A quick overview
What to know
before you start.
-
A starter 2.5mg Mounjaro pen is £169.99 per month at the standard price; your first order is £129.99 with code FIRST40.
-
Across the UK pharmacies we track, Mounjaro pens run from £143.96 to £339.00 per month depending on dose and provider.
-
Price rises with dose, so the cheapest pen is not always the cheapest treatment: if you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices.
-
NHS access is being phased in over several years; private treatment is the route many people use in the meantime.

01 · Price overview
What GLP-1 injections cost in the UK
GLP-1 injection prices in the UK are set by each private provider, and they differ by drug, by dose and by pharmacy. Our own index of the UK pharmacies we track (checked 12 October 2026) shows Mounjaro pens from £143.96 to £339.00 per month across all doses and providers. Every one of those figures is for one pen, which is four weekly injections.
The starting pen is where most people begin, and the spread there is narrower than across the whole range. The 2.5mg starter pen runs from £143.96 to £179.99 across the pharmacies we track. For the same dose, the gap between the smallest and largest provider differs from £27 to £41. Boots' Mounjaro dose prices run from £179.00 to £339.00.
At EverydayMeds, the Mounjaro pen costs £169.99 per month at the 2.5mg starting dose at the standard price. Your first 2.5mg pen costs £129.99 with code FIRST40. Every later order is £25 off the standard price (code DOSE25). All six doses are in stock.
02 · Compare
Cheapest GLP-1 options compared
| Route | How often | Cost picture | Main catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mounjaro (tirzepatide) pen, private | Once weekly, four doses per pen | £169.99 at 2.5mg up to £329.99 at 15mg per month, standard prices | Price rises with dose |
| Wegovy (semaglutide) pen, private | Once weekly | First order £99.99 for a new customer (a first Mounjaro 2.5mg order is £129.99); see the Wegovy pen page for current doses | Five-step ladder to 2.4mg |
| Liraglutide (Saxenda and similar) | Daily injection | Figures vary; your prescriber can advise | Daily rather than weekly |
| NHS prescription | Depends on the medicine | The standard NHS charge is £9.90 per item in England, where prescriptions are charged | Strict, phased eligibility |
| Over-the-counter supplements marketed as natural alternatives | Not standardised | Low-cost supplement, no clinical oversight | Not GLP-1 medicines |
A low monthly price does not tell you which option is the better value. A low monthly figure for a medicine you stop after two months, or a pen at a dose that does not suit you, is not a saving.
03 · Plan the cost
The true cost: titration, maintenance and the first year
If you step up after 4 weeks on each dose, your first four pens (2.5mg to 10mg) cost £959.96 at standard prices. A new customer's first order is £40 less and every later order £25 less, so your real figure is lower than that headline.
For a full first year (13 pens), the total is £2,711.88 if you stay on 5mg after your 2.5mg starting pen, up to £3,599.88 if you step up through every dose to 15mg. Those are standard prices before discounts. If you settle at 7.5mg, 10mg or 12.5mg, the monthly prices are £279.99, £290.99 and £319.99 respectively.
Weekly equivalents help if you budget that way: 2.5mg works out at £42.50 per week, 5mg at £54.75, 7.5mg at £70.00, 10mg at £72.75, 12.5mg at £80.00 and 15mg at £82.50. Our guides on the lowest monthly cost of weight loss injections and the lowest-priced single pen break this down further, and bundle deals cover buying more than one pen.
If you are moving to us from another provider at a higher dose, the new-customer discount still applies. Switching at 15mg? Your first order is £289.99.
04 · Mounjaro dose ladder
How the dose ladder shapes what you pay
Everyone starts Mounjaro on 2.5mg once a week, and this starting dose is about letting your body adjust rather than weight loss itself.1 After at least 4 weeks the dose increases to 5mg. It can then step up by 2.5mg at a minimum of 4-week intervals (7.5mg, 10mg, 12.5mg) up to a maximum of 15mg weekly, depending on how you respond and tolerate it.1
For cost planning, that means your spend is not fixed. It climbs as you move up, and it stops climbing when you reach the dose that works for you. Many people settle at a maintenance dose of 5mg, 10mg or 15mg, and higher is not automatically better.1 Your prescriber guides the pace, so the sensible budget is your likely maintenance dose, not the 2.5mg starter price.
In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2
05 · Mounjaro or semaglutide
Mounjaro or semaglutide: which is better value?
Neither is automatically better value, because price is only one side of the question and the right medicine depends on your health and your prescriber's assessment. Both are licensed, once-weekly injections for weight management.
Tirzepatide activates two gut-hormone receptors at once, GIP and GLP-1, which together help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties and improve how the body responds to insulin.1 This dual action is what distinguishes Mounjaro from single-action GLP-1 medicines such as semaglutide (Wegovy and Ozempic).1
Wegovy pens come as 0.25mg, 0.5mg, 1mg, 1.7mg and 2.4mg once weekly. The dose steps up after at least 4 weeks and reaches the 2.4mg maintenance dose from week 17, which is the licensed maintenance dose for weight management.18
For cost, compare like with like. A new customer's first Wegovy pen is £99.99 (a first-order price), and our guide to Wegovy private prescription prices covers each dose.
