GLP-1 and Adenomyosis: What the Evidence Says (October 2026)

No, GLP-1 medicines are not licensed to treat adenomyosis. Mounjaro is licensed in the UK for weight management and type 2 diabetes.1 If you have adenomyosis and also want weight support, that is a separate decision to make with a prescriber and your gynaecology team.

A quick overview

What to know
before you start.

  • GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 medicines are licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not for adenomyosis.
  • Online posts about less pain or bloating are not clinical evidence.
  • Weight treatment can be considered on its own merits if you meet the licensed criteria.
  • Tell your gynaecologist and prescriber about every medicine you take, and report new symptoms via Yellow Card.
  • Adenomyosis symptoms need proper assessment; a weight-loss medicine is not a substitute for that.
In this guide

01 · The core answer

Can a GLP-1 help with adenomyosis?

Tirzepatide, the active ingredient in Mounjaro, is licensed for weight management in adults and for type 2 diabetes.1 Adenomyosis is not on that list.

Some summaries suggest these drugs may ease pelvic symptoms through lower inflammation. There is no trial showing that, so it should not be treated as fact. Personal accounts from online communities are not evidence of an effect on the condition, and results differ from person to person.

02 · What to do next

The decision you are actually facing

The useful question is whether you would qualify for weight treatment in its own right. If so, it is a decision about weight, not about adenomyosis. Our guide to adenomyosis and Mounjaro goes into that overlap in more detail.

If you meet the licensed criteria, a free consultation is reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber, who will ask about your gynaecological history. You can see the Mounjaro pen and its prices. You can also read about our wider weight loss clinic.

03 · How GLP-1 medicines work

How GLP-1 medicines work

Tirzepatide activates two natural gut-hormone receptors at once: GIP and GLP-1. Together these help regulate appetite, slow how quickly the stomach empties, and improve the way the body responds to insulin.1

For more technical detail, see the note on AMPK and GLP-1.

04 · Weight and adenomyosis

Weight and adenomyosis

People with adenomyosis often ask whether weight is harder to manage. In the SURMOUNT-1 trial of 2,539 adults, people taking tirzepatide alongside diet and exercise lost on average 15% of their body weight on 5mg, 19.5% on 10mg and 20.9% on 15mg over 72 weeks, compared with 3.1% with lifestyle changes alone.2 These are trial averages — individual results vary, and treatment works alongside a reduced-calorie diet and increased physical activity, not instead of them.

Weight loss in itself is not a treatment for adenomyosis, and you should not expect it to shrink the womb or remove pain.

05 · Safety and new symptoms

Safety and reporting symptoms

Mounjaro is a prescription-only medicine, supplied only after an online consultation reviewed by a GPhC-registered prescriber. Tell the prescriber about your condition and any hormonal or pain treatment you use.

If your pelvic symptoms change after starting any medicine, speak to your prescriber or doctor. You can also report a suspected side effect through the Yellow Card scheme.19 A change in symptoms is not a proven effect or a proven benefit of the medicine. Seek immediate medical help for severe, persistent stomach pain that may spread to your back, with or without vomiting (possible pancreatitis); pain in the upper right abdomen, fever or yellowing of skin/eyes (possible gallbladder problems); or signs of a severe allergic reaction such as swelling of the face or throat and difficulty breathing.

06 · Reading online claims

How to read online claims

Forum posts and social media threads are where most of this topic lives. They describe individual experiences, not controlled evidence. Other terms you may see, such as GLP-1 agonists, describe a drug class, not a proven use in gynaecology.

Be wary of anyone offering to supply a GLP-1 medicine without a consultation or prescription, or promising specific results for pelvic pain.

How ordering works

How ordering works at EverydayMeds

Three steps, with our pharmacy team alongside you.

  1. EverydayMeds online consultation on a mobile phone

    Step 1: Online consultation — 5–10 minutes

Complete a confidential health questionnaire covering BMI, medical history and current medication. No payment is taken until you're approved.

  2. A clinician ready to review an online consultation

Step 2: Prescriber review — usually same day

A UK registered prescriber checks your suitability against the licensed criteria (BMI ≥30, or ≥27 with a weight-related condition) and contraindications, and confirms your starting dose.

  3. An EverydayMeds delivery box

    Step 3: Next-day tracked delivery

Dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy in temperature-controlled packaging with needles and a sharps bin included. Orders approved by 3pm for next-day tracked delivery.

Start your free consultation

Prescription and dispatch follow clinical approval. Confirm current delivery options when ordering.

Afterwards you're not on your own: dose-change reviews are built in before each step up, our pharmacist team is available for side-effect questions, and repeat orders re-check suitability rather than auto-shipping.

Your questions, answered

Mounjaro price UK — frequently asked questions

Answers to common questions about Mounjaro prices, NHS access and ongoing treatment.

Ask our pharmacy team
Can a GLP-1 help with adenomyosis?
GLP-1 and GIP/GLP-1 medicines are licensed for weight management and type 2 diabetes, not adenomyosis. Online accounts of reduced pain are individual experiences, not clinical proof. Speak to your gynaecologist about treatments aimed at the condition itself.
Is it hard to lose weight with adenomyosis?
If weight is a concern, a prescriber can assess whether you meet the licensed criteria for treatment, which include BMI thresholds of 27 or 30 depending on circumstances, alongside diet and activity changes.
What hormone makes adenomyosis worse?
That is a question for your gynaecologist. Hormonal questions about adenomyosis need an individual assessment, and the right options depend on your symptoms, age and plans for pregnancy.
What triggers an adenomyosis flare up?
Adenomyosis symptoms need individual assessment by your GP or gynaecologist. Keep a symptom diary and share it with your GP or gynaecologist, who can look for patterns specific to you.
How can I shrink my uterus from adenomyosis?
A weight-loss medicine is not a treatment for this. Options for adenomyosis should be discussed with a gynaecologist, who can assess you and explain what is suitable. Do not use a GLP-1 medicine in the hope of changing the womb.
Can I use Mounjaro if I have adenomyosis?
Having adenomyosis does not automatically rule out weight treatment, but your prescriber needs to know about it. Mounjaro is for adults who meet the licensed weight-management criteria. Mounjaro should not be used during pregnancy or while trying to conceive, and should be stopped at least one month before trying to conceive. It can also reduce how well oral contraceptive pills are absorbed: switch to a non-oral method, or add a barrier method, for 4 weeks after starting and for 4 weeks after each dose increase. See our adenomyosis and Mounjaro guide for the detail.
Is Mounjaro available on the NHS?
Yes, but access is being phased in over several years. NICE recommends it for adults with a BMI of at least 35 plus at least one weight-related condition, and the NHS primary-care rollout began in June 2025 with the highest-need groups first.
