04 · Brand versus ingredient

Mounjaro versus tirzepatide: brand and ingredient

Mounjaro is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly.1 Tirzepatide is the active substance; Mounjaro is the finished, licensed product with a defined pen, strengths, leaflet and safety information.

A listing that says "tirzepatide" tells you an ingredient is claimed. It does not tell you who made it, how it was stored, or whether the dose on the label is the dose in the device.

In the UK, Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. It comes as a pre-filled multi-dose pen (KwikPen) in six strengths: 2.5mg, 5mg, 7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg and 15mg.1 Our page on the authentic Mounjaro KwikPen shows what the genuine device looks like.

05 · Why the manufacturer matters

Why the manufacturer matters for safety

The manufacturer matters because a licensed medicine comes with tested quality, a patient information leaflet and a route to report problems. An unregulated product comes with none of these.

The UK product information and leaflet set out the dosing, storage and side-effect advice for the Lilly pen.113 It cannot be transferred to a vial, a kit or a mixed preparation of unknown origin, however similar the name.

The MHRA publishes counterfeit medicine alerts and runs the Yellow Card scheme for reporting suspected side effects and suspect products.7 Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you have already used something you are unsure about, tell your prescriber or GP and consider a Yellow Card report.19

Our overview of the Eli Lilly Mounjaro trial programme explains where the clinical evidence for the genuine product comes from.

06 · Spotting imitation pens

How to avoid imitation Mounjaro

The most reliable protection is to buy only from a UK-registered pharmacy that supplies on prescription. These checks take minutes.

  • Check the register. A UK pharmacy should appear on the GPhC public register.12 Ours is GPhC 9012878.
  • Expect a consultation. A seller offering to supply without a consultation or prescription is not operating like a pharmacy.
  • Be wary of kits and vials. Genuine Mounjaro is a pre-filled KwikPen, not a powder you mix yourself.
  • Distrust dramatic claims. Anyone making dramatic weight-loss claims or promising specific results is selling, not prescribing.
  • Look for the leaflet. A genuine box includes the patient information leaflet for the licensed product.13
  • Report concerns. Suspect products and side effects can be reported through the MHRA.7

A very low price on its own is not proof of anything either way, but a price that sits far below everything else is a reason to ask more questions about the source.

07 · How we source Mounjaro

How EverydayMeds sources Mounjaro

EverydayMeds is a GPhC-registered UK online pharmacy (registration 9012878), and our Mounjaro comes through official LillyDirect supply: direct from Eli Lilly's UK distribution, as genuine KwikPens. All six doses are in stock.

Every order starts with a free online consultation, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber rather than a scoring script. Payment is taken when you place the order; if the prescriber decides the treatment is not suitable, the order is refunded automatically in full. Repeat orders re-check suitability, and there is no auto-shipping.

Delivery is free next-day, tracked, in temperature-controlled packaging, with same-day dispatch when you order by 3pm. Saturday delivery is £14.99. The Eli Lilly Mounjaro price page has live figures. As a guide, your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40 (standard price £169.99), and every later order is £25 off the standard price. Prices checked 11 October 2026.

08 · Lilly's other medicines

What other brands are under Eli Lilly?

Eli Lilly is a large, long-established pharmaceutical company with many products, but only a few are relevant to weight management.

Mounjaro is the injectable. Lilly also developed an oral medicine, orforglipron, supplied in the UK as Foundayo tablets and described in its own product information.21 It is a different medicine from Mounjaro, with its own dosing and eligibility checks, not a tablet version of Mounjaro. Our guide to Eli Lilly's weight-loss pill explains what it is, and the page on the Eli Lilly Mounjaro pill clears up the common confusion between the two.

If you want to know which route suits you, a prescriber can talk it through.

09 · What Mounjaro does

What the genuine medicine does

Tirzepatide is the first treatment of its kind to activate two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1.1 Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin. In practice, most people feel fuller sooner and less hungry between meals, which supports a reduced-calorie diet.

In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages, and individual results vary. Treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

These trial results say nothing about a product of unknown origin.

10 · NHS and private access

NHS and private routes use the same medicine

Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first (initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions).46

Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. Whichever route you take, the pen is the same Lilly product. The right private route is a registered pharmacy with a prescriber review, not an unverified online listing.

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. It is used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. Individual results vary. This page is information, not a substitute for medical advice.

11 · Company trivia answered

Is Eli Lilly a British company?

Eli Lilly is an American company, not a British one. Its own statement on the UK Mounjaro list price describes America's role in biopharmaceutical innovation.10 Mounjaro is nonetheless supplied to UK pharmacies through Lilly's UK distribution.

For patients, the company's nationality does not change the practical test: is the pen a licensed Mounjaro KwikPen supplied by a registered pharmacy on prescription?

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Which company manufactures Mounjaro?
Eli Lilly manufactures Mounjaro. It is the brand name for tirzepatide, a once-weekly injectable prescription medicine made by Eli Lilly and supplied as a pre-filled KwikPen. In the UK it is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes. Our Mounjaro manufacturer guide covers the supply chain in more detail.
Is Eli Lilly the only manufacturer of tirzepatide?
Eli Lilly makes the licensed medicine, Mounjaro. Beyond that, "tirzepatide" is a substance name that some sellers attach to products that are not Mounjaro and are not licensed UK medicines. If it is not a genuine Lilly KwikPen supplied on prescription, treat it as unsafe.
Are compounded or research-peptide versions the same as Mounjaro?
No. They are not the licensed Mounjaro KwikPen and are not covered by its UK product information or leaflet, so the dosing and safety guidance for Mounjaro does not transfer to them. The MHRA runs counterfeit alerts and the Yellow Card scheme. If you have used one, tell your prescriber or GP.
What brands are under Eli Lilly?
Eli Lilly has many products, but the ones relevant here are Mounjaro, the weekly injection, and Foundayo (orforglipron), an oral tablet with its own product information. They are different medicines, each with its own product information. See our guide to Eli Lilly's weight-loss pill for what Foundayo is.
Is Eli Lilly a British company?
No, Eli Lilly is an American company. Its own statement on the UK price of Mounjaro frames its work in terms of America's role in biopharmaceutical innovation. Mounjaro still reaches the UK through Lilly's UK distribution, which is the route our registered pharmacy uses for genuine KwikPens.
Is Eli Lilly the biggest or richest pharmaceutical company in the world?
There is no single answer, because it depends on whether you measure sales, market value or research spending. For patients, the safer test is where your pen came from.
How do I know my Mounjaro is genuine?
Buy from a pharmacy listed on the GPhC public register, expect a consultation before supply, and look for a pre-filled KwikPen with the patient information leaflet. We supply genuine Mounjaro through official LillyDirect supply, reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Start at our Mounjaro pen page for live prices and the free consultation.