If you are asking which medicine will suit you, that is for the prescriber at consultation. Ask your prescriber about both.
06 · NHS versus private
NHS or private: the honest picture
Mounjaro is available on the NHS, but access is being phased in over several years.5 NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition.4 The NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first, initially BMI 40+ with four or more qualifying conditions.6
Full rollout is expected to take years, which is why many people who meet the licensed criteria choose regulated private treatment rather than waiting. If you think you fall into an NHS group, speak to your GP first. Where NHS prescriptions are charged in England, the standard charge is £9.90 per item, though whether a given GLP-1 treatment is available that way depends on local services.
NHS access to Wegovy runs through specialist weight-management services; ask your GP.
Private treatment is a cost, but it also gives you a defined start date and the ability to choose your provider. Our guide to how GLP-1 injection prescriptions work explains what a private prescription involves.
07 · Savings that cost you
False savings: what not to do to cut the cost
Trying to save money on GLP-1 injections by changing how you use the pen is unsafe, and the cheapest-looking route can be the most expensive in the end.
Mounjaro is licensed as a once-weekly medicine, and its blood levels are designed around a 7-day cycle. Talk to your clinical team rather than self-adjusting.
Each KwikPen is designed and licensed to deliver exactly four weekly doses. Use the pen as designed, then dispose of it.
Buying from unverified sellers. The MHRA has seized thousands of fake weight-loss pens in the UK and has issued alerts after falsified Mounjaro pens were identified.7 Fake pens have caused hospitalisations, and some contained insulin rather than tirzepatide.7 Only buy from a pharmacy you can verify on the GPhC register, never from social media, beauty salons or unverified websites. Genuine treatment always involves a prescription and a clinical consultation.7 Be wary of anyone offering to supply without a consultation or prescription.
A genuine pen comes from a registered pharmacy with a batch number and expiry date, arrives cold-chain packaged, and the solution inside is clear and colourless.13 Do not use a pen that has been frozen, looks cloudy or discoloured, has particles in it, is past its expiry, has been above 30°C, or has been out of the fridge for more than 30 days in use. If supply or packaging ever seems wrong, check the pharmacy on the GPhC register and contact the pharmacy before injecting.
08 · Why list prices moved
Why Mounjaro prices rose in 2025
Eli Lilly announced a UK list-price increase for Mounjaro on 14 August 2025, effective 1 September 2025.
Pharmacy sell prices vary because of confidential discounts, which is why the same pen can have different prices at different pharmacies. That is why we publish a dated price index for the UK pharmacies we track, checked 12 October 2026. EverydayMeds prices are shown live and were last checked 12 October 2026.
Any article quoting a single low "typical" figure without a date is describing a moment, not a stable price. Check the date before you compare. For code-based offers, see our Mounjaro discount code page.
09 · Is it suitable for you
Who it is for, and how fast to expect results
Price matters only if the medicine is right for you. Mounjaro is licensed for weight management in adults with a BMI of 30 or above, or a BMI between 27 and 30 with at least one weight-related condition such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, obstructive sleep apnoea, cardiovascular disease, prediabetes or type 2 diabetes.1 It must be used alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity. A prescriber assesses your BMI, medical history and current medicines before deciding whether it is suitable.
Mounjaro is not suitable for everyone. You should not take it if you are allergic to tirzepatide or any of its ingredients, and it should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive. Mounjaro must not be used during pregnancy, and it should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. Your prescriber will take extra care, or may recommend against treatment, if you have a history of pancreatitis, severe gut or digestive disease, diabetic retinopathy, or gallbladder problems. Tell them about every medicine you take and every condition you have.
Weight loss on Mounjaro is gradual by design. The first weeks on 2.5mg are an adjustment phase and losses are usually modest. Most measurable progress builds from 5mg onward, month by month.2 Trials measured results at 72 weeks, so think in months, not days. If you have lost less than 5% of your starting weight after 6 months on the highest dose you can tolerate, your prescriber will discuss whether continuing or stopping is right for you.
That review matters for budgeting: a prescriber-led plan helps you avoid paying for months of treatment that is not working for you. Mounjaro (tirzepatide) is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Individual results vary.
The commonest early side effects are mild nausea, altered appetite and tiredness in the first days after each injection, and they usually settle. Report any suspected side effect through the MHRA Yellow Card scheme.19
10 · Serious side effects
Serious side effects: when to get help straight away
Serious side effects are uncommon but need urgent attention. Seek immediate medical help for: severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing. If you take insulin or a sulfonylurea alongside Mounjaro, watch for low blood sugar (shakiness, sweating, confusion) — your prescriber may need to adjust those medicines.1
